May 350 Blocks Report

Posted on June 1, 2022 by prairiemoonquilts in 350 Blocks Project

Whew! My slump really took a toll on my block count this month.

If it wasn’t for my 100 Days Project, which I’m also behind on, I wouldn’t have much to show for the month of May. I made 20 more Vintage Melon blocks:

I made some more blocks for my Mad Dash quilt, four 9-patches, four 4-patches, two pillow tops, a patchwork panel for a tote bag, and two blocks for my Limerick quilt.

I also started two new quilts — yes, even in a slump, I can’t control myself!

The first one is a mystery sampler quilt-along being hosted by American Patchwork & Quilting, called Blast From the Past. You can find the info HERE. We’re only on Month Two, and there are 5 blocks so far. I have two completed, and my third one cut out and ready to sew:

The other one I started is from Edyta Sitar’s Made in USA pattern that I showed you in my last post.

I’m also sorely tempted to jump in on Edyta’s Summer Mystery quilt, but I’m pretty sure I shouldn’t do that. But if YOU want to, you can find the info HERE. Her mystery quilts are always so beautiful!

So that left me with a total of 42 blocks this month.

How about you?

Now that the weather is allowing us outside more, are you still getting some sewing time?

The Project Page is updated as of this morning. Our new block goal for June is 30 blocks, for a year-to-date total of 165 blocks.

The April prize winner is Delana. She’s got 49 blocks so far!

We’ve even had a few more join us, and if you are just now finding us, it’s never too late to hop in! We’d love to have you!

I’m hoping June is not as busy as May was with other stuff, and I think my slump is finally starting to leave town, so maybe I will have a more productive month this time! Happy stitching to us all!

My sewing was very sporadic but I managed to make 93 blocks for 4 projects. I need to get a few projects sewn into tops and hopefully completed quilts this month. With the weather and my schedule some times I just loose motivation to sew. Your studio challenge at the end of May helped me get 2 small quilts quilted and I’m binding one today!

  2. Dianne says:

Well you beat me by a long shot! My May total was, are you ready for it, 0!!! Yep big zero! I did accomplish some sewing but no blocks. Did lots of binding and a lap quilt for granddaughter’s graduation. Hopefully June will be a better month for blocks!

  3. Pam Desilets says:

My total blocks for May is 0.
Had total knee replacement and I unable to set at the sewing machine yet. But I did finish binding one quilt and knitting a pair of socks. Thanks to everyone, I love to read a your posts. Better sewing for June.

  4. denniele says:

I just hate being tempted!!! I have no willpower! But I can claim 129 blocks!

  5. Christi Bentley says:

My total for the month is 120. I did about 40 of my 4patch leader/enders in between other stuff, 16 churn dashes for a new quilt I started, and the blocks I made for the layer cake quilt I pieced. I spent most of my time this month at the longarm, quilting things for my mom.

  6. Ginny says:

piecing month but likely the last for a while. 85 blocks for 2 quilts, both need a lot to finish. Bound 2 quilts, some other odd sewing. We leave for a long week Friday and should be moving into our house almost immediately after we get home. A week with a son and 2 of his daughters.

  7. Mary D. says:

I have 41 for the month of May. I made my granddaughter a Swoon quilt for her birthday, made a 9-block version of my camp quilt for demo, and finished up some blocks from a simple layer cake pattern. The Swoon was the kicker – there are 65 pieces in each block.

  8. Bev C. says:

My count for the month was 179. Finished Riley Blake BOM but the blocks have yet to be put together. Also finished 2 sewalongs. Charlotte Hawkes mystery quilt and Pat Speth mystery quilt, Those 2 tops are both sewn together. Working on 5 other quilt alongs or BOM. I was hoping for every flimsy that I finished this month I could sandwich and quilt 2 quilts. But that didn’t happen. Instead I had a period of time that wasn’t large enough to do a whole project finish so, alas….I started yet another project. I also did a kit for my quilting chapter for a raffle quilt. Now I need to catch up on the new blocks coming out for June. Hopefully this month when I catch up I will be able to finish a few quilts. Fingers crossed.

  9. Fran says:

Love your Vintage Melon block! The points at each end are perfect! In May, I made 137 blocks.

  10. Deanna says:

May was a tough month. Only 11 blocks, and I am proud to have that many. With school getting out there should be a little more time for sewing and hopefully finishing a few more tops.

