Mad Dash Sew-Along, Week 10

Week 10 already? I can’t understand how that happens. I feel like Rip van Winkle!

I need to start sewing faster. My stockpile isn’t large enough to suit me, so I haven’t begun my assembly yet.

But in spite of that, I’m here today with a couple of hopefully helpful tips for Section Two.

This section does not use any of the special templates, so it’s a lot easier, but it DOES use up some of your 1/3-2/3 blocks. What I’d like to point out as you sew these into your sections, is that you need to pay really close attention to how you have them turned.

They need to match up so that when the sections are sewn together, they form a complete churn dash block, like this:

If you have part of it turned wrong, it won’t form the block, and it’ll look funny. I’d wager that in the grand scheme of things, no one would really notice in the finished quilt, since it’s so busy, but still . . . things like that bother me, so I wanted to make sure you are fore-warned to pay close attention to the orientation of those blocks in the setting.

I do have my filler strips cut for this section. I once again raided my pre-cut scraps and my block leftovers to cut the filler pieces so I’d have even more variety in my prints.

My best advice for Section Two is to lay everything out really carefully according to the diagrams, and when you pick up pieces to sew them together, make sure you don’t accidentally turn them incorrectly, so check each step as you complete it to make sure it looks like it should.

Just follow the steps in order, checking off those bubbles as you go, and you should be fine! I’m really excited to see your quilts coming together, and I need to step up the action on mine. Hopefully, I’ll get a lot more done this week.

I’ve made some nice progress with the blocks. All 6″ background is done and 34 3″. I am going to start on some of the block blocks, my yellow. I’m still picking up fabrics to make it scrapie. I see something and think that would be great. In fact, I’m going to make a few more pink because the fabric was just too good to pass up. When I get done , I will have enough pink and yellow for another quilt. Instead of using scraps up, mine are growing! Oh well, it’s fun!
