March 350 Blocks Report

Posted on March 31, 2023 by prairiemoonquilts in 350 Blocks Project

The whole first quarter of the year is gone already. How did that happen so fast?

March was kind of a blur for me — I had lots of deadlines, and was busy at the longarm more than at the sewing machine, so my block count barely made the monthly goal. I ended up with 33 blocks this month.

I did manage to finish one more of my Pineapple blocks. If I go any slower with these, I’ll be un-sewing! I was almost out of cut pieces, so I had to cut some more, which also slowed me down on the sewing part.

I made 24 four-patches, so what I did accomplish was pretty simple stuff this month.

I made a couple blocks for a Mystery quilt, which I can’t show you, obviously, because I can’t give away the mystery just yet.

But enough about me . . . how did YOU do in March?

Time to report in with your totals. I love hearing what you’re working on.

I have the Project page updated. Our new block goal for April is 28 blocks, for a new year-to-date total of 103. So many of you are way past that already!

The prize winner for February is Marilyn. She’s up to 33 blocks for the year so far.

I hope you all have a lovely month of April. Happy Stitching!

A big fat 0 for me this month. Lots of block parts but no completed blocks. Too much going on with ourside work and spending more time with our old pup. She’s given us a few scares this month. Tiki will be 18 the end of April. That is very old for a Standard Poodle. Hee cataracts are really bad and she has some mobility issues. Plus if Daddy isn’t home she wants to.lnow where Iam at all times. Makes it hard to gave any uninterrupted tome sewing! But she’s worth it!

  5. Wendy says:

I’m straggling in with only 14 blocks this month. Not exactly sure what I have been doing – ha!

  11. Louise R says:

A big fat zero again for me this month. I have been making lots of blocks, but I don’t count them until I get the top made. So, April ought to be a great month.

  12. Judy Smith says:

44 blocks this month. I started on that graduation quilt. May graduations will be here before we know it.

  13. Marsha Parkhill says:

54 blocks for me after 0 in Feb.

I really love that pineapple block! I hung a log cabin quilt in my dining room early this month and now two people who are here frequently have started their own. I think it’s such a versatile block. I made 103 blocks in March for a YTD total of 363. Happy April!

  15. KT says:

Only 25 blocks for me this month. Hopefully I’ll do better in April. Love your pineapple block! Lots of pieces in that one.

  16. Kathy P says:

I struggled to sew anything this month. Just 5 block for me. I did get new furniture for my sewing studio so I’ve been busy getting organized.

  17. Marcia in TX says:

71 basket weave blocks this month.

  18. Suelynn Williams says:

This was a good month for me. I had 150 blocks, several of which were very complicated.

  20. Moira says:

I completed a total of 32 blocks this month — a big improvement on the 1 I managed last month.

  21. March was a blur for me as well, and April and May will be also! Gah! Have never made that block but someday! Looks fun! 106 blocks in March for me.
Hoping April will be better but lots going on.

  22. Paula M Mo says:

Sadly one block complete…well, I did enjoy my company, so only sad no sewing time this month. Other than Easter, I should be able to get a few complete in April, considering the fabric has been pulled, sorted and ironed for a for a few week now!

  23. Ginabeth says:

    I have been making a couple Sew-alongs,
the Scrappy Celebration from APQ and
Sewcialites 2 from Fat Quart Shop.
Did 28 embroideries on the 365 Therapy panel.

    So I had 112.

So wonderful that you are still doing this📍

  24. Joan says:

72 blocks this month. The most complicated one was a clamshell 12 inch block in 40+ shades of green for an Irish quilt I am making. I’ve worked on this on St. Patrick’s Day for several years–so good to have it done! Great pineapple block–fun to see that.

  25. Chris Guenther says:

I was fairly productive: 131 blocks for me. It’s a good thing since I’m anticipating April to be slower. Now that it’s warming up, I’ll be working outside more. ChrisGG

  26. Deanna says:

March added 66 blocks. Total for year 325. April will probably be about the same number of blocks, but a LOT of finishes, I hope.

  27. Tanya says:

My foot is healing so I am back at work. Unfortunately not as much sewing time as last month. I got all my scrappy pineapple blocks done for two donation baby quilts. Quilted and bound my Sand and Surf king size quilt for us. I started a wall hanging for the local fair contest using the trailing star block. The theme for the fair is Summer’s Biggest Party, Bursting at the Seams! Always fun to start a new project. My block total for March is 92. Happy Spring to you all🌼

  28. Cindy Wienstroer says:

Very low count for me this month – only 3 simple blocks for a table runner. Too busy with prom dresses. Hope April will be better!

