Haven’t done one of these posts in a while, so I thought I’d hop on today and show you some stuff I’ve been working on.

We’ll start with the one you’ve probably already seen, and you can read more about it HERE — my Allis Chalmers quilt!

And then I went to a sew day with some friends, and one of them handed me THIS quilt! I had to laugh. This quilt was made by a dear friend who passed away last January, so even tho it’s Farmall, I’m gonna treasure it!

This next one has been a long time in the making, and is still not even a complete top, but I DID get all the blocks completed, finally. It’s my Limerick quilt, started in a Quilt-Along by Amanda at A Crafty Fox several years ago. I managed to even read the book she recommended, but I knew my top wouldn’t be done in four weeks. Heck, it’s been four YEARS and it’s not even a top yet! Granted, I did make mine a lot bigger, but I wanted it to fit a bed, so there’s that. You can find all the info for this quilt and her link to buy the pattern HERE. I love everything she does, and her kits are so gorgeous!

Next up, I finished this tiny little wall quilt for a dear friend. At a retreat one time, she threw me her scraps, and if you know me, of course, I had to make something with them, so I made her this little quilt! It’s my own design, no pattern; hand embroidery, machine pieced, machine quilted.

Back in late August, I met up with some good friends, and we all went to visit KC Maker Studio in Mission, KS. It was my first trip there, and oh my, what a shop! I’ll be going back, I’m sure. I bought a few pieces of fabric for a quilt for that new grandbaby that’s coming soon, and then I wandered around the store holding this bundle for quite a while before putting it back and leaving it behind. Elly told me I’d be sorry, and she was right — I got home and wished I had it, so I turned right around and ordered it online. It’s “Pretty Things” by Denise Schmidt, and I haven’t yet decided what I’ll make with it, but I want it to be something epic, so I’m percolating ideas (because we all know I need to start something new right away!).

Speaking of starting something new, I always tell myself: “It’ll be a good way to use up lots of stash.” (Even tho each of those projects barely makes a dent in said stash.) But three years ago, I did the Laundry Basket Quilts Summer Mystery, and she’s doing it again, so I decided to jump in again. I did finish my top from the first mystery:

Although I don’t have it quilted yet. But that didn’t stop me from jumping in on this year’s mystery, and I have a good start. I’m a couple weeks behind already, but hoping to catch up before very many more installments come out. The installments come out weekly, so it’s a pretty fast pace for me, and I’ve had a lot of other stuff going on. Here’s my quilt center — it’s grown a bit since this photo, but I’ll show more later:

I also quilted (and bound) a couple of quilts for a customer that she made for her grandkids. I don’t have full photos of the quilts, but I did take some close-ups. This one is for the grandson. She chose the pantograph “Boxtrot” for it, and it’s the perfect choice!

Here’s the granddaughter one, with lots of butterflies. We thought a butterfly pantograph might be a bit of butterfly overload, so she chose “Moxie” for this one, which is one of my favorite pantos anyway, and it also came out wonderful.

I got commissioned to make three quilts for a vendor booth at Quilt Market (which just happened a week or so ago), so here they are, in no particular order . . . This first one is called “All Around”. The pattern is by Bound To Be Quilting, and might be getting difficult to find. I found my copy on Etsy, so you might do a search there first, if you’re interested.

The second one is made from the “Nightingale” pattern by Lo and Behold Stitchery. This pattern was really easy and fun to make. I really want to make it again for myself. It’ll use up so much stash! (teehee — but really, it is a great fat quarter or half-yard pattern, very fast to cut out and easy to sew.) You can get it, or any of Brittany’s other great patterns, HERE.

The third one is called “Pocket Full of Posies”, and when I first saw the pattern, I wasn’t in love with it, but once I finished the quilt, I really like it. Might be tempted to make this one again, too. I also found this pattern on Etsy, so if you want this one, just do a search. It’s a digital download, so you can have it instantly.

