May 350 Blocks Report

Posted on May 31, 2021 by prairiemoonquilts in 350 Blocks Project

It just seems crazy that this year is almost half over already! As usual, I don’t have near enough done.

I’ve been at the longarm for many hours every day. My back is hating me for it, but I have some serious deadlines to meet. So most of the piecing I did this past month was all during the first week of the month. During the later part of the month, I only sat at the machine briefly to give my back a rest from standing at the longarm!

I ended up with 84 blocks this month, which is way more than I expected!

16 blocks for my Panel Challenge quilt (did those at the very last minute!):

23 for the Springtime in Arrow Rock BOM quilt (also squeezed in at the last minute):

I made 25 extra Signature blocks so I could collect some more signatures while I was at Quilt Camp. And, by the way, if you haven’t sent me a Signature Block yet, but would like to, I’ve decided I’m still collecting and am going to keep collecting as long as I’m still sewing on the quilt, and I would love to have LOTS more, so go visit the tutorial HERE and send me a Signature block!

I made 20 more Churn Dash blocks for a quilt I’ll be showing you soon.

All of that sure added up to more than I feel like I did!

How about you?

It’s time for you to report in with your May totals. I have the Project Page updated as of this morning.

Our new goal for June is 30 blocks, for a year-to-date total of 166.

The April prize winner is Sharon G in FL, who is up to 137 blocks so far!

Summer is on the way, fast. I hope you’re having a wonderful long Memorial Day weekend. Happy stitching in June!

2 blocks for May! Did a whole lot of finishing this month and almost no making. Also, my main sewing room is nearly empty and have so much space! Just one table of stuff to be redistributed to other locations and waiting for some more shelving to be built and installed.

  3. Crystal F says:

44 Quilts of Valor blocks.. now to put them together.

  8. Kathy P says:

Well I managed to do 44 blocks, bind 2 quilts, starch 40 fat quarters for an upcoming project, and make 10 quilt labels. Not a bad month for me.

  9. Pam Desilets says:

    102 blocks for May.

  10. Sandi says:

I didn’t get any blocks made in May as we were moving and everything was packed up. I just got my sewing room together so hopefully I’ll get stuff done in June.

  11. Sharon Gratz says:

WOW! I’m so looking forward to seeing some mystery quilting/sewing fun. Thank you so much!
My made blocks number for May is 44. Doing my best to keep up and help the 2021 end result be outstanding. Thank you, Shelly.

  12. Cathy Wight says:

Retreats sure help the count…first retreat in 1 1/2 years! YAY!! 70 blocks for me!

  13. Wendy Tuma says:

May flew by! 68 blocks for me this month.

  14. Fran says:

May was my best month ever. I made 355 blocks. I will probably never make that many blocks again.

19 blocks for me. Still concentrating on making the tops I have into finished quilts

  16. denniele says:

59 blocks for May. You have been busy!

  17. KT says:

51 blocks for me! I started the mystery from Laundry Basket quilts–lots of easy blocks. Can’t wait to start the Arrow Rock sampler–just 2 more weeks of school!

  18. Mary D. says:

I did 230 this month! A big part of them were the Laundry Basket mystery – they were all 4″ blocks and not that complicated. I also made my granddaughter a pineapple quilt that was also made of fairly simple blocks. A fun sewing month. June, unfortunately, is looking like lots of machine quilting and not much piecing.

  19. Becky Cogan says:

I got 98 blocks made this month. So much more I want to do. Enjoy reading everyone’s post.

  20. Maxine E says:

I did not sew much this month. Laziness is the reason. I only sewed 5 blocks.

  21. Susan s says:

Love your spring time quilt, so pretty! Sadly I didn’t get any quilt blocks made, although I did do some sewing for the grands including satin crib sheets for the little that has a ton of hair! I also made a bunch of fabric flowers and doggie clothes. Here is hoping g I get to make blocks in June

  22. Karen E. says:

64 blocks for me in May. I spent more time sewing blocks and sashings into quilt tops than I did making blocks.

  23. Stephanie says:

80 for me this time –
35x 16 patch and pinwheels, a 15 row TATW, and 30 simple ones for a Doggo quilt.

