May 350 Blocks Report

Posted on May 31, 2019 by prairiemoonquilts in 350 Blocks Project

I’ve completely lost my sewing mojo! I haven’t hit a slump like this in years. I hope it doesn’t hang around for long, altho it’s been nearly three weeks already. There’s so much I need to do, and I don’t feel like doing any of it. I’ve barely even set foot in my sewing room.

So not like me . . .

I have managed to do a bit of handwork, however, and for the month of May, I completed 11 more quilt blocks.

I made one more section of my third version of my Summertime Sampler:

I made two crumb blocks for our guild’s monthly block challenge:

I made 7 more Vintage Christmas Ornament blocks for the Quilt-Along going on HERE.

And I did another appliqué block that I don’t have a photo of yet, but I’ll show you that quilt later.

I also worked on my mystery quilt, but I’m not counting those blocks until I’m all done, so that I don’t accidentally count them twice.

I sure hope my slump is over soon! Tomorrow, I’ll be at my local guild’s annual quilt show in Kirksville, Missouri:

I’m seriously hoping to come home all inspired with renewed mojo for sewing. If you’re in the area, you should come see our show. It’s always wonderful!

So how did you do this month? Did you hit a slump, too, or did you get in lots of sewing time?

It’s time to report in with your totals this month. I have the Project Page updated, so be sure and check your totals. I know I lost a few last month, so you gotta keep an eye on me! Leave a comment on this post and let me know how you did, or you can contact me HERE or email me directly if comments misbehave, which they seem wont to do occasionally.

Our new goal for blocks to make in June is 35, for a year-to-date total of 153. We’ll be halfway through the year by then — can you believe it?

The prize winner for April is Marsha Y., who is up to 105 blocks for the year so far!

I hope we all have a productive sewing month in June! Happy stitching!

I made 20 blocks this month
there were way to many other things to do.

  2. Louise says:

I made 42 blocks this month, as well as finishing a few projects that needed less than an hour’s work for each one. Why, oh why, do I put projects away when they are almost done?????

  3. Janet D says:

I’m sure sorry you hit the slump, I had it in April but May was better…28 blocks.

  4. Cathy Wight says:

My May was a total slump…I didn’t get any blocks completed. 😢. I’ll try to make up for it in June.

  5. KT says:

I finished 53 blocks in May. Should have finished quilting a quilt, but didn’t–that is a top priority since it’s intended as a graduation gift, and graduation is in 11 days! Gotta get busy!

  6. Amanda M. says:

Ugh. What a month. I got 42 blocks created for 4 different projects; 3 Veterans quilts for the Quilt Show and one other project. I also fought Mother Nature to keep up with my mowing, only got stuck a handful of times. I must thrive on stress but I’ll be glad to get back to normal, whatever that is.

  7. I like that you used so many different reds in your applique flower.

  8. My month isn’t exactly a slump, but sewing was shoved aside by life. Not bad things, just a lot of things that left me with little time or energy to work. That said, I have 15 blocks for the month for a total of 192 this year. Here’s to a better June for both of us!

  9. Clara Chandler says:

May was a busy month for me=57 blocks of various sizes for several projects. One project was a first for me. I designed and completed a small child’s quilt for a display at the LQS. It was fun!

  10. Julie M says:

Sorry to hear about your slump. Hopefully the quilt show will help. I was able to get 85 blocks done in May.

  11. Betty Keene says:

May was an improvement over April. I completed 40 blocks. I made cat mats and lots of mug rugs. I count them as 1 each from start to finish. Some are more complicated but it is just easier counting them as 1.

  12. Ginny says:

Just got your email today. Oh well it is cyber space.
My number for May is 7. now if you could count things like curtains and non-sewing things it would be different. I have been hit the bug that piles any flat surface with papers or material. That had better get in hand.

  13. There’s hope for you and me. Our total blocks at least is not zero. I made 18 what with the two baby quilt tops I started. I had a two week slump and seemed to be gradually getting out of it. I blame it on the three day intensive quilting retreat I went to this past month. Last night was not a good show – spent the evening reading and watching TV. Ugh.

  14. denniele says:

58 blocks for me…..I am glad to have company in the missing mojo dept. Since market…which was totally inspiring…I have been struggling! Hope the quilt show cured yours!

  15. Wanda Marvel says:

    6 blocks

  16. Paula Mullet says:

I have 94 this month. Sixty four from Temecula Quilts “one block Wednesday (feel kind of guilty about those), 13 Virginia’s Puzzle rows(I count as one block per row), 4 Ripples blocks, 10 Threadology and 3 mug rug/pillow blocks. Thank you again for doing this. It is lots of fun.

  17. Karen says:

I love your first block. You do such beautiful applique work! I only got 10 blocks done this month, but I did manage to get a knitting project done, so at least some hand work.