  11. Sally H says:

An even 100 for May, working on 4 different quilts and 2 placemats.

  12. Mary S. says:

Your petal is so perfect. You accomplished a lot more than I did this month. We had too many celebratory events. My total for this month was a pitiful 17.

  13. Wendy Tuma says:

My May was pretty slow, but I have an excuse. I did manage to get 37 blocks done. Maybe June will be a bit better!

  14. Kathy says:

Worked on ufo’s that needed binding and borders. I did manage to get 25 blocks made for another project.

  15. I made more than double for May than I did in the first four months of the year. So put me down for 22 blocks this month. We did good.

  16. I found time to make 21 blocks during May. I did some cutting for future projects.

  17. Marsha Parkhill says:

23 blocks for me which is surprising since I’m focusing on quilting rather than piecing.

  18. Louise says:

May was a great month – 312 blocks for two quilts. Now I just need to see the blocks together into tops.

  19. Cindy Wienstroer says:

Not much sewing here but did make 71 nine patch but want make disappearing 9 patches. Trying to get small things done before trip to visit granddaughters!

  20. Barbara W says:

Life happened in May! Only 5 blocks. Nicer weather called me outside to do some weeding and yard work. Got a little trapshooting in also which was good for the soul!

  21. Karen E. says:

I made 193 blocks in May for a YTD total of 910.

  22. Rose Marie Smith says:

I made 210 blocks this month. Most of these were scraps made into blocks that I am making into quilts for Linus and for nursing home patients in Arkansas.
But 81 were for a quilt called Snowballs that is sized by Kaffe Fassett. A friend and I cut the snowballs on her automatic cutting thing. Wow, that went fast and the 81 blocks are already pieced together. I intend to make 19 more for a total of 100.

  23. Sad to report a 0 for May. Really busy helping my aunt who just had her second knee replacement/reconstruction in the last few months. Unfortunately, she had issues with her incision which required two extra surgeries and caused me to miss the only sew day I had planned on. Oh well, family comes first. Better luck in June I hope!

  24. Wanda says:

    21 blocks May 2022

  25. Stephanie says:

I had a massive May, doing only piecing, no quilting. A couple of online friends and I aimed for a quilt top a day. We all succeeded! A lot of blocks were made, some from existing components, some from scratch. Total of 310 for me in May, across 17 of the 31 projects. I can hardly believe it myself.

  26. Sharon Gratz says:

WooHoo! I made 2 blocks in May!!!! I’m on a roll!! Nothing can stop me now!!!!……….I wish. lol

  29. Diana S says:

Between sewing dog scarves and continuing to purge fabrics out of my way too much stash I made 99 blocks for the Villa Rosa pattern “Dublin”. Even better those blocks are now in 2 tops! They will be going to my quilter sometime soon.

  30. Peggy says:

O blocks for me this month, but I did do some quilting on the quilt for a friend.

  31. KT says:

I finished 35 blocks in May. June should be better–only 3 weeks of school left until summer break!! Hope to get lots done before summer classes start in July.

  32. Tanya says:

My block total is 202 for May. Thanks to another Plaid-ish quilt that was made for a queen sized bed! I was able to get my Mad Dash sections #1 and 2 sewn together this month. Looking forward to piecing the other sections together soon. 😁

  33. Marlene Clausen says:

27 blocks for May. Only 20 blocks in a full-size quilt, they were big blocks! But, the quilt is finished from cutting to binding in less than a week. I think that is come kind of record for me!! I also piece a smaller quilt (50 x 50) that had only 7 blocks. Will get that one sandwiched today and (hopefully) start quilting.

  34. Christine T says:

I made just 5 blocks this month – 12.5” maple leaf blocks for a charity BoM. It was fun to work to a larger scale after all those little ones. However, the process of selling/buying/moving house has now totally taken up my time – I may not get back to the sewing machine for a while!

  35. sharonG says:

4 blocks for may, at least it is better than the 0 blocks for April. Sometime life get in the way.

  36. Well, sorry to say I have you beat in May. I produced zero blocks. As one of your other readers commented, sometimes life gets in the way.

