It’s Fall, Y’all!

Posted on September 23, 2025 by prairiemoonquilts in Lists

Yesterday was the official first day of fall, my favorite season.

Today, the 23rd, is that special day when there are only 100 days left in the year!

I write about this every year, but that’s because I’m a list-making kind of gal, and this is a great occasion to make yet another list.

In case you’ve missed it in previous years, here’s the book I make my lists in:

It’s half full! I’ve been using this book for my 100 Days lists since 2010, so I guess it still has a few good years left in it. (I’ve been doing these 100 Days lists since 2008.)

So . . . what’s on the list this time?

Probably, as usual, a lot of things I will NOT get done. But having them on the list at least keeps them top of mind, and I’ll be thrilled with the ones I can finish. I’ll do as many as I possibly can, and it will help me get the next year off to a better start.

I know a lot of you are not list makers. Some of you feel like you can’t commit to 100 days. But those days are gonna pass no matter what you’re doing, so why not try to move things forward purposefully? I already know that life and family are gonna throw a lot of things in my path from now until the end of the year (my first grandbaby is arriving in November! — yes, of course, I’m working on a baby quilt).

But at least I’ll have a list to refer to when I get the chance to work on something, and I’ll use it as a guide for what to work on, rather than wandering aimlessly around my studio trying to decide what to work on, and not having a plan.

How about you? What will you do with the last 100 days of 2025?

We are getting the veg patch under control – now for autumn plantings like field/broad/fava beans. If they don’t survive and the voles eat them, then I will still have time to sow some later in the greenhouse. We recently added alpacas so reaping the manure benefits! Still harvesting! Started sewing again – husband walked in and walked out of the room saying he thought he was in the wrong place because it was tidy. Cheek! Christmassy things are being ticked off the list. I’m making lots of 4 patch blocks. Completed the top with the tiny 9 patches and Ohio stars – needs to be quilted and same for your pattern that is completed. Next one on the cards is a quilt for my son, using the back of a shirt that he had. Need a pattern for the outside as it will be a medallion! We are also trying to make time for ourselves, exploring our area and just taken up archery lessons – lovely group and it’s fun. Working towards our certificate to have our own equipment and play on our own.

that is a good way to look at it. first on my to do and get done is the rest of the stuff for my wedding. then we can move on to quilts and Christmas lol

    Ugh… really that’s all that’s left!

I do lists for packing for a trip, I have multiple alarm settings when I have to leave the house… I tried to do multiple 100 day projects too…none finished ever!

I have to say the best tip I received from you is that “take 10 minutes to clean up”. Which is odd, as I tell my almost 54 year old confirmed bachelor son, he would be amazed at what he can get done around the apartment in 10 minutes. ( or some variation of words not many swear words over the years )
I will try this. Not likely to save over the years though!

Yes! I think I can fill the 100 mark. lol Most will probably not get done, but I’m thinking quite a few will be crossed off. Thank you for the reminder, Shelly. I like crossing things off. If it isn’t on the list, I’ll put it on just so I can cross it off! hahahaha

We have a granddaughter coming in late October. And I chose a baby quilt with WAY too many pieces…We’ll see if I make it.

I make lists, mainly to remember what I thought of last night to do in the morning. I do the 10 min clean up for my cutting mat. Then leave a list of what’s next step or where I leave off in a project. It helps to focus when I walk into my sewing room.

I will give this a try this year! Even if I get a few things crossed off that will be a start!

I’m a list maker, but have not discovered 100 day list until YOU! Thanks, as old as I am I need this new list. Just got our first Grandgirl married on Saturday. That gives you pause. I see my years slipping away, I need a new list!!!

It’s funny that you said “wandering aimlessly”. Today I told an online friend that I felt like I was playing hop scotch in my sewing room. Jumping from one project to another. I have 5 projects in progress (not counting the to be quilted) and I want to get them finished by the end of the year so I can start the Quiltworx project that I purchased in February. Good luck with your list.

How about a Princess on a Pea look for this precious child! Congratulations.
Thanks for keeping us motivated–I can think of many things to do to fill the next 100 days.

I make a list in January. I think it helps me to get organized. some of the items just keep being moved from year to year and this year I decided to take them. I definately made progress there. then i realized I have projects that never made it to a list! things I forget about! I’m even getting one of those done right now!

I joined a group that’s working on UFOs – one a month and it’s keeping me busy. There are months when l don’t get it done, but progress is being made. Surprisingly, I’m still interested in them like the one for thisonth. I started it 19 years ago, put it down because I wasn’t savy enough to quilt it. Now I’m confident enough to get it done.

You introduced me to the 100 list several years ago and I’ve made every year up to this year. I usually get about 50% done. I’m dragging my feet on making one this year and I can’t really say why…maybe because I’ve been dragging my feet on so many things I should be doing around here. I do make daily and weekly lists to keep me focused but I’ve been rebellious about them lately. My lists are usually house orientated, not quilting. Quilting is my playtime 😊. I’ve been following along with the monthly UFO numbers from the Quilted Forrest and it’s working! Some have been finished, some have progress and only one so far that I didn’t even look at during it’s month. I’d be in good shape if I didn’t keep starting new projects and if I could catch up the longarming Que.

Shelly, can you provide details about the book “Today’s Problems”? I’m not finding anything online. Thanks so much!

It’s a vintage textbook I found at an antique store one day for 50 cents. I brought it home and found a guy who turns old books into new books, and sent it to him and he made an entirely new book out of it with all blank pages for me to write on! I love it a lot. Sadly, I don’t think that guy is doing that any more, so I’m glad I found him when I did.