  18. Tonia (aka Ima) in Oregon says:

Congratulations all of you who didn’t hit a slump this month! I did get one quilt tied–you know the kind of project that is in the back of your mind that says, “you can’t do anything else until THAT is done?” Well as of Wednesday IT is done! So, perhaps, June will bring numbers up–right after the garden is planted this next few days–Happily Snowflake the young ewe did lamb the other day, whew that was close for her future was hanging in the balance! Blessings to us all!

  19. Paula says:

I added solid blocks to my trinket sal. Hated using it for piecing I won’t count them! I added solid blocks to one Christmas quilt. I will figure a count in June. Other than those, I have been busy cutting fabric to catch up on sew alongs and Christmas. Maybe I will count one for effort! I did a lot of ripping and repeatedly ripping that trinket top!!!!

  20. 37 blocks for me in May. I did have some days last week where I couldn’t seem to get much of anything done. Your applique block is lovely!

  21. Sharon Gratz says:

84 blocks for me this month. Some of them contained 28 HSTs, 🙂

  22. Wendy Tuma says:

Hope your slump moves on soon. I only managed 33 blocks this month.

  23. Judy Smith says:

I made 25 blocks this month. The two graduation quilts are done so maybe I can pick up the pace now.

  24. Carolyn Schomaker says:

My mojo has been in slump also. Think it’s all this rain that won’t quit. Did get 78 blocks, mostly HST for a Christmas challenge from guild. Need completed by zjuly.

  25. Karen E. says:

I made 141 blocks in May. Happy summer sewing to everybody!

  26. Tia says:

    23 blocks for me!

  27. Kari says:

Ok….I got a chuckle out of everyone’s slump where they reported 20 plus blocks….for me, a slump is zero…due to family illness and need to step in to babysit, my number of blocks is closer to zero! 6 blocks but I cut out a lot of projects and made at least 40 half square triangles for a block of the month! My slumps happen when life has just been too crazy and carving out time is difficult with fatigue levels high…I usually hibernate reading and resting before the urge to sew surfaces…good luck to all!

  28. Peggy says:

Between the weather and bugs, I’m not loving being outside. My iris bloomed wonderfully until the heat ramped up. Some sort of itch sent me to the ER and meds prescribed messed with my innards and eyes. Soooo… I only felt like sewing a little. Did enjoy teaching my grandson to use my sewing machine to piece two “floral American flags” (I finished them as he wasn’t loving quilting with the jumpy walking foot.) I’m not counting them, but I did 2 more myself which have 2 pieced star blocks on the backs. So I’ll say my total is 6 blocks. I will post ,hem on IG around the 10th as two of the four placemats are a birthday gift. I do have a modern fans wall hanging in mind for June if I’m feeling better than I did in May.

  29. Elaine Walker says:

Yep I know how it is. My sewing mojo left me earlier this year for about 2 1/2weeks. Finally just powered thru a couple sewing bouts and sure enough it was back. 👍😀. I got 37 blocks done in May. It felt like a good month.

  30. Sandy Hartman says:

I made 33 blocks in May. And I don’t know what happened- I was crazy busy and I forgot to report my April blocks! I had 54 blocks for April. Can you add both of those to my totals please?

  31. Debbi says:

My sewing mojo is coming back! I made 9 blocks. However I used 4 of them along with some swap blocks and put together a lap robe which I quilted, bound and gifted. So a completion feels really good for me as I haven’t had one of those for too long. I still have hope that I’ll be able to meet the year goal of 365 blocks, have a few new projects that have deadlines.

Broke down and set up a sewing machine in my living room since my sewing studio continues to be in the thows of organization -the phase where it is worse before it gets better. I keep running into decision fatigue so the process is slow.

    • Karen says:

I will have to remember that phrase, “decision fatigue”. That’s exactly what happens to me. Any more I just have to break things down into small steps or doing them for short periods of time through out the day. Good luck in the sewing room reorganizing! Mine never seems to be done.

  32. Crystal Farinella says:

25 blocks for me…..spring cleaning keep me busy!

  33. Joan says:

88 blocks done and one quilt finished for the Minnesota Quilt show coming in mid-June at Rochester.

  34. Joy Dabney says:

Made 34 blocks for May. Schools out in 2 weeks so maybe I will get more done for June.

  35. Debi says:

In two months, we have traveled coast to coast, NY to San Francisco. My mojo is someplace in this country, so if you find it, please send to me in Michigan! I did manage to pack my FW as a carry on, and completed 10 blocks. And they were big, 16 inches! Wedding in my back yard in 5 days, then I can get back to my machine!

  36. Aileen Kline says:

Hi Ladies. I was able to make 28 blocks. May was rough. Still organizing the sewing room, my bedroom and the living room. Forced Spring cleaning. My daughter moved in with us in February and we turn the house upside down trying to give her my old sewing room. It was filled with stuff we didn’t know what to do with, which ended up in my sewing room, bedroom and living room. So file and purge took a few months.! Happy Sewing

  37. Shirley Guier says:

I had problems sewing in February and March. I think I’m back on track. At least I’m feeling better. Things will settle down and you’ll get back in the grove too. I don’t count my blocks until the quilt top is finished or I will get really confused with what I have done. I got one baby quilt done and Star Storm for 59 blocks.

