Flying Geese and a Correction

Today’s post is for those of you who are working along on the Summertime Sampler Block-of-the-Month quilts.

As you work on some of the filler sections, you will be making lots of Flying Geese, and while I’ve spelled it out in the instruction booklet very clearly (I hope), I thought I’d also provide you with a link to an online tutorial I wrote several years ago on making Fast Flying Geese. Find it HERE. This tutorial also provides a formula you can use to make Fast Flying Geese in other sizes for other projects later on, so it might come in handy in the future, as well!

And thankfully, participant Sandra brought it to my attention that there is a mistake on page 38 of the booklet. In the very last line of the instructions for Filler Section Two, it says the finished section should be 24 1/2″. That is incorrect — it should measure 26 1/2″ tall. The cutting and sewing instructions are fine, so you don’t need to change anything about that. It’s just a bit confusing when you get done sewing, and your section is a different size than stated, right? Sorry about that.

Here’s a picture of the section in question:

Also, the diagrams were incorrect, and I’ve fixed those. I’ve asked Jessica to pass out the corrected page with the next block pickup at Sew Sweet Quilt Shop, or she can email it to you in PDF format, if you prefer to get it that way. Or you can contact me to get the corrected page 38 emailed to you in PDF format. Then you can print it out and replace that page in your booklet.

And if you’re devising your own setting arrangement for your monthly blocks, this won’t affect you at all, so you won’t even need it! If you have any questions about this, leave me a comment or contact me. I’d be happy to answer.

Do you know if Jessica will mail me the correction with my next block? If not, can you send me the pdf? I just realized I haven’t been working on the filler blocks . . . :-0

Shelly, do you know when the shop will contact us regarding buying the fabric for the filler blocks?

I’ll just write-in the finished size of the blocks on page 38. 🙂

My guild is doing Summertime Sampler as a Block of the Month. We have 55 participants. I am in charge of this project. Page 6 of some of our booklets have different directions. Some state 4A/4B should be cut 6 1/2″ some state 4 1/2″. 4 1/2 is correct.
