March 350 Blocks Report

Posted on March 31, 2024 by prairiemoonquilts in 350 Blocks Project

Hello, there! Can you tell I haven’t felt like blogging lately? No posts in March, which is really unusual for me. I’ve just been all discombobulated, and I’ve been super scattered. I really haven’t felt like doing much of anything, and it’s starting to show! I think my mojo just upped and walked away sometime towards the end of February. It’s a miracle I got any blocks done this past month at all.

But I did end up with a March total of 38 blocks, so I met the goal in spite of myself!

I finished another Pineapple block. I’m officially past the halfway point now. (So only another 2 years before I’m done, right? Haha!)

I made Block 3 from the Made & Found QAL:

And Block 4: (I might have those switched.)

And now I’m officially behind, because we’re on Block 7, and I haven’t even started Block 5. The blocks are fairly simple, tho, so I’m hopeful I can catch up, if I can only convince my mojo to come back. (Didn’t I write an article on that?)

More mystery blocks are in that count, as usual, but I can’t show them yet.

I made two more Blast from the Past blocks. I think this is Block 21:

And this is Block 22:

Only 8 more of those to go before I can start on the filler and start setting it together. You’d think that would be good motivation, but so far, it’s not, really.

So I hope you all had a much better sewing month than I did. I hope with warmer temps finally finding us that I can re-locate my mojo and get back at it. We’ll see.

It’s time for you to report in with what you got done in March.

The block goal for April is 28 blocks, for a year-so-far total of 98. I have the Project page updated as of this morning.

The prize winner for February is Marlene, who has already made 158 blocks this year!

I wish us all lots of good sewing time in April. And for none of us to have missing mojo. If you’re celebrating Easter today, I hope you have a blessed Easter Sunday.

276 into 6 finished quilts this month.
    60 uneven 9p.

    Total 336 blocks in March!!!!

  2. Rose says:

I had 106 blocks in March. Completed a baby quilt with 81 blocks, 3 hand appliqued orange peel blocks, 2 scrap blocks and 20 Chic Picnic blocks.

  3. Carissa says:

Glad to see that you meet your goal in spite of the challenges!

I chose to do a lot of sewing for Easter, but did finish 28 blocks early in the month. Now to catch back up with my nine patches!

  4. I had a very productive month, ending up with a total of 128 blocks.

  5. Wendy Tuma says:

I had 30 blocks for March, a quieter month, but still moving things forward!

  6. Kathy P says:

Completed 27 blocks for the month and working on borders for 2 quilts. Those 2 quilts were sent out to be long armed. Both my long arm ladies decided to retire so I’m trying a new person in my guild. My quilts should be done that later part of this week or early next week. I can’t wait to see them.

  7. 160 blocks for me. Hoping things will pick up a bit from here on out but honestly, with gardening (and golf) season, I guess I never know!
Those are beautiful blocks–so fun to see the fabric play in them. I didn’t have much of a mojo throughout March either–blaming it on weather and garden work but either way, I’m happy to see March go. Already have two projects I’m really excited about so April is sure to be better!

  8. Kerry says:

With the move and all the stress and hassle that goes along with it, surprisingly you did well with your blocks! Lovely too!

Here I did 68 nine patch blocks. Making a dent in the 1.5″ scrap squares. I’ve almost run out of background squares! It has been very wet, sleety, haily, snowy and thundery. Most of last month!

  9. Ginny says:

Love all your blocks. For me a very Productive Month 148 blocks, More Piecing on a fill in quilt, made an 50th Anniversary except for the binding(under the needle as I type), 2 pieced market totes, plus some odds and ends. Bound the 3 quilts from last month. The big kicker it looks like we are moving to Stillwater, OK. Not a little move like yours is.

  10. Elizabeth Cunningham says:

I only managed 7 blocks this month.

  11. Randy Menninghaus says:

    51. probably more but I was inconsistent in writing them down. Got 4 donation quilts batted, backed quilted and bound….phew. I hate making binding, so yesterday I had a marathon scrappy binding binge and got purple blue and red binging made up.

  12. Diana S says:

You aren’t the only one who had trouble sewing in March. I did get a quilt bound and ready for donation. I did finally get 6 blocks made before March ended! Woke up in the middle of the night, couldn’t get back to sleep right away. So I know I will do better in April!!! I think I am getting my sewing mojo back, sure hope so have too many UFOs waiting not to mention things I want to make!!! So only 6 for the month but for the longest time I was afraid it was going to be a goose egg!!!!!

  13. Kelly Powers says:

I was able to sew 59 blocks during March. That included 30 blocks for charity quilts, 10 blocks for my sew-along quilt, an Easter mini quilt (2 blocks), and piecing together the blocks of my Wanderer’s Wife quilt with 1 1/2″ strips (counted this as 17 blocks). This one bogged me down for quite a while, but I think I’ll love it after it’s quilted and done.