  37. Paula Mu in NE Ohio says:

This wasn’t a good month for blocks. I made 40 but… no Mad Dash blocks. 3 Riley Blake mystery, 7 Secret Lives of Color, 2 Spicy, 1 Sherry McConnell, 4 Branching Out, 5 BlockHeads, 14 in a mini lady bug quilt, and 4 for a Jacqueline Steves project. Just not too motivated to sew this month. Hopefully June will be better.

  38. Barbara B says:

    62 blocks completed in May

  39. Shirley Guier says:

I had 16 for a mystery quilt and 24 for a bird quilt. Total of 40 for me.

In May I sewed 31 blocks, mostly hourglass ones. I was totally surprised to see my name as the April winner! Thank you, Shelly!

  41. Not a bad number for having been out of town or doing other things…. 50 blocks for me. Several were blocks needed to finish tops. Excellent!

  42. I finished one block. It is needle turn applique.

  43. Suelynn Williams says:

  45. Ginabeth says:

You got some things done❣️ I heard if you start a new small/ quick project it helps get the MoJo back.

I was able to get 112 done this month. Finished a BOW. Then decided to add a pieced block border really used my count.

Take care of all the body parts😮
And thank you for keeping the count❣️

  46. Randy Menninghaus says:

    Just like the white rabbit… I’m late I’m late… for a very important date….
    69 for me…

  47. Debra Freese says:

    42 for me in May.
I made 36 Flowering Snowball blocks. All hand pieced because I needed a traveling project.
6 Endless Summer blocks to make a lovely table runner for my daughter in law’s birthday. I used Morning Light fabrics by Linzee McCray.
We are in the process of replacing windows in our home. So…..my studio was out of commission for a while. 😬 I went to my daughters for a week.

  48. Phillis Harding says:

378 blocks made this month. Managed to complete 5 quilts with these. Got 2 of them quilted. Working on churn dash blocks now and using 9 patch blocks as leader enders. This is the time of year I usually slow down but still going strong at the moment.

  49. Helen Beall says:

Zero for May…making it to my 83rd birthday was my only accomplishment! Feeling a new energy surge coming my way.

  50. Carissa says:

29 Blocks here. I had some deadlines as well that helped me get that many! The yard and garden are demanding attention, so there’s less time in the sewing room!

  51. Linda Knight says:

I made 1 single block quilt top and quilted and bound 3 other small quilts. I did start cutting out another quilt top but had to order 2 yards of Kaffe Fassett fabric to finish it off.

  52. Oh my goodness! Thank you so much for the sweet gift for winning a couple months ago. I received it last week. Fat Q’s are a fave!
For May I made 35 blocks which brings my YTD to 348. I guess I am nearly there and will go over this year -yay!!

  53. Michele says:

61 blocks this month- other projects have taken some time away from actual sewing.

  54. Susan S says:

A little late reporting as my block tally was at home and I wasn’t. I made 59 more simple blocks, and 14 potholder blocks so the total for May is 73. That is way more than I thought I would accomplish as the garden is in full swing and I am also helping with work around here on the farm.

  55. Debbi says:

Wasn’t as bad as I thought since I’ve spent many hours the last week of May trying to fit too much fabric in too small of a space😱.

I was able to make 63 blocks, most of those are square in a square blocks for my temp quilt and a few for Blast from the Past mystery blocks. Finished a few table runners and a pillow so feel like things are moving along.

I’d say you are moving along too despite the slump you feel!

  56. Not much block-making happening here, a total of 28 blocks for May. I did finish two quilts and took two Zoom classes near the end of the month.

  57. Clara says:

Hello, Shelley. 28 blocks for May. My primary distraction from sewing was gardening…planting cool weather plants, weeding, and planting geranium, pansies and marigolds. Enjoying all the color in my yard.

  58. Becky Cogan says:

My count for May was 231. Most of those were Mad Dash blocks. A few pumpkin blocks. Putting Mad Dash together. Anxious to see it all together.

  59. Judy Sovereign says:

Slow month. Only got 15 done. Have to work harder.

  60. katie z. says:

I made 101 blocks in May, for a total of 1377 blocks. My triangles are officially all gone, so I need a new quick and tiny project!

  67. Marsha Y. says:

My count for May is zero. I had really good intentions, but life got in the way. I did finish the binding on a large king size quilt to be gifted this month. Hopefully June will be better! I did manage to clean up my sewing area several times during the month.

  68. Danice says:

No blocks for me in May. ‘Still busy working on unfinished quilts. It is amazing how many blocks so many others have already completed.