  38. Angela says:

How frustrating to lose your quilting mojo. ☹️
There have been a few times in my lifetime when I had absolutely no desire to work on any of my projects; thankfully, those feelings always seem to disappear.
Last month I was on a quilting frenzy. I started and finished one new quilt and finished three UFO quilts that were in the “finished block stage”. Hopefully, my sewing frenzy will continue through the summer!
I made 105 pieces blocks and 3 applique blocks in May.

  39. Cheryl says:

I made 238 blocks in May for a YTD total of 1447. I also finished four UFOs.

  40. Rose Marie Smith says:

I did what seems like a lot of blocks – but those blizzard blocks sure are small and easy. Only 10 blocks were a bit of a challenge. One group of 30 blocks were supposed to be super easy and I just went bonkers trying to set them together. So I appreciate the credit of 30. Put me down for a total of118.

  41. Danice says:

What some pretty blocks you have made. I was able to make 39 blocks in May, a bit better than before.

  42. My total was 43 for the month of May. Sure wish I could get more done in a month.

  43. Marlene says:

10 blocks this month. Doesn’t seem like much for such a busy month. Mostly, it has been bag making, getting three quilts ready to be quilted, jam making, and a week at the beach. Even at the beach I had hand work with me for the evenings. This month will see an improvement in block making: I have to get out at least three QOV tops and five bags and quilt those three quilts.

  44. Scarlett says:

I must have been in a slump as well! I embroidered a “block” for a pillow – graduation gift – does that count?? I need to get more organized and SEW!

  45. I got 30 blocks done for May. I feel I should have done more but it is what it is. I am sure your mojo will be back soon.

  46. Linda Knight says:

I got 8 blocks made in May. I also quilted and bound 2 small quilts that I had pieced earlier and donated those along with 4 more small ones to a fund raiser for the church youth camp fund, so although I’m not getting lots of blocks made I at least feel like I’m accomplishing something. Hope your inspiration returns quickly after a restful lull.

  47. Pam Martin says:

I got my 49 Good Fortune blocks put together and 16 paper pieced blocks finished. For a total of 65 blocks. Both quilts are ready to put together now. Pretty good month. Probably won’t have many blocks next month as it is time to finish the quilts by putting the blocks all together. Yeah!

  48. Erin says:

I have made 6 blocks for May. But school is out and I hope to get a lot more made over the summer !

  49. Erin says:

I got 6 made in May. I am out of school, so hope to get more done over the summer 😊

  50. Beverly Vendt says:

I am counting 5 blocks for May. I did more but they are for a bigger quilt, so I will count those later. I started picking up the hand stitching as it being summertime, I am not home as much to sew.

  51. Randy Menninghaus says:

    23 for me

  52. Marsha Y. says:

I was surprised when I checked my weekly totals for May blocks and I had 18 blocks completed. I was amazed I got that many done with trying to get all my quilts done for the quilt show. Hope to get back to making lots of blocks in June. Thank you, Shelly, for my prize package for April. I appreciate all your hard effort to keep us inspired to create blocks and quilts. Hope you find your mojo this month!

  53. Wendy O says:

May, it is over! Was Busy for me but, I didn’t loose my mojo! I actually caught up on some blocks from the 52 blocks in 52 weeks! Still 3 behind but….Made 9! And, made some setting blocks for another quilt, 4, and put that quilt together, 1!!
AND! I cut and finished a Dinosaur quilt! For ME! A Broken Star but, I love it! 32 blocks!
Already cooking on 4 burners this month!

  54. Christi Bentley says:

This was my lowest month to date with 32, but I spent more time on the longarm and got some projects completed, so that was good!

  55. Maxine E says:

I made 5 blocks. May was wicked busy with showers, family visits and weddings. I still found a few minutes to add a few blocks for my pineapple quilt which I started a year ago. Hopefully my time will be my own in June and I can get cracking on my list of quilts to be made.

  56. Phillis Harding says:

I did 350 string blocks for heartstrings and got them mailed off. Did not even put a dent in my tub of strings.mojo has left so only did this mindless sewing for the month. I have been stumped on a quilting design all month on a quilt I must get finished.

  57. Delana Becker says:

    55 blocks for May

  58. Christopher Thomas says:

I was setting there sewing and was thinking that I have not reported my blocks sewn for May. Can you say that I have had other things on my mind. LOL.

Well I guess it is better late then never.

I did 175 blocks for the month of May.

    Happy quilting one and all

  59. Pam Desilets says:

I reported 231 blocks for May
    I didn’t see mine updated