  14. Cindy Wienstroer says:

Well slow month for me! Only one block for me but lots of prom dresses cleaned. Hope this month I can find my mojo too – so if you find yours, maybe mine is nearby. Had a friend ask me to help her make 2 quilts so it must come home.

  15. Deanna says:

It seems to me that your creative energy is alive and well, but focused in a different area. You have a lot going on. And it is creative. Be kind to yourself.

March added 57 blocks to my annual count.

  16. Fran says:

Wow! What gorgeous blocks! Congratulations on meeting your goal. This month I worked on appliqué blocks every day, but I was only able to finish 3 blocks. The good news is that I got the quilt top with the 20 appliquéd blocks and appliquéd border to the long arm quilter. Hopefully in April I can make pieced blocks and make my goal.

  17. Louise says:

I made 333 blocks in March. Many of them were simple 4 patches and rail fences. But I was able to sew all of them into 5 twin size quilts for grandkids. It was a very satisfying month.

  18. That pineapple block though…mighty pretty and it sure ain’t no nine-patch.
Your priorities are different right now, and probably will be until you get settled into your new home. It can take a while on each end. That packing and shedding things is a challenge enough.
I maxed out at 48 blocks. 3 Dalias made with ties, 20 pinwheels, 21 Ruby Pieced Hexies and 4 Ruby Pieced 1/2 Hexies. I’ll be glad to be done with these Red Hexies talk about red eye!

  19. Ceil Podzimek says:

My block total for March was 34 – 6 spring potholders for my bunko group prizes, 9 bucket hats (6 of which are going to my sisters and family in Louisiana), 10 more Tula Pink blocks for my Virtual Textile Community’s QAL, and 9 postcards, which were super fun and hard to stop making! Some of the postcards were for a 3 group (BVQG, VTC, and GQG, our sister guild in Glendale CA) swap that we were doing.

  20. Karen E. says:

I made 56 blocks in March for a YTD total of 111.

  21. PAULA M MO says:

So much for 40! I have 8 for March. I did have to pick one apart 2 times and still managed to get it wrong… So much for my word of the year….repeat. Not exactly what I had in mind! Still finding areas to downsize. 4 trips to my sister, Goodwill, and the Discovery Shop ( cancer society) I may not catch up to patchwork till June… on another note, have you ever used a mini leaf blower in the house for those hard to reach areas, like under the couch….man so much easier to use that, than moving that big heavy couch….I should of worn a mask , I will next time!

  22. 84 blocks in March for me bringing my total to 185 for the year.
It sounds to me like you got a lot done considering you lost your mojo and still did 38. I hope you get to feeling like yourself again soon. Those slumps are not fun, but they do pass.

  23. Paula Mu says:

I had 100 blocks this month. They are all for a pattern called Colour Squared. It is an Australian pattern I believe. I am behind on a lot of projects but hope to get caught up soon. Hope the move goes well.

  24. ChrisGG says:

My total was 53 this month which is a bit slow for me. Spending more time and energy outside weeding and cleaning up perennials etc. Will have more time to sew this summer when the heat and bugs keep me inside!

  25. Joan says:

140 blocks completed. Also handquilted one baby panel. The most fun project was making a handquilted doll quilt with four stuffed kittens to go with it–also from a panel, easy and quick!
I also challenged myself to use a new ruler I had purchased a long time ago–figured out how to make Swirly Pearly Buttons (a form of a pineapple block). This month I am onto challenging myself to use an orange peel ruler and more modern looking fabrics. These blocks are quick and easy (after some modifications to make the background a little bigger).
You have made some wonderful blocks this time–great patterns and colors. As you say they all take time, but definitely worth the effort and fun that goes along with it. Thanks for keeping us motivated!

  26. Moira says:

My total for this month was 35 for a mystery quilt with one my local guilds. But I did longarm and bind an outreach quilt, complete my daughter’s tote bag for her so-called portable loom (29×29.5×7.5!), and longarm a shoreline shells quilt (Whole Circle Studio) for a customer which is almost the same as making one myself 🙂

In the meeting last night a member showed her complete top for the Hills Quilt (Latifah Safir and Jennifer Sampou). It was lovely but my thoughts went to my own journey with that quilt — I bought the pattern and watched all the videos but didn’t sew a stitch! Oh well.

Enjoy your moving preparations — I’m a firm believer that everyone should either move or do a whole house renovations at least every seven years. It stops the clutter getting too out of control.

  27. Barbara B says:

    57 blocks in March.

  28. Marlene Clausen says:

37 blocks for a QOV that was cut and pieced in March. The rest of the month was Easter and birthday gifts and binding . . . lots of binding! But, I love doing it. Sitting and sewing down binding, even if I can’t find a single thing worth watching on Netflix!, is relaxing and I get finished quilts.

