Maple Leaf Quilt-Along, Step 6

Posted on October 18, 2021 by prairiemoonquilts in Brunswick Forest

I’m back today with our final layout option! Altho, I’m sure you can think of many more on your own. It will all depend on how many leaves you feel like making. Some of you have had great ideas about incorporating the leaves into scrap quilts you already have going on, which is a fabulous idea!

Here are a few that Cindy has made — she has hand pieced about 20 leaves, and plans to make more by machine!

I’ve been cutting mine out 10 at a time, then when I run out of pieces to sew, I cut some more. Several more sessions of that, and I’ll have enough for my quilt!

The final layout I’m presenting is for a 44″ square medallion quilt:

My sample version uses a block from the Brunswick Forest pattern as the center, but you can substitute something else into the center if you don’t have the Brunswick Forest pattern.

You can also add more leaves to the corners to make it larger, or add more leaves to the top and bottom to make it fit a bed. Lots of options! Just the way I like it.

You can download this layout and cutting instructions here: MapleLeafLayout4

So . . . I hope you’ve found a layout you like, or have come up with a layout of your own for all your leaves. Next week, I’ll do a wrap-up post for the quilt-along. If you have pictures of your leaves, or a finished project, please send them in, and I will feature them all in the wrap-up post. You can email the photos to me at shelly@prairiemoonquilts.com and I may do a give-away among everyone who has something to show from the quilt-along!

I hope you’re having a lovely fall!

  1. Great layout for this quilt! I’m still thinking about making the leaf blocks…haven’t actually made any yet. But there’s still time, right? On the bright side, I’m working diligently on a UFO which I believe I will finish soon. Your UFO challenge has been responsible for my finishing a couple of quilt tops and on the way to finishing my current project. Those UFO Challenge sheets are such a great way to see all my projects at a glance, making it easy to choose the next one. In the meantime, it’s been fun to watch your progress on this.

Love this layout and will keep it for future Autumn quilt. For now, I’ve designed something I like for my eight little leaves. That is as autumn-y as I am going to get this year. Just too much other things taking my time and attention.
