I’m ready to show you my final design from this year’s Arrow Rock Quilt Camp. This is the wall quilt I designed for the needle-turn applique class I taught.

It’s called Mayflowers, and I made a modern version:

And a traditional version:

I was doodling in my sketchbook one day and hit up on the idea of making a large applique block surrounded on only two sides by patchwork.

If you don’t care for that asymmetrical look, however, the pattern contains lots of options for different layouts and settings, and even for turning it into a much larger quilt.

Here’s a shot of some of the ladies in my class at Camp (Candy, Echo, and Terri), just diligently working away on their applique pieces!

This original version measures 36″ x 36″, and both the applique and the piecing is easy to do.

The pattern contains complete instructions and full-sized applique templates. It’s available in my Etsy shop in both print and PDF versions.

I have already purchased this pattern and have it laying on my sewing table…………but, we are out of town for two weeks and then we move from the old farm house. I figure the pattern will drop into a drawer and surface belly up weeks or months from now and I will wish I had already done it. It is so sad how life gets in the way of quilting sometimes.

Oh, wow – Girl, you are just on a roll when it comes to designing awesome patterns! I am adding taking an applique class from you to my bucket list. I love both versions…I’m thinking turquoise and browns and rusty reds for mine…which is kind of like yours now that I look back at it. 🙂 Super cute.

I really haven’t dabbled into needle turn applique yet. But I’m thinking of doing a wall hanging for our bedroom. I have a lot of beautiful patterns. Maybe this summer???? Love your design.

I love your pattern! It is gorgeous. I just went and ordered the PDF pattern from your esty shop. I love needle turn appliqué so this is right up my alley. Thank you. Hugs,

I bought the pattern, but haven’t started it yet. Haven’t thought about the fabric yet. Asymmetrical things bother my OCD. Mine will be somewhat bigger at least.

These are lovely, Shelly! I love the way you used a plaid in the modern version — It’s a great nod to the traditional version but still very fresh and clean! As always, you are a great talent!

  8. I’m so behind in reading blogs, but saw this and just had to tell you how much I love this…such a pretty quilt!