  29. KT says:

I finished 57 blocks in March, which surprised me. Hope to do as well in April.

  30. Kathi Benchley says:

Sometimes life just gets in the way!
I managed to complete 3 blocks in March. Not sure April will be any better!

  31. Sharon Gratz says:

An incredible 12 blocks in March. Not many, but some. 🙂

  32. Bev C. says:

    153 blocks for this month.
I’ve caught up. My quilt tops are now finished quilts! So I finished 3 quilts and made 3 project hugs shawls.
    Am now starting new projects…..yes!
Good luck down sizing. That has to be a HUGE challenge.

  33. Arlyn Parker says:

The pineapple block should count for more than 1 (maybe 10!)
I did more assembling than piecing this month, but did manage 80:
    Another baby quilt-64
    Hibernation-8
    Kaleidoscope-4 (Finished!!!)
    Log Cabin-4

  34. Judy Smith says:

I did better this month, lots of little nine patches for a Kim Diehl quilt. I had 109 blocks

  35. cathy k says:

I have been working on scrap blocks, 51 done. It didn’t seem to make a dent in the scraps. I will keep working on them this month.

  36. Marsha P says:

    5 blocks for me

  37. Suelynn Williams says:

No blocks to report for February and March. I am cutting fabric so when my machine returns from the shop I can sit down and sew (this twice a year for wobblin bobbin case since 2015 is getting old). Your pineapple blocks are cheerful.

  38. Debbi says:

I made 49 blocks in March. They were curved pieced for a little shamrock wall hanging and a sample block for challenge. I’ve been feeling really scattered in my sewing room these days and nothing is getting finished at all. It’s not really lack of mojo but loss of focus. I’m preparing for retreat next weekend so hopefully I’ll get back on track.

Hope you find your mojo. . Miss your posts…need those studio task reminders😁

  39. Sandy Hughes says:

I made 141 blocks in March. I made a quilt for my future daughter-in-law so it kept me busy in my sewing room….it helps it was an easy pattern too….a simple 9 patch.

  40. Mary Durham says:

I have 81 for March. Good luck with your move.

  41. Amanda says:

11 blocks were made in March!! I am so happy! I hope that you found your mojo again. I’ve been trying to spend at least 15 minutes a day on my embroidery blocks. I’m making progress but do get distracted by the 4 different projects I have going at the same time. Have you ever tried to color match floss with what your husband wants for chrome for the accessories on his truck blocks?! He got to pick it out so he is happy.

  42. Rose Marie Smith says:

I made a BIG number of blocks in March – 116. But I didn’t get it reported because I put everything away for a family get-together. More fun than making blocks!!!
All but three of the 116 were for community service quilts I am doing to use up scraps. All those decades of travel to big quilt shows sure did stock my stash!

  43. katie z. says:

    I made 130 blocks, for a total of 340.

    Way to go with downsizing!

  44. Diane O says:

85 blocks for the month. A friend and I exchanged making quilt tops for each other. She is making me Goodnight Star, a Judy Niemeyer pattern and I’m making her Rainy Days a pattern by Fat Quarter Friendly. She bought a kit with extra fabric. The original kit was for a quilt size 70″ x 82″, but she wanted it to be king size, at least 100″ x 100″. I got 24 of the 45 blocks made. They are flowers, blocks are 8″ x 16. It is vey unique. The other blocks were for 2 scrappy quilts. Love your pineapple blocks.

  45. christopher thomas says:

Hello there…..I hate doing all that packing and unpacking and trying to figure out what I want to keep what I need to keep and oh no I can not get rid of that lol…..

Well I had a good month, I have been helping 3 people learn to make a quilt so it has helped me stay in the studio a little more.

So my total for the month of march is 842

  46. Susan Siemens says:

I really enjoy looking at your blocks.
I made 29 double sided napkins. i hope to cut down on one use paper products and save a little money as well.
I made 5 placemats for Easter. Each of them had 48 pieces so I am thinking they will count as 2 blocks. so my total for March is only 10 blocks. i am hoping to do better in April but so far it hasnt happened .

  47. I made 64 blocks in March.

  48. Susanne Purvis says:

I made 46 blocks in March. Lots of coming and going last month. Hoping for >46 in April!!! 😀

  49. Danice G says:

4 blocks for me in March. I love your Made & Found bocks and pineapple block.

  50. Barb Magruder says:

I managed 43 blocks in March, but spent most of the month cutting our, not 1 but 2, Amish With A Twist quilt kits.
    Should have more in April!

  51. Stephanie says:

Sorry about the late report … I made 156 blocks in March. Across 5 different projects, plus random RSC ones.