  29. Carissa says:

Sounds like you had a busy month. The rest of the process is important too, not just the making of blocks!

I made 66 blocks this month. I have a big finish to get ready for the middle of April, and then plenty of blocks to work on after that, so I will have plenty to keep me busy!

  30. Rose Marie Smith says:

I had a fairly quiet month. I was able to piece 65 blocks. Two quilts (one all pieced and one just begun) were the big numbers. I made some table runners to use up scraps!! That is my version of workroom clean-up. But I could make quite a few more scrappy quilts that would be clean-up, but don’t have a place for them to go right now so not doing that right now. I am growing into those old years……..physically pretty well, but mind may be leaving! LOL

  31. Marlene Clausen says:

Well, I finally did some piecing! 30 for a QOV and 50 for Emma’s Star (Pleasant Valley Creations) from a Kaffe Fassett jelly roll. I am crazy about that one and am keeping it for my summer bed quilt. Emma was designed by my very first quilt teacher and now long-time friend. I don’t often make a quilt pattern more than once; but, find myself going back to this one often. I love your Pineapple block and that is probably my favorite classic quilt block.

  32. Debbi says:

I had a much better month than expected…part of that is adding the 36 leader-enders that I finished and sewed together. Just love how a quilt gets made magically with those. I also found an old ufo that I made 44 more curved blocks for…now to get that together! 12 blocks for a quilt I thought I was going to return to stash but found them cut out 🤪,8 blocks for a spring wall hanging, 3 log cabin blocks and 4 blast from the past blocks. I’m looking forward to getting the BFP wrapped up this month. Guess that explains why my bathroom didn’t get finished😂

  33. Beverly Hovis says:

I have 22 blocks for March!

Thanks to our Sleep at Home 3 day Retreat! A great way to get lots done and fun.

( We used a church rec hall that was locked up at night.
People came and went as they wanted. )

  34. YAY for quilt retreats…while I spent the first half putting together blocks I’d already made (for a king sized quilt), I did get 61 new blocks made the second half!

  35. Paula Mu in NE OH says:

This was a better month for me. As always I had lots of things I worked on: 3 Riley Blake Mystery, 1 Sherry MC BOM, 13 Scrappy Spools, 18 Unraveled, 64 No Bake, 2 Clover, 20 Puddle Jumper, and 44 Star Flower blocks. I had 165 if I counted correctly.

  36. Ginny says:

Total for March is 58 blocks. and lots of sewing and other things that keep my hands busy but not blocks. 48 of those blocks are a quilt that is going to the quilter this week. total of 130 blocks in that top but don’t know how to count the blocks that are just cut as squares and used that way. A lot better than last months 0 blocks. The pineapple block is beautiful. Lookin g forward to seeing it completed.

  37. Barb Roberts says:

My March total is 62. Thanks Shelly!

  38. Clara says:

16 blocks for March and a completed quilt top that’s off to the longarm quilter. A block of the month finished and a new one is beginning–it feels good to sew!

  49. Marilyn Holder says:

Total for March: 53. Participated in Pat Sloan’s BLOCK A DAY for March. Easy block but sewed 36 (more than one a day) and now ready for border. A collection was sitting there shouting PICK ME and I did! Finished and back to the other ufo. Two are on the list to complete.
Pretty pineapple block — lots of strips to be ready to sew.
I am excited to be a winner for February!

    • Marilyn Holder says:

Thank you for the surprise package in the mail. This blue thread is a great blue. This fun fabric I have not seen…maybe I will add more and make a YELLOW BRICK ROAD! Onward to finish more projects.
      Hugs, Marilyn

  51. Danice says:

Your pineapple block is really pretty. I actually completed 48 blocks in March.

  52. Linda Knight says:

I quilted and bound 4 quilts and rehabbed an old quilt for a daughter-in-law. I just did enough to hold it together for her to decorate with. I started pieces for a new quilt but didn’t finish any blocks yet, just the pieces for the blocks. Finished up the month with a visit with my brothers and cousin in Oklahoma.

  53. Barb Magruder says:

I had a pretty good month in March. We had a quilting retreat and so with all included, I had 146 blocks!

  54. Phillis Harding says:

I managed to get 421 blocks made all from scraps. I need to find time to get these together and quilted; just not in the mood at the moment so will continue to piece blocks. Still have lots of scraps to play in.
