A couple weeks ago, I showed you Tom’s “Monsters!” quilt, and at that time, I told you that his wife, Marianne, had also sent me a quilt top to quilt.
Well, today I’m back to show you Marianne’s quilt. It’s from a pattern called “Nantucket,” by Minick and Simpson, and she made it from their fabric line called “Midwinter Reds”. I think it’s just gorgeous!
Marianne wanted custom quilting, and she asked for ruler work inside the stars. So I did straight lines inside them to form an inner design.
I did diagonal lines on the red nine-patches, and filled in the neutral background with some straight line quilting, but I added just a few curves to soften everything up just a bit.
I carried these same lines and curves into the backgrounds between the stars to try and tie everything together.
Marianne’s piecing is absolutely impeccable, which sure makes my job a lot easier!
Marianne even used a Midwinter Reds print on the back of her quilt. I am such a sucker for polka dots of any kind — I love this!
I changed thread colors on this quilt, using red on the reds and a neutral color on the backgrounds. You can tell this more on the back side of the quilt.
I used one layer of Quilter’s Dream Poly Select batting. The finished quilt measures around 67″ square.

As an added bonus, while I was in Paducah last week with my sister, I got to meet Tom and Marianne in person! They are wonderful — I’m sure we could have chatted all day. They’ve each already sent me another quilt to quilt, and I can hardly wait to get started on them.
Thanks, Marianne, for letting me quilt for you, and I’m so glad I got to meet you and Tom last week!
I really like this fabric collection and the quilt is lovely, especially with your quilting.
