June 350 Blocks Report

Posted on June 30, 2020 by prairiemoonquilts in 350 Blocks Project

It’s a good thing I was a bit ahead of the game, because this month was a fizzled attempt at making blocks.

Most of the sewing I did was assembly of already-created blocks, but I guess that has to happen at some point, too, or nothing would ever get done! I also spent extra time at the longarm, trying to get caught up. We’ve had storms, and ranch stuff, and a myriad of other interruptions. I’m ready for some smooth sailing — fingers crossed that July stays nice and calm!

I made TWO blocks this month. One was a simple nine-patch that I don’t have a picture of. The other was this Wagon Wheel block that I made as a sample for my tutorial HERE. I truly love this block so much, that now I’m thinking of making a whole bunch more to have an entire quilt of them. Did I just start something new for the first time this year???? Yikes!

It’s OK. My streak was destined to end, anyway. I made it almost 6 months, which is a record for me. I’ve started work on the new Block-of-the-Month for Sew Sweet Quilt Shop that will start in September. Here are this year’s color ways. Traditional on the left — blacks, grays, creams, the farmhouse look. Modern on the right — Jen Kingwell fabrics — ’nuff said! The quilts will be unveiled in August. I can’t wait to show them to you!

And now it’s your turn to report in with your June block totals. How did you do? Be sure to leave your comment or contact me to give me your update. You can check the Project Page HERE.

Our new total for July is 31 blocks, for a year-to-date total of 197. We’re starting the second half of the year! Woohoo!

Our prize winner for May is Karrin H. — she’s up to 456 already!

And I want to say thank you to everyone who has sent me a signature block so far. I’ve tried to thank you all individually by email, but I don’t have everyone’s email address, so if you did not hear from me directly, THANK YOU! I’ve collected 55 blocks so far! I’m thinking I might start sewing them together, altho I need a LOT more blocks yet.  So if you haven’t made me one yet, and want to, please do! I will still be collecting for a long time. You can find the tutorial HERE.

Happy Stitching, and have a wonderful Independence Day weekend!

This was not my month for making blocks either. I made only 64. I think I made almost that many masks. Like you, I did assemble many already created blocks.

  2. Maxine E says:

56 blocks for me. I had a few days of no sewing due to allergies. Sneezing and rotary blades and a sewing machine really do not mix well! Also had family here for a few days! So no sewing was done on those days either just a lot of laughing and eating and drinking! But I did finish that quilt that I was rushing to finish in time for my Sister In Law! She was surprised and really loved it!

  3. Cathy Wight says:

I had a pretty good block month in June as I was making 2 quilts for thank you gifts as well as more paper pieced block for my eventual pumpkin quilt. So my total for June was 78!

  4. Diane says:

My total block count for June is 26. 21 of them are from plaid stratas that I had from bunches of years ago, and 5 are from the Star Kissed Quilt A Long. Hoping to do much better in July as I start 100Blocks100Days on the 1st…Oh my is that tomorrow? Yup that’s tomorrow!

  5. Love your wagon wheel block. I can see how you wouldn’t be able to stop at 1. This month’s total for me was 31 blocks.

  6. KT says:

I finished 20 blocks in June. Did finish the baby quilt, but the graduation quilt is still waiting to be quilted. Hopefully I will get it done this month!

  7. 12 blocks, boohoo. Too bad I can’t count the stuffed animals I’ve been repairing for my sweet little grandson. His cat (recently departed, may he rest in peace) loved to chew those little critters. Now that he has left us, it’s safe to repair the animals. I’ve also been finishing quilts and adding labels, and I’m feeling good about that.

  8. Marsha Parkhill says:

31 blocks for me for June

  9. Debbi says:

12 blocks for me. But I’ve also assembled the quilt and made the backing and binding so it’s now in the quilting que. Pretty happy about that I don’t see it lingering on as a ufo.

  10. Louise says:

106 blocks for me this month. I have been doing more counted cross stitch and finishing a few quilts. So, I am very pleased with my progress for the month. I really enjoy setting a goal for myself and then keeping track to make sure I accomplish the goals I set. So, thank you for organizing this block reporting. It really helps me to stay on track.

  11. Deanna says:

June brought 70 blocks. It is mostly due to the sudden attack of wedding quilts. What is it about 2020? That is 308 blocks for the year and the fourth wedding quilt.

  12. Marcia in TX says:

I did 32 blocks this month, 2 for you and 30 from an old kit called city lights. Actually totally finished that quilt this morning… Yea, a ufo down. The bock you did is really pretty.
I hope next month is brighter in your life.

  13. Sally H says:

Only 64 blocks this month, all Twirla blocks. Spending more time in the garden, but did get two quilts quilted.

  14. Rose Marie Smith says:

Jen Kingwell!!!! OH my, that would be wonderful. OH, no, more block of the months. Oh wait. It will be okay.

  18. Julie M. says:

36 blocks for the month of June. I’ve started zoom quilt meetings with the guild. That has been so much fun and helping to get motivated from others! Hope July is a better month for you and love your block!

