Greek Cross

I know it’s hard to believe. Two new patterns in the same week. I told you I’ve been working hard!

Here’s my next new pattern . . .

Greek Cross

GreekCross

There’s nothing new about the Greek Cross quilt block. It’s a traditional block that’s been around forever. But since I teach a lot of classes to quilters of all skill levels, I decided to use this block to teach lessons on making half-square triangles, which is one of the units that is used in the creation of this block.

Therefore, this pattern contains lessons inside. Three different lessons on easy methods for making half-square triangles. I like it when patterns are extra useful that way, don’t you? You can try all three methods and then pick your favorite to construct your quilt. They’re even techniques that you can apply to other quilts you might make later on.

The pattern also comes with four size options, so you can easily choose your favorite size to make.

I made my sample quilt to look fairly traditional, and I can’t seem to stop myself from using lots of red — but I also wanted to see it in other colors, so I have another version of it made up in bright colors. You can see it HERE.

Did you notice that there are no animals in the picture of this quilt? Amazing! I’m not sure how I managed that, other than I shot in the yard and not the pasture this time, and during all my running in and out, Oscar snuck in the house, so he wasn’t available to help. My Cowboy found him asleep in the spare bedroom hours later, acting like an indoor cat!

Both patterns (printed and PDF versions) are listed in my Etsy Shop now. Check back soon for more news!

Way to go on the new patterns! I really like the Greek Cross block; one of those oldie but goodies.

  2. That is a great pattern Shelley! Can’t wait to see how it looks in the brights although this red, white and blue is so classy too!

I like the Greek cross quilt. I would like to see in maybe in various shades of blue. The reds are very pretty. Excellent job.

I love the contrace of the background fabrics, it makes the blocks showup even more. I love the reds you have used in the blocks, they make the quilt come to life, and dance. I do enjoy your newsletter each week! Just keep up the good work!!

I’m having a hard time picturing this pattern without red, but I think red works in every quilt. It’s awesome that you’ve managed to move back to Missouri, remodel and redecorate a house, make quilts, quilt quilts, and then add two patterns to your repertoire. All I got done this morning is use my little chainsaw to cut down a huge poison “tree” and free a couple of bushes of the wild grape vines that were smothering them.

Oooh, I WANT THIS PATTERN — I think! I made a gift quilt earlier this summer, but it turned out much smaller than I intended. Is this easily made into a queen size? And can I purchase the pattern?

What a lovely color combination that makes. Now I’m anxious to see the bright one you mentioned to see if I like it better. =)

  10. Shelly, thank yo so much for the pattern. I greatly appreciate it! You shouldn’t enter me in this one, since I just won, but I wanted to say I love the quilt and what a great idea to have lessons in your pattern. I love it!

I am drawn to patterns that use HST’s. Having different ways to make those up included in your pattern is a nice offering. I like your pattern and would enjoy winning a copy of it for myself. Thanks for the chance.