And finally, I’m hosting a mystery quilt for the Hands of Friendship Quilt Guild in Kirksville, MO, and we just got it kicked off a week ago. I’m making mine right along with them, and here’s my fabric pull for it. If you want in on that, you can join their guild! You’re not behind yet!

I think that’s it for now. I do have another quilt to show you, but I need to get pictures of it, so I’ll be back again with that a bit later on.

One of the things that’s been keeping me busy is this boy . . .

He’s been having toe troubles for a couple years now. First, had to have one front toe amputated, then a back one, and now a third toe on the same back foot had to be amputated a week ago. We can’t get him to leave his toes alone, so while it heals, we have to mildly sedate him, and keep a constant eye on him (and I do mean constant, as in: he cannot be left unsupervised for even 5 minutes). I feel so bad keeping him drugged up, but this has consumed his life for so long, we had to take drastic measures. Still unsure as to whether this will be the end of the toe saga, but for right now, we’re just waiting for it to heal, for the stitches to come out, and to see what happens after that. So send up some prayers for Tucker and his toes (and our sanity), if you can!

Poor pupster! I hope Tucker stops the toe nibbling this time. Lots of lovely quilts too. Gosh you have been so busy!

  2. Marilyn Holder says:

Oh you are a busy bee and I love the fabrics you have chosen.
I feel bad because I have not kept up with blocks a month this year and the reason is that the blocks are small–3 to 4 inches each. If that’s ok, I will count them and record for October; it will be a catchup from the whole year.

Love the scrappy green and neutral quilt. I tried to find information about the Hands of Friendship Quilt Guild in Kirksville, MO to no avail. Do you have a website of way to join? I so loved doing a previous mystery with you that I was going to look into joining their guild.

  4. Ginabeth Young says:

I loved all the quilts you did. Busy, busy❣️
I did a Limerick Quilt with my 2.5” green and low lights in 2024 as leaders and enders and had it quilted Jan 2025. Got it bound by March this year.

I’m also doing Laundry Baskets BOW this time. I’m behind too because I’ve been out of town.

  5. Angie in Socal says:

Oh what beautiful quilts!! I fell in love with Nightingale. So beautiful. So sorry about Tucker’s toe troubles. Prayers being said.

have you tried having him wear an inflatable “cone of shame”? much easier to adapt to than the hard plastic. we got ours online and it actually looks like a strawberry iced, sprinkle donut. cozy, cute effective

  7. Ginny says:

Always so inspired by the quilts you do, both for others and yourself. Side note: I have decied on 7″ finished Shoofly blocks for my scrap quilt, inspired by “Mildred’s Choice” Have 99 blocks cut and paired up. Did use as many different pieces of fabric as you did. And it sure didn’t use up as much fabric as I would have liked. All stacked up and ready to use as a leader-ender quilt. Take care of Tucker. I know he is special to both of you.

  8. Sandra Weber says:

I love all your quilts, and boy, have you been busy. I picked up the Nightingale pattern at Sew Sweet, and need to figure out fabrics. Congratulations on the new grandbaby! Poor Tucker.

  9. Patti says:

    Some great quilts shown above.
Tucker, you have got to give your mom and dad a break and leave your toes alone. You know I love you, but be a good boy and give them a rest. You are in my nightly prayers. ❤️❤️❤️❤️

  10. PAULA M MO says:

Poor Tucker! I am really digging your Limerick quilt, not that I need to add a new one anytime soon. Currently tackling Jen Kingwells Wensleydale pattern. Loving aspects of it, but, gotta say Alison Glass Minis are easier to handle! I probably should finish two quilts on the table, ones been there for two years…maybe 3, I need to tie it, the other needs binding that’s only been a year and half….or is it two!

  11. Mary Kolb says:

    So many beautiful quilts Shelly!!
Of course MINE is my favorite! Thank you dear friend.
And then, All Around – Wow! The quilting, the fabric and the pattern design, I just love it! ❤️🤍💙
And I have to mention Limerick. I have been wanting to make it since the first time I saw it. Maybe this winter.
You have certainly been cranking them out.😉