  19. Karen E. says:

I love the wagon wheel block! I made 184 blocks in June. I’m having a hard time believing half the year is over already. The heat and humidity we’ve begun to have keeps me inside; hopefully I can get another thousand blocks made. Everyone have a safe Fourth!

  20. Debi F says:

So. Many. 3.5” blocks! I must be crazy, but let me check… yup! Through and through! But crazy lady did get 38 blocks done, and quilted 2 quilts. Thank you Zoom friends for motivation!

  21. Stephanie says:

52 blocks for me. A set of 20, a set of 24, and a quilt top of squares with 8 rows (=8 blocks). I did your “eradicate a pile”, except that it was a drawer. 3 quilts, front and back from that drawer, now empty. Happy Dance!

  22. Amanda M. says:

I was hoping to get more sewing done in June but that didn’t happen. I did get a mere 16 blocks done for 5 different projects. I did make a dent in the to be quilted pile!! I also moved sewing locations and I have projects in piles spread out but I’m hoping to get a lot done with each pile. It’s hard to believe July begins tomorrow; as an old neighbor used to say, wintertime is just around the corner.

  23. Diana S says:

Looks like you and I had the same kind of month Shelly. 2 blocks and some finishes! My 2 blocks were the Comfort and Blessing quilt I have been trying to keep up with. Definitely behind now but I refuse to put it away. I did tackle 2 containers of scraps that needed to be cut into useable pieces. There’s more to cut but am done for the time being! Love your wagon wheel block

  24. Paula Mo says:

I have 21 blocks a mixture of block of the month and random 15 min of play. Still organizing and clearing of excess. Tension issues most of the month, time for a tune up!!!

  25. Angela Neese says:

Big fat zero for me this month! Between ranch chores and the garden and mask sewing….. I know, a poor excuse is better than none at all…. planning to send you a signature block this month. Is it OK to embroider instead of use a pen?? Thanks for all your encouragement along the way.

  26. sharonG says:

    sharon G

My total for June is 57 blocks
I really like the wagon wheel block and I have a vintage trim ? bolt of black rickrack-ish from the collection of a friend’s mother–I am going to try at least one
because , I really NEED a new project

  27. Angela says:

I completed 128 blocks in June (one was your little signature block).
    Enjoy your holiday weekend! 🇺🇸

  28. I finished 50 blocks this month. I’m one that does not count them until they are finished. So, I really did more than that, but until I finish the quilts, they don’t count for me.

  29. Wanda Marvel says:

    5 blocks

  30. That Dresden block is too cute. Love the rick rack on it.
My month only had me doing 42 blocks. I am doing another QAL, made bean bag chairs for my granddaughters and am busy with projects for some upcoming blog hop projects.

  31. And my total for the yard is 562.5 😉 Carol

  32. Suelynn Williams says:

I’m surprised my total was 37 for the second month in a row! I sewed almost every day! I finished my first UFO this year, and today I will sew bias binding to a curved border. I love seeing your blocks, Shelly.

  33. So glad to see Karrin win! I did a little better this month with 17 added for a total of 146, I think. Susan N. in TN

  34. Barbara B says:

    Only 20 blocks in June

  35. Elle says:

My June total is 245! I have not been tracking an ongoing total ;-(

I was focused on a quilting and binding marathon. I hand stitch my bindings and managed 13 finishes. Wohoo!

  36. Deana says:

Deana J made 60 blocks in June for a year to date total of 182. I am beginning to catch up!

  37. Deana says:

Your wagon wheel block is beautiful! I recognize the background fabric and have used it myself.

  38. Christi Bentley says:

I had 224 blocks this month. A handful were done with my daughter on a quilt she designed. She definitely wanted hers counted and helped keep the count going this month.

  39. Put me down for 29. Spent more time quilting a UFO – almost done. Also have a secret quilt I’m working on – that produced a few blocks and are in the total for the month. Here’s to a calm July for you.

  40. Dianne says:

Didn’t think I did that much till I added it up….142 for the month of June

  41. Janet D says:

I guess I missed May, that’s ok, April was long enough for both months! I made 16 blocks.

  42. denniele says:

Great Wagon Wheel block…..love the rick rack! I had blocks this month! 85 to add to my total.
Congrats on making it 6 months without a new project…..impressive!!!

  43. Shirley B says:

I had a total of 45 house blocks for the month and then got the top completed. I have to complete the border. I love this cheerful quilt!

  44. Ginny says:

Short month, long month. 10 blocks along with binding a quilt. Harold had surgery and family visited. not sure July will be any better. 8 of my blocks are a center for a queen quilt that needs borders yet.

  45. Barb Roberts says:

I managed 96 blocks this month, more than I thought. Started a few new things but they were small projects and most are finished. Joined a couple sew alongs because I couldn’t help myself! 😉

  46. Marlene Clausen says:

121 Blocks for June. But . . . I had all these great plans for “projects” for June. Just clear off a “few” odds and ends on my cutting and sewing table, wrap some fabric to put in the new cubbies, and I could “get to it.” I almost made it . . . but, Wait!! It’s July!! What happened to June?

