Kansas City Regional Quilt Festival

I spent last Thursday and Friday at the Kansas City Regional Quilt Festival, and let me just say right here at the start that it was the most fun I’ve had at a quilt show in a long time!

I went with my friends Linda, Norma, and Janet, and I don’t know about them, but I sure had a blast!

There were well over 100 vendors to shop with, lots and lots of classes to choose from, demos, special exhibits, and a juried and judged quilt show. All organized and run by volunteers from Kansas City area quilt guilds — phenomenal!

I didn’t take any classes, and I wasn’t teaching or presenting — I just got to wander all the aisles at my leisure, looking at the quilts and shopping, and I saw soooo many of my friends there — it was just fun all around. And . . .

The quilts were absolutely gorgeous!

There were TWO “Hazel’s Diary” quilts on display. This black version was made by Wilma Lamfers, and I’m ga-ga over it!

Wilma had sent me this photo of it from when she showed it to her guild after first completing it. I’m so happy I got to see it up close and in person!

It was expertly quilted by Ida Houston:

Look how she put little bees in the quilting!

The other “Hazel’s Diary” quilt was made by JoAnn Borchelt, and it’s an ever-so-slightly softer-looking version of the quilt shown in the book. I love it, too!

It was very wonderfully quilted by Jane Bromberg.

My friend, Klonda, entered her Brunswick Sampler quilt, made from my pattern, and got a third-place ribbon on it! It was so beautifully quilted by Dorie Hruska.

And here’s a quilt made by Susan Tuttle that I just fell in love with. The patterns are from Tula Pink’s book, “City Sampler: 100 Modern Quilt Blocks“. I love Susan’s color scheme and setting.

And I also love the quilting, which was fabulously executed by Tia Curtis, who I got to meet while I was at the show! I didn’t get any close-up photos of it, but trust me — it’s fabulous!

Here’s another quilt I fell in love with. This one was from the challenge exhibit, and was made by Sara Chappell, and quilted by Lori Kukuk. I love everything about this quilt!

The art quilting group I’m a member of, The Rambling River Art Quilters, had a quilt in the show. Our newest piece, Under the Sea, was on display:

And a fellow member of the group, Cheri Rabourn, had asked me to quilt a quilt for her a while back, and it was in the show, too — Springtime Under the Redbud Canopy — and it got a third-place ribbon!!!

If you’re from the Kansas City area . . .
Did you get to go to the show?
What did you think of it?
Did you do lots of shopping?

I, for one, am really excited about the next one, coming in 2019!

I love going to quilt shows. Thanks for my 350 block gift . It arrived. Husband looked at the envelope and I said ” This isn’t another fabric buy…it is a prize” Lots of packages from various internet buys have been arriving lately… er ah…

I went to the show, took a class and escorted my daughter around the show telling her so much about my friends and acquaintances in Missouri who quilt. It was so special. And Shelly, I didn’t get to see the Springtime under the Redbud Canopy quilt. I’m pouting in disappointment.

Just found your blog – love it! So, another one to follow – does the inspiration I get from blogs make up for the time lost to spend quilting? ? ?