  24. Diane says:

38 blocks total for me for the month of May. I’ve make 14 Rolling 9 Patch blocks, 12 Denovo blocks and 12 Whimsical blocks. I’ve put a few borders on. I like doing that less than I like binding. I’d rather just built the blocks. But it is starting to feel a little like progress. I’ve heard from several long arm quilters that there is no shortage of work for them. I’m glad I don’t have anything going into a show. Your signature blocks are going to look fabulous together! Like a color party! I can’t wait to see them all together.

  25. Diana S says:

I surprised myself with 60 for the month. 36 for the Mix and Match quilt top and 24 Log Cabin blocks. Put borders on 2 children’s quilts and did manage to bind my Faded Charms quilt. I’m happy!

  26. Ginny says:

Sewing machines Will still be packed for a long while. Zero blocks for May
So sad, I really miss my sewing!

  27. Paula Morgan says:

My count for May is 55- for my Aleatha Ballard Pretty Quick Quilt- I made way more blocks pretty sure they will end up on back – so I will count them next month. I did have 2 quilt flimsy this month almost a top a month this year! Pretty jazzed about that!!

  28. Ceil Podzimek says:

I completed 52 blocks for May – 25 blocks for my guild’s BOHO Heart quilt along and 27 for a self-designed quilt (following the BOHO Heart placement pattern). I’ve now started quilting on 5 quilts that are sandwiched and waiting.

  29. Christi Bentley says:

369 for me this month! I did the Laundry Basket Mystery Quilt blocks, a couple of Christmas table toppers, a couple of table runners, several Easy Breezy leader/enders and 4-patch leader/enders, the remaining blocks for my homespun leaves quilt, and just did the first 2 blocks of my guild’s challenge project………. 5 1/2″ blocks, 44 pieces each……… pretty good month for me.

  30. Amanda M. says:

I made 75 blocks for 5 different projects this month. I’m very surprised by how many I created but then I realized I create simple blocks as my leaders and enders when I’m putting blocks together into rows. I finally got all the blocks created for a King size quilt and I’m down to the final seam to get the top together! I hope I can keep motivated in June. I was so aggravated with quilting earlier today I’m glad I didn’t have access to an acetylene torch; she wasn’t acting up, I was just that frustrated.

  31. Joan says:

Six blocks made this month. Finished hand-quilting a quilt that has taken years. Also finished sewing a top, by adding the final borders this month. Thanks for keeping us motivated to sew!

  32. Christine Thomas says:

I made 24 blocks this month. I also finished quilting a top so feels like it’s been a productive month fo me. Summer has suddenly arrived and there’s been a lot of gardening these last few days, not much sewing! Wonderful to have warm sunshine at last, has been a long cold Spring.

  33. I ended May with a total of 77 blocks made!

  34. Carissa says:

I was surprised when I counted up my blocks for the month and had 271! I did make a quilt with 4 patches and followed along with Laundry Basket Quilts Mystery, so that added up to a lot of blocks!

  35. Julie M. says:

I ended up with only 4 blocks this month but today is my first official day of retirement! Over the weekend I rearranged my sewing room and found way more tops that need to be sandwiched than I thought I had and ran out of my favorite quilting thread so I’m off to get some more. I’ll be busy in June!

  36. 26 blocks for May. I hurriedly stitched five yesterday just to get to this total. I did manage to pull a whole lotta weeds though 🙂 Always a trade-off…

  37. Louise says:

I only count my blocks when I finish all of them for a whole quilt. So, I am counting 362 blocks this month. Most of them were made over the last several months, but I finally get to count them all.

  38. Kathi B says:

3 blocks in May for me. Weather was finally decent so spent most of my time outside working in the garden (weeding). Last frost (I hope!) was this past saturday night/sunday morning, so I plan on planting tomatoes, peppers, etc this week. Probably not much sewing for June unless the weather is too bad.

  39. Cindy Wienstroer says:

Not many blocks to report this month. 16 Kaleidoscope blocks for a table runner that needs to be quilted. Also pieced from large pieces a quilt back. Mostly organizing fabric given to me by a church friend and husband’s medical emergency. Maybe next month. I did get all the pens & pencils done & have a blister from sharpening pencils.

