Mad Dash Sew-Along, Week 3

Posted on April 20, 2022 by prairiemoonquilts in Mad Dash

I know I was supposed to post this on Monday, but it’s been a crazy week here. Evidently, it’s deadline season, and I only just realized it! I think it’s because time gets away from me, and I always think I have more than is actually available.

Or maybe it’s because I’m so slow these days that things are just piling up faster than I can take care of them, both personally and with quilting!

Anyway, I’m finally taking some time to get on the computer and do a check-in post. I’m not adding any extra instructions or sewing this time. We’re still supposed to be working on that stockpile of blocks we’ll be using later on. How are you doing with those?

I have some of each color in each size made, but I’m not moving along super fast with any of them.

I’m just hoping to have enough done to do a section when the time rolls around, and meanwhile, I just keep chipping away at them — cut a few, sew a few, cut a few, sew a few. I think my sister is nearly done with all of her blocks in one of her colors — she’s always been an overachiever like that!

Don’t forget: As you’re cutting, save your scraps to use for filler pieces later on. You may not have enough to cut a block from, but it might work for some filler, and you can use up those little pieces.

Since my bin holds my fabrics . . .

and the lid to my bin is holding my cut pieces . . .

I needed a place to put my finished blocks. I put them in here for now, but I think it’s not gonna be big enough, or allow me to sort them by size/type/color neatly enough, so I think I’ll be breaking out some ziplock baggies to help keep things sorted.

So that’s been my Mad Dash activity lately. How are you getting along with yours?

Next week, I’ll be talking about some of the partial blocks — it won’t add anything drastic to what you’re already doing, but could give you a way to use up some even smaller scraps, so stay tuned!

And keep making that stockpile of blocks! I still have a ways to go.

Funny – I almost chose the same colors!

I switched it over and over and over and….
Still haven’t committed . I need to get going!

I am still chugging away on the background blocks in gray. I have all the big ones done. I am almost done with the tiny gray ones. Hope to be cutting out the red ones by next week. 🤞

This looks like so much fun! I love your colors. I met some friends today for the first time in over two years…we walked in a new park nearby which is next to a home/pen with goats. The babies were adorable, and of course, I thought of you!

Sad to say that I haven’t got started yet. Too many other obligations. It will happen though!

I’ve just got my 6″ blocks done. I was feeling pretty good until I read how many 3″ blocks there were to do.

I am not doing very good with my blocks. Life is getting in the way. I do not like sewing 3 inch blocks. Oh well a few at a time.

I didn’t join you for this one, love seeing your progress. Great idea on using the top of the lid for additional pieces.

Oh I so wanted to join in with this but reality has hit and it’s not going to hapen! It will have to be an ‘another time’ project.
