Making Little Things

Our guild is having a handmade bazaar at this year’s Brunswick Pecan Festival (this weekend in Brunswick, MO), and members are making handmade items to put in the booth so we can raise a little money for the guild.
If you’re anywhere in the vicinity of Brunswick, MO, this Saturday (October 6th), you might otta come to the Pecan Festival — it’s a jam-packed day of lots of fun stuff to see and do (and eat). The main street through town is lined on both sides with vendors selling all kinds of stuff. LOTS of vendors. ALL kinds of stuff.
There’s a parade at 2:00, and all sorts of other things going on. I’m always amazed at how many people that little town packs in for this day! And it’s so much fun. I can’t wait to get myself a caramel-pecan apple!
For my part of our booth, I’m still working on a couple random things to donate, but mostly I made zipper pouches and these cute pencil cases that can be put into a 3-ring binder.
I love these, and may have to make more just so I can keep one for myself!

It’s a free online tutorial, and there’s two iterations of this pouch — one that clips on (to a backpack or a purse or whatever), and these that have the grommets for a binder.
And then I made a couple of zipper pouches like this, also from a free online tutorial which is no longer available now, but there are plenty of zipper pouch tutorials to be found if you just search.
I will probably also be making more of these in lots of different sizes and fabrics. They’re fast and fun, and can anyone ever have too many zipper pouches?
And speaking of things to donate, our guild donates a lot of Comfort Quilts when the need arises, and I recently saw these two great lists of quilts made from jelly rolls. Most of these would be really quick to make and would be great for Comfort quilts!
They would also make great gift quilts, and I might even be tempted to make one just for myself! Check them out and see what you think.

My family went to Brunswick for many years to pick up pecans. Then we spent lots of time during the winter picking out the meats to use in pies and cookies. Your post about a pecan festival there brought back such great memories!

The festival sounds fun. I might even like to try a caramel pecan apple (yum). We just finished our annual festival here – the Defeat of Jesse James Days. It’s a big deal around here, with food, fun, craft fairs and more. All of your little projects look great! Those pencil cases would be handy!
These are all great! I like making pouches for myself, always can use more in various sizes, and they’re perfect little gifts to keep on hand. Mine are all vinyl on the front, but I like the idea of mesh as well.
