I took the long way to Market this year. First, I went to New York! Victoria wanted me to see it, and she sure had a lot of things to show me!
The first day I was there, she drove me around and showed me some sights, and I finally got to meet her family! Beatrice, Michael, and the dogs, Kia and Jenny Egg! They’re all funny, but the dogs had me laughing so hard, my stomach hurt!
I felt right at home instantly, because Kia adopted my sweatshirt for a nest right away. What an adorable little bedwarmer! And I got to sleep under a quilt that I quilted for Victoria — extra special.
I also got to see Victoria’s new studio space — it’s wonderful! A dedicated space to spread out and work and have everything all together and organized. Certainly a dream of mine, if I can ever get mine finished.
Then we road tripped to Pittsburgh for Market, and you can read all about that trip HERE.
Then we road tripped back again, so I’d have some more sight-seeing time before I had to get back home. The Pennsylvania countryside is just gorgeous, with the prettiest little farms scattered all over, and mountains, and quilt shops. We stopped at a couple along the way, because we needed more fabric.
Back in New York, I got to ride the Subway . . .
. . . walk through Times Square . . .
I got to see the Naked Cowboy in person!
Certainly one of the highlights of my trip!
And my niece quips: “You didn’t have to go all the way to New York just to see a cowboy in his underwear!” No. No, I didn’t. And mine even sings sometimes, too . . . in his underwear!
The New York Naked Cowboy has Naked Cowgirl helpers. I’ll wager My Cowboy would like some helpers like this his ownself! (Because I don’t walk around here in a bikini singing, much to his disappointment.)
We went to Chelsea Market, which I really liked, and then we walked The High Line, which I also liked a lot.
To quote directly from their website:
“The High Line is a public park built on a historic freight rail line elevated above the streets on Manhattan’s West Side.”
You can see so much from up there.
And get fantastic views of things.
And you’re not walking in all the traffic, because it’s all below you!
If you’d like to learn more about The High Line, you can read about it HERE.
I was a bit short on time, but Victoria still drove me past Ground Zero, and I got to see the Statue of Liberty from afar. I also got to see lots of other things that I’ve only read about or heard about, and didn’t figure I’d ever get to see in person.
When I got home, it all seemed a bit surreal, because there I was, back on the farm that night, and just that morning, I had been in New York!
It was amazing fun, and I do need to go back and see some more. Thanks, Victoria, for a lovely time, and for being such a wonderful hostess and tour guide. And thanks sooo much for all the laughs!
I noted one detail about the stay with Victoria that you might not know. That quilt you quilted for her and then slept under has a Kaffe Fassett fabric in it. Just thought you would want to know. (and yes, I do have a lot of his fabrics or have had)
Sounds like you had a fabulous time!!! Spending time with friends, quilty goodness and visiting a new place…perfection!
Now my husband is disappointed because we didn’t see the naked cowgirls while we were in Times Square! LOL Sounds like you had a fun time, and I’m glad you enjoyed yourself. You deserve it!
New York makes me laugh. I love it!
I’m glad you got an opportunity to visit the Big Apple. As a New Yorker, born and bred, I’m always happy to show off all the city has to offer.
How fun! I was born in the Big Apple. Didn’t live there long, but long enough to see some of the sights you mentioned (NOT the cowboy though) It is a wonderful place to visit. But I’m glad I live in the slow moving south now 😉
