News From the Studio, Episode 1215

It’s business as usual around here . . .

I guess I should say BUSY-ness as usual . . . it gets kinda hectic sometimes.

But I think Spring is finally trying to get here. I say trying, because last Saturday it was 85 degrees, and then it snowed on Monday. It just can’t make up its mind! But we have daffodils blooming:daffodils

I’m getting very close to moving into my new sewing room upstairs, but beginning next week, I’m traveling a lot, so I simply won’t have time to get that done until I land again. Maybe June? August? Who knows?

My daughter bought me these two handy rolling carts with drawers, and they’re still in the boxes — I need to get them assembled. And as you can see, I still need to cover my design wall. And paint the trim boards . . . and and and . . . carts

I’m thick into designing new quilts, pattern writing, sample making, teaching contracts, supply lists, vendor booth prep, class prep, contest entries, deadlines, and of course, sewing and quilting for others. No wonder I feel like I need a nap every day!notes

I’ll show you a little bit of what I’ve been working on . . .

Here’s the back side of a king-sized custom-quilted Sampler quilt that I just finished. I won’t be blogging about this quilt, and this is the only picture I have, but I thought the back looked really nice when I got it done.quiltback

I also quilted my local guild’s annual raffle quilt. The committee did a wonderful job of piecing the quilt. I quilted large feathers in the blue areas, a small stipple in the beige background areas, then outlined the stars and put a small design in the center of each one. I didn’t take any pictures of it, for some reason — and I stole this one from the committee:rafflequilt

I also quilted a raffle quilt for the New England Air Museum’s show called Flights and Fantasies. Theirs was a Baltimore Album style beauty:NEAirquilt

And I’ve done a few more projects for Dear Stella in preparation for International Quilt Market. I made two of the most darling shirts, and a very fun quilt, all from the book, Liberty Love, by Alexia Abegg. If you don’t have this book, you should get it. It has all sorts of fabulous projects.

Next week I’m off to the AQS Show in Paducah, KY. I’ll be there Thursday afternoon and all day Friday with my sister, viewing the quilts and shopping the vendors. If you see me, stop me and say hi! I’d love to meet you.

And before I go, I’m announcing the March prize winner in the 350 Blocks Project: It’s Sue H.! Congratulations, Sue! Everyone keep making those blocks.

And have a great Easter weekend — don’t eat too many chocolate eggs!

See you in Paducah–I hope! I’ll be the one carrying too many bags of fabric and not enough money.

  2. Cindy says:

Wow, considering what the back of the quilt looks like, I am sure the front is stunning. Are those the carts that Ikea has? We don’t have an Ikea here, so I have never been in one, but I like their carts!

Try to eat at Pork Peddlers in Paducah. Wonderful food and have a great time.

I was tired BEFORE I read your post. Now I’m exhausted. Your quilting is…well, WOW! I’ve got a long list too. I figure we’re making progress whenever we cross something off as complete…even if we add 2 more things to the bottom. Enjoy Paducah!

I have to get down there and help with moving some stuff upstairs. And thanks for the quilt you did for me last week right after the raffle quilt.

I can’t wait to see the new patterns and designs, etc. Everything you do is sooooooooooo wonderful.

  7. Paula says:

Looking forward to seeing some of your new projects at the Arrow Rock Quilt Camp in May!
