It’s already time for another Studio Organizing Challenge, and I have to say . . . I failed miserably at the last one. I simply did not have time to squeeze in any extra organizing, other than trying to stay on top of the daily messes I create!
One thing I DID do as far as paper clutter was this: If I handled a piece of paper, I dealt with it right then, rather than laying it elsewhere to be dealt with later. So I’d like to think I didn’t make things worse, even if I didn’t have time to make them much better.
How did you do with the paper clutter?
This time, I’m not issuing a firm challenge. Instead, I’m gonna provide you with some links to things you might find interesting or useful on the topic of organizing, both in your studio, and life in general. You can look them over and see if you can apply any of it to your own situation, and choose what you want to do this time.
So here we go:
Reader Debbi pointed me to the Sunday Basket system by Lisa at Organize365. I might give it a try. It won’t be difficult for me to throw things in a basket that I can’t deal with right away, but going through it once a week might be the real trick!
I might also try a few of the challenges posted here in the Skimm Your Life Challenge. Some of them don’t apply to me. Some of them I’ve already done. But I may choose a few more that need doing, and see what else I can accomplish.
If, while dealing with your paper clutter, you also realized you have a mess of digital patterns to organize, here’s a good article on how Jeni Baker handles hers that might help you out. I’m pretty good about keeping my computer clean and organized (how, I’m not quite sure, since I’m a mess elsewhere), but she has some good tips. You know, so you can actually find those patterns and use them when you’re ready!
Sherri, at A Quilting Life, recently moved and had to set up her sewing space all over again. She has an article with some tips on getting set up and reorganizing that you may find useful. Find them HERE.
And my friend, Amy, at Diary of a Quilter, has a blog post on Sorting, Saving, and Using Fabric Scraps. And we ALL have scraps, right? I’m a good scrap saver — but I can probably use the tips on sorting and USING them.
Or, if you simply want to revisit an old challenge we’ve had here, you can visit this page where they’re all listed: Studio Organizing Challenge.
There. I think that should keep you busy for a while. I hope you find some information you can apply to make your own personal situation a bit better. I know I’ll be working on some more things as time allows.
And I’ll be back later this month with yet another Studio Organizing Challenge.
And since I’m posting links, I haven’t referred to this one in awhile, so if you need a break and a laugh or two, you can go read some of My Cowboy’s sage advice and infinite wisdom HERE. Enjoy!
all of them sound like great ideals…..i will use a few of them to get more things together….
I did go through 4 totes of magazines a lot quilting and others that at the time i could not get rid of….
well i am glad to say that I took it down to 1 tote and the rest went to the thrift store and what they did not want they send to a recycle place in kansas city so it is just not going in the trash…
have a great month quilting and look forward to another challange
I was able to get through some paper. I have a paper station that has slots for different items. I was able to sort through part of them and now have slots for all medical paperwork this year, one for taxes, one other financial, etc. Went through some cabinets and got rid of craft magazines and other items. Went through totes and separated into shred, recycle, and trash. Made piles of paper for children to give to them, hopefully next time we see them. Have more to do, but accomplished quite a bit. Learned how to go through mail and get process better.
I never touched any paperwork this past month. I barely touched my garden and only touched the sewing machine and long arm on a few days I made myself take the time. We’re 2 weeks away from Hell Week, the busiest week of my job. According to the forecast, next week is going to be a rain week. Thanks for the inspiration!
Such good ideas at those posts. Thanks, Shelly. Things have been difficult here with my new caregiving role two days a week. Some things may have to be postponed or be put on a back burner. Blessings,
Thanks for the links! I didn’t get as far as I would have liked on the paper organizing…still trying to do my taxes…yikes!
I am very interested in scrap management because somehow or another I seem to have made a bunch more and even took advantage of a scrap sale (what was I thinking?) so I’m overflowing in scraps and I haven’t been sewing. It seems to me when I’m not able to sew or spend time in my sewing room for one reason or another I make up for it by buying more…anyone else identify with that?
Okay……….life is full of challenges for decluttering. I got sidelined when my email company said that they were discontinuing service and I had to change to a different email service. So I had to switch to media stuff not physical stuff. But I am still trying to get rid of more stuff again this past week. And my small job is in one of its biggest yearly challenges right now. Good grief. Good thing I pray daily.
Paper is all sorted. Now to get on to their organizing projects. Making room for a new freezer and making more space in my sewing corner. It’s just so hard to do. 😉