  47. Mary D. says:

I had 51 for June. I finally finished my Village houses and made some trees to go with them. Now it’s in rows, but not put together. I also made a simple quilt for my grandson, Carter, who was born a couple of weeks ago.

  48. Randy Menninghaus says:

36! I finally found a way to not lose my list of blocks…. I put a rectangle of masking tape on the front right bed of my machine ( low stick) wrote the month and used 1111
and across. My early months were craop cause I kept losing my list lol….

  49. Joan says:

84 blocks done. Three baby quilt tops done–yeah! Now I need to quilt them… Thanks for keeping us motivated.
Like your fabric selections for your upcoming block of the month.

  50. Raewyn says:

A meagre nine blocks for me – can I say that three of those were very involved blocks…including a hand applique one that took me about a week of evenings to stitch?!!! Hopefully July will be a little more productive! I do love the start of your new quilt – well done lasting 6 months before starting something new!

  51. Peggy says:

Once again no sewing of any kind this month. Did get a lot of yardwork, including tree trimming to make mowing easier. Built 2 small wooden benches to sit on or use as tables, and rewebbed 2 aluminum lawn chairs for the second time in their 30+ years life! Been trying to rest in the meantime…seems the heat/humidity/bugs are even more disagreeable this year. When I’m in the ac I just want to lie down and shut my eyes. I do miss sewing; maybe the month of July.

  52. Debra Freese says:

53 for me this month. At least 4 different projects.

  53. Debra Freese says:

    53 for me!

  54. I got 33 made this month. Thanks so much for the the prize!

  55. Beverly says:

Well I have been very consistent with another zero for June. Still working on straightening up sewing room, making masks, and working on baby quilt that took much longer than it should have. I finished it in July. Hopefully I will get a few blocks done in July. I also have a few other projects to do in July for my trailer. I am working on planning a scrap quilt. I have several blocks cut.
I love looking at your pictures. It does help motivate me.

  56. Sherry V says:

    Hi Shelly

I really like your block…it is very striking.

I had a pretty good month….I was able to get a total of 65 blocks. Finished two quilt tops and added more blocks to long term projects.

Thank you again for the April prize…it is on my “to do” list.

  57. Kerry says:

Only 26 this time – because it rained and I’ve been putting the 4 sets of blocks together as I go. The bed is getting more of a covering. I’m going to have to hide it all away as my daughter and other half are visiting next weekend. It is going to be really difficult as we still have to keep our distances and no hugging allowed. That makes me so upset – easier not to have them here, especially as we are still fairly isolated and they have been working in towns near where they live. 🙁

  58. Joy Dabney says:

Sadly no blocks for me in June. The garden and outside kept me busy. I did knit on some socks.

  59. Clara says:

June was a very busy month and “flew by”. Only 8 blocks sewn. I did, however, complete a quilt top from previous month’s block count.
Happy 4th to you and your cowboy!!

  60. Michele says:

I had 64 blocks in June.

  61. Marsha Y. says:

Total of 52 blocks this month. Finished piecing, quilting and gifting a king size quilt to granddaughter. still working on a king size quilt that I started over a year ago. Hope to finish it this month, although I have several quilts for customers to quilt. I love your wagon wheel block.

  62. Cheryl says:

I made 326 blocks in June and took four quilts to be quilted.

  63. Danice says:

I made seven blocks in June. Hoping for more in July.

  64. Betty K says:

53 blocks for June. That is more than I realized that I had made.

  65. Pam M says:

0 blocks in June. put 2 quilts together.
    Pam

  66. christopher thomas says:

Boy am i behind on reporting in to the quilt blocks

for may I did 100 blocks to finish up a quilt for a friend of mine out of is clothes

still working on masks in may and june

for june i have 126 quilt blocks

it has been crazy around here

found out that there was termits in the basment and tore everything out of there and been putting it back together

the fridge was leaking and had to rip out all the flooring and put new down and you know then i had to paint the wall and now the living room looks bad so working on that as well as i iam still working in the basment

so the total on masks is

    3280 masks made all together
    480 yards of fabris
    6800 yards of thread
    6560 yards of ribbon
started on my second box of pre wound bobbins

So all in all it have been a crazy couple of months

  67. Susan says:

I like your wagon wheel block! I only made one quilt top in June, 42 blocks but it’s all sashed and has cornerstones. Did a lot of other sewing but can’t count it towards blocks, self binding receiving blankets, bibs, pillowcases, potholders etc. July is proving to be even slower

  68. Paula Mu says:

If it is not to late to post my June block numbers, here they are. I had 55 blocks in June. Baskets and Blooms -4, Signature block – 1, Silver linings -4, Moda flowers – 3, Scrappy Quilt-Along -12, Bloom blocks – 30, Pineapple -1. Sorry I didn’t get this in sooner, but a 42 inch water line broke on the street and the sewer in the basement baked up 32 inches of water in the basement. That happened at 1:45 am on the 5th of July. 50% of my stash was wet after the water went down. I have been drying it, but all appliances in the basement were ruined, so I am using clothes lines all over the yard, and thinking friends. It will be rewashed when I get a washer. I had about 50 plastic sweater boxes that were wet.
