Maple Leaf Quilt-Along Wrap-up

Posted on October 25, 2021 by prairiemoonquilts in Brunswick Forest

Well, we’re at the end of the formal part of this quilt-along. Have you chosen a layout for your leaves?

I’m still going with my original decision — I’m doing the throw version of Layout #1. But I have a lot more leaves to make. I’ll be using the leaves as my leader/ender project for the foreseeable future. I cut them out 10 at a time, then when I run out, I cut some more. The pile is slowly getting bigger. And every once in awhile, I’ll sew some of them into a larger block like this one:

I’ll eventually get done, and it’ll be a lovely scrap quilt.

I have loved hearing about your ideas for what you’ll do with yours. I’ve also enjoyed looking at your piles of leaves growing . . .

Here are the ones I’ve received so far:

From Helen:

From Cindy:

Thanks so much for sharing what you’ve got going on! I just love all the colors!

If you are making leaves and have some to share, please send in your picture — you can email it to me at shelly@prairiemoonquilts.com — I’ll give everyone a few more days to submit photos, and then I’ll draw for a prize-winner from among all those who submitted photos, and send one of you a little goodie! I’ll draw for a winner on Friday, the 29th.

Thanks so much to everyone who played along . . . I hope you had fun, got a bit inspired, and enjoyed making leaves during fall. Most of all, I hope you’ll eventually end up with a project you love!

UPDATE:

Here are a few more leaves from Cindy — I love the bright colors!

And the prize winner is Helen! Thanks to everyone for playing along in the quilt-along.

All those leaves in fall colors! Beautiful! I love your block Shelly, gives me inspiration to use all those tans I have and don’t usually choose. Keeping myself in check right now tho as I have way too many projects going and I am doing a big reorganization of my sewing space and storage to help reduce my overwhelm when I’m in there. Love leader/Enders!

Debbi, I have been bitten by the same bug to reorganize hoping I feel a bit less overwhelmed when I am done! I’m feeling better in my sewing room, then when I walk into my quilting room, I see at least a week in there to get it back into shape. Good luck on your re-organization! And good-bye to that overwhelmed feeling.

They are all so pretty! I think I have a grand total of 5 so far but haven’t spent much time at the sewing machine. I’m in hopes of having more time to sew now but who knows. I’ve been trying to enjoy the sunshine whenever we have it since where I’m at we’ve also been getting a lot of rain. 5.5″ in 24 hours and more forecast for tomorrow. I may have to dig out my kayak!

It’s wonderful to see all the different fabric choices made by everyone. I am collecting my leaves in a basket until I decide what to make. I think coasters would be very cute!

What gorgeous leaves! It’s lovely to see what others are making. I’m enjoying sewing these, slowly but steadily adding more, now up to 18, and still not sure what they’ll become. Maybe a table runner or a pair of cushions – don’t think I’ll get as far as a throw! Thank you for all the setting suggestions, they are really helpful. Looking forward to a picture of your finished throw one day!
