Garden Path Samplers

The new Saturday Sampler Block-of-the-Month quilts for Sew Sweet Quilt Shop are ready!

The grand unveiling took place at the shop last Saturday, and I haven’t even had time to blog about them until now!

As usual, we do two color ways: one in a more traditional earthy color palette, and one in a modern bright color palette. Also, as usual, I include two different ways to set the 12 blocks together, which are completely interchangeable.

Coming up with a good name is always a challenge, but I’ve decided to call these “Garden Path Samplers”, since there is a noticeable “path” through the center of each: one that resembles cobblestones (traditional), and one all vines and flowers.

So here’s the traditional version:

Jeanette chose several coordinating prints from various Laundry Basket Quilts fabric lines by Moda, with a French General basic for a background, and a Moda Weave for the sashing and binding.

And here’s the modern version:

Jessica chose prints from the Poppie Mae and Blushing Peonies lines by Robin Pickens for Moda, along with two colors of Moda Grunge for the background, sashing, and binding. We also threw in a piece of Robin’s Thatched basic for the appliqué vines.

They’re taking sign-ups at the shop right now, which will only continue until early October, so if you want in, don’t delay getting signed up. You can call the shop at 660.548.3056 and get your name on the list. Block pickup happens on the second Saturday of each month, or they will ship it to you if you can’t come to the shop!

On the second Saturday of each month, beginning in September, you get a packet of fabric to make one block.  This lasts for 12 months, so by the next August, you have 12 blocks made, and the setting is then up to you.

You can set them together any way you choose. Two options are presented in the pattern booklet, and they’re completely interchangeable: you can do the patchwork version with the bright fabrics, or you can do the appliqué version with the traditional fabrics.

If you’ve participated in any of the previous Sew Sweet Saturday Sampler Block-of-the-Month programs that I’ve designed for them, these blocks would also be suitable to put into some of those settings (such as the Brunswick Sampler or the French Sampler), if you don’t like either one of the ones presented. Just one more option!

Your quilts are beautiful, quite unique to this part of the world. Can people just buy the pattern or is it in a book form? As I live in New Zealand postage for block of the month patterns and fabric gets prohibitive for a pensioner. Hope to hear from you soon. Liz

This is a gorgeous quilt! It gives you the best of both worlds by combining pieced quilt blocks with applique. Great colours for an Autumn quilt!