  40. Elaine W says:

My count for May is 46 blocks. I feel like I’ve slowed down lately. Maybe June will be better.

  41. Barbara B says:

    40 blocks in May

  42. christopher thomas says:

Well May was a good month for me as I got a total of 682 blocks done as I have been working on memory quilts for people and was getting it done on these rainy days. I have 4 more quilts to do for people out of fabric from their loved ones and will be working on those tomorrow.

Today has been spent in getting my shop all moved around so that I can open up weekend after next.

So much to do and so little time to get it all done. I will just keep going and going. Happy quilting everyone

  43. Wanda marvel says:

    25 blocks

  44. Coralie Wallace says:

31 blocks for May. Scrappy blocks for a quilt for myself , leaders and enders, and applique blocks for a baby quilt for a new grandchild coming later this summer.
Thank you for coordinating this challenge, have a good month. Coralie

  45. Suelynn Williams says:

    77 for me!

  46. Pam says:

161 total for May – Thanks to quilt camp.

  47. Rose Marie Smith says:

I have 52 blocks to report this month. In addition to that I pieced three community service quilts out of leftover blocks……………..but that doesn’t count in this report. I am happy to even have this many to report.

    PS check my email

  48. Paula Mu in NE OH says:

It is hard to believe that May is over. I feel pleased with my block progress this month. I had 5 Riley Blake blocks, 63 “Sweetie Pie” blocks, 10 Scrap Dance blocks, 9 Sept. Make it Mini blocks, 17 Stacking bricks “blocks,” and 1 signature block. The signature block will go in the mail tomorrow. I need to get started on the Springtime in Arrow Rock BOM. 52. Only 30 blocks for me this month but I did rearrange my sewing corner, built some shelves and spring cleaned the apartment. I also spent time with my longarm and do feel like I accomplished something. 😉
My yearly count is sad; only 240 blocks so far.

  53. Clara Chandler says:

32 blocks for May. It is a challenge to balance sewing and gardening, as others have written. We have had some spectacular days here in the Pacific NW and my yard has some gorgeous blooms right now. Love seeing the progress on your quilts, Shelly.

  54. Karen says:

You always amaze me with how much you get done. Love how your panel project turned out and that BOM quilt. I’ve been sewing; trying to make myself a blouse, but no blocks to report for May.

  55. Angie in SoCal says:

It was a difficult month, but I did squeeze in 19 blocks for May.

  56. Deanna says:

May went well as I continued to work on two projects for a total of 44 blocks. This looks to be a record setting year for me if I stay on pace.

  57. I had a few days away with sewing friends which got me to 71 blocks for May. I don’t believe we are in June already. Well done everyone.

  58. Marilyn Holder says:

Total for May is 18. Organizing is my problem; working on it. Thanks for your tips.

  59. Delana says:

I made 60 blocks in May.

    243 blocks in May.
225 of them were for the Laundry Basket Mystery sew along. I still need to decide on a border (or not).
16 were for the Highway 36 Quilt Trail shop hop quilt.
    The others were sample blocks.

  61. Linda Knight says:

I missed this email until today so it’s obvious I didn’t have much quilting time this month. I made 2 blocks but I quilted and bound 2 quilts and made two large bags for my grandson-in-law to carry signs used when he and his son show miniature cows.

  62. Judy Smith says:

I had 30 blocks for May.

  63. Barb Roberts says:

Reporting in with 40 blocks for May. May not have reported for April but it was a zero since I was making quilted coats. A couple quilt samples to make in June so numbers will be back up. Thanks Shelly

  64. Debbi says:

Oh my! June is flying by and see the block count for May still in my inbox🤪. You are so productive!

Me, I had a week at the lake 😊. I caught up on my Nebula BOM and Snowflake sampler BOM finished the Feb block. Progress is good, but slow around here.

5 blocks for me. However, I’m going to retreat this week for 3 nights so no interruptions, except new projects😱

  65. Sheila says:

I haven’t been doing as good as I would like…I few squirrels got in the way! My year total is 95.
Congrats to all who are getting blocks done!!! Sweet!

Thought I had turned in my count for May, but couldn’t find a post for me. Zero blocks for May. Busy time with work outside and customers quilts to finish. hoping June will be more productive!
