January Studio Organizing, Task Two

So . . . How many things were you able to get rid of in the last two weeks?

I lost track, once I got past 14, since that was the goal, but it sure felt good to get rid of the stuff! I shipped out 5 Comfort quilts, finished 3 customer quilts and sent them home, sold two items, threw away a big pile of paper, filled a box with give-away items to send to the next guild meeting, and filled a box with fabric to send to a friend. And that doesn’t count the random stuff I threw away or used up. I need to keep this going!

And that’s a good start to the new year, so it’s already time for the next challenge. Are you ready for it?

This time, I went to the cards, so I didn’t have to think too hard on what to do:

I’ve had “Clean out the landing closet” on my list for quite awhile; maybe this will make me do it. I started, but haven’t finished, so it’s probably 1/3 done. Surely I can finish it up in the next couple weeks? Hopefully, I can get rid of some more stuff, and have more space to put away some of the things that still need to find homes.

If it’s easy, and motivation kicks in, I might even find the oomph to clean out a cabinet, too! My three other closets up here are already cleaned out. I managed to get those done last year, and they’ve stayed pretty clean, in spite of my efforts!

How about you? Do you have a closet or a cabinet that needs attention? One that’s a catch-all, that you just chuck stuff into willy-nilly, and it could use a good going-through? Who knows? — maybe you’ll find something you thought was lost that you’ve been looking for. Come to think of it, I have one UFO that is hiding from me (at least one). Maybe it’s in the landing closet?

Good luck to us all as we go in!

Instead of cleaning items out of my studio I concentrated on cooking what I had stocked up on last summer. I actually succeeded in that so now I’m going to concentrate on getting the accumulated batting scraps sewn into pieces big enough for some of my quilts in progress. I’ve also been trying to get my scraps used down so I don’t feel so overwhelmed by them.

Several quilt books were taken out to get rid of, they are in a box to go. Some magazines are gone into recycle after keeping the articles/ patterns that I want to use. I didn’t count the other things that I got rid of. It’s a small beginning.

I sold fabric on Instagram and packed up some other fabric to give away to friends I knew would use it. I still have a stack that I intend to drive to a store that takes fabric and then resells it. They used to buy it. Now they give you store credit, which I’m not interested in, but if they can resell, I’m fine with that.

I went thru old silver-plate – divided between my sisters & daughter, got a stack /sack of stuff for thrift store and worked on some binders of paper patterns. I am sure i will find a closet of stuff i can go thru.

Got one table cleaned (back) off by putting fabrics into proper places & cleaned out a couple of notions and patterns containers. What l didn’t keep was trashed. Went thru scrap basket — cut, sorted & trashed … now it’s less than half full. Small starts, but every little bit helps … 🙂

I’m slowly building a stash of things to take to the thrift shop, but I didn’t technically get rid of anything last week. I’ve already cleared a closet (yesterday) to get ready for some rearranging that’s going to be happening (another quilt room renovation – yay!).

Sold a quilting frame I didn’t use, advertised two sewing machines I need to sell(sold one), cleaned up and organized the sewing room. I still need to straighten the fabric closet.

I did not keep count per say but I know I took a car load to the local thrift shop……so that was good….and as for this next one……I did most of the cleaning out and redoing when I had 3 days off in a row…….got all the kitchen cabinets done and both spare room as well as my room…..so good to go on this one as well….

    happy quilting everyone

  9. I used the time to do things in the studio and other parts of the house.
I need to go through the cutting table cabinets.

    I blogged about it.

Don’t know where I’ve been but I totally missed task one. However I did send a full bin home with my sister when she came down to use my longarm. I didn’t count but I’m sure there was more than 14 items…I know of at least 4 kits, some fabric and notions, some quilting videos and patterns. I also took an SUV load to the donation center from my household declutter.
I’m still collecting stuff from the sewing room and looking for new owners.
I’m doing inventory and reorganization on my hand sewing projects. Much of which has been living on the shelves in my bathtub closet. That so called closet needs to go elsewhere as the bathroom is up for a redo🤪. Not sure where that elsewhere is going to be…sewing room is pretty full.

  11. This challenge is coming at a perfect time. I have a bedroom closet that needs to be gone through. I’ve managed to lose almost all my Covid lockdown/3 surgeries weight I had gained so clothes need to be gone through before spring arrives. I can brag that will your help everything in my sewing corner has been gone through and purged a couple of times. My filing cabinet has space in it and I only have a bit of scraps in my bin by the cutting table that need sorting and cutting in to my scrap saver system. The closet and scraps will be dealt with before the weekend is over.

You sure did great in clearing things out. For 3 days, I found some yardage to donate and the rest of the days I worked on the paper piles and made sure to toss a bunch each day.
For this next challenge, I have a cabinet that I reorganized during the Final Countdown, but I didn’t get to a few of the drawers, so this will be a good time to do that. Thanks for the push!
