May Studio Organizing, Task One

Posted on May 13, 2022 by prairiemoonquilts in Studio Organizing Challenge

I completely skipped a second organizing task in April. My mojo has been failing me lately. I’ve been unmotivated, uninspired, unimaginative, and just plain tired. But evidently, I can still pen a rhyme! Haha!

I did get my computer files cleaned up. That felt good. It’s always a comfort to have new fresh backups, too. But it’ll be time to do it again before I can blink. Nevertheless, it’s time well spent, since it alleviates worry and possible serious problems in the future.

So what shall we do this time?

Due to my unimaginative status of late, I decided to go to the cards:

And fortunately, this is one I think I can handle. It might even help with the missing mojo — who knows?

It’s amazing how things can gravitate from one area to another so easily, and before you know it, you have an entire pile of things that simply need to be put back where they belong. Is it just me? Or do you notice this, too? Do you have 15-30 minutes worth of stuff you can put away that will make your space seem better?

Happy organizing, and have a fantastic weekend!

I started cleaning a drawer in my sewing room that led me to this very task. I need many 15-30 minute sessions though!

I need to try 30 minutes of putting scraps up.

I participated in Karen Brown’s decluttering project (Just Get It Done Quilts) early this year and those 15-20 minute work sessions make a big difference and makes the project seem much less overwhelming.

I didn’t have computer files to clean up and I don’t have much out of place. What I need to do is figure out how many more blocks I need to make for some of my quilts I’ve been working on. I’m also trying to stay motivated during this crazy weather and my crazy schedule.

I know how you feel. I’m struggling and just chalk it up to having been sick. I still try different things though. I definately need to spend a few minutes each day organizing and putting away. I’m at a good place to try that now!

It would take considerable more than 15 to 30 minutes to do it properly. Then I find myself dragging all that fabric back out. How does that happen?

I feel your lack of Mojo…13 days into the month no block made-no hand stitch-no pattern draft! I am not even sure I watched any classes I signed up for. With all this nothingness I could still get something done giving 15 -30 min putting things away. I will try to let this prompt get me motivated to do some sewing!

Maybe you need some fun…a vacation? My energy and motivation are so variable and mostly low. I chalk that up to getting old. I have great intentions but find less and less gets done😢. I’m trying to readjust my expectations of myself and allow myself to do what I enjoy more and not feel so guilty about not doing chores first. Life is getting too short! Who cares if there are dishes in the sink and animal footprints all over the floor?

As far my sewing studio, I’m working on clearing space on the floor where I have bins of stuff that needs finishing or processing (scraps). It’s going to take many sessions of 15-30 mins! 😱. I did get a backing made for a flimsy this week so it can move on out the the quilting room…is that stuff shifting?

Hope you get your mojo back! Even without it you seem to accomplish more than I can with my mojo!

My computer files have filled back up too!
This next goal is something I have been tackling daily–trying to clean out the porch, where I stashed all kinds of projects and fabric this Winter.
All I really want to do is spend time outdoors in this gorgeous Spring weather–doing yard work and noticing each new bloom!
    Thanks for motivating us!

It’s good to hear that other people have multiple days where it feels so hard to get anything done, We have had so many gray, overcast days here in NJ which doesn’t help at all!

For the most part I put things back were they belong.

My proble is just putting the new stuff in one spot and it piles up and then I put it away

I looked back on April to see what I reported then. I may have done more organizing or I may have made more messes. Here is what stands in the way. Someone gave me a box of fabric (old 80’s stuff) and I had to sort through that and throw some away and wash the rest. That made it easier to throw even more away. Good grief. But I used one backing piece for a community service quilt. And then someone else gave me a scrap children quilt picture. That has now been turned into a children’s quilt for my daughter to give to a young woman who is expecting now. When she lived across the street from my daughter, her life and her siblings suffered two terrible losses. My granddaughter loved those children and was so sorry for them. I am fortunate to still have a slight connection that I can fill with a quilt.

  13. LOL! I not only had 15-30 minutes of time to do this, I spent two days last week just putting things away! Then I dusted and vacuumed. Not bragging, just happy. Always a treat to have such a tidy room 🙂

I cleaned up my phone “Books,” quilt downloads to my main computer. Added memory to my phone.

Luckily I have done this month’s too. Finished a Sew-a-Long quilt. Cut a Charity quilt from the leftovers. And put extra back in stash. Emptied storage bo, but alas it already is filled.
