February 350 Blocks Report

Posted on February 29, 2024 by prairiemoonquilts in 350 Blocks Project

Happy Leap Day! Did you know that this is the day “for all girls to grab their husbands”? Haha!

And it gave us an extra day to make more blocks! And I know it wasn’t because of the extra day, but this month seemed long — maybe because winter. I’m so tired of being cold.

I put a little space heater in my sewing room, and aimed it at my sewing station; that kept me parked at the machine just to stay warmer, so I made more blocks than I felt like was making.

I ended up with 70 blocks this month. Thirty-five of them were for a quilt I will (hopefully) show you next week. Sixteen were for mystery quilts, which I obviously can’t show yet. Eight were for gift quilts that I also can’t show yet. So what CAN I show you?

Well, I finished another Pineapple block. One more block to make, and I will be at the halfway point. I knew I’d get behind on this, but still didn’t think it would be going this slowly. But I do love it so much, and I will finish it, and just enjoy the process — which I actually DON’T enjoy, since it’s foundation piecing, but I’ll get through it.

I also drug out an old UFO to work on, and I will be posting about it soon, but I have too much to say about it to post it here right now — haha!

I also pieced and quilted this bedrunner for our guild to give to a local veteran. We had a work day back in December, and I started it then, but it has taken me until now to get it finished up.

And I got invited to join in on the Made & Found Quilt-Along that is happening on FaceBook right now. I really didn’t need to start another project, but so far, this one is proving super simple, and it’s using up leftovers from a bundle I wasn’t quite sure what to do with anyway, so it’s all good. Block 3 just came out, so I haven’t made it yet, but here is Block 1:

And Block 2:

Liking them so far! It’s not too late to jump in on this one. Just search for the “Made & Found” group on Facebook and ask to join.

So now it’s YOUR turn! What did you get done? I love hearing about all the variety of projects you all are working on. I just have to keep it from inspiring me to start more projects!

I’ve (finally) gotten the Project page updated — took me all month. I’ve been so slow during the cold weather, and I’m behind on a lot of stuff. I didn’t even get all my emails responded to, so if you didn’t hear from me, I’m sorry. Hopefully, I’ll do better from here on. So go make sure you’re on the Project page if you want to be, and please alert me to anything missing!

The January prize winner is Dianne from Alabama. She did 10 blocks in January.

Our goal for March is 30 blocks, for a year-so-far total of 70. I hope you all get lots of stitching time during March. You know National Quilting Day is sometime this month, so maybe that will help!

Congrats on your great numbers. Those are lovely blocks for the quilt along – looks like an autumn quilt.
I made 36 blocks in February. I’m taking part in the SAHRR 2024 (Stay at Home Round Robin) and made 24 blocks for round 5. Also testing a pattern for Faith and Fabric. So I made 12 blocks for it. Got to get cracking on that as it’s due Mar 4th. Blessings,

  2. Dianne from Alabama says:

I’m so excited to have my name picked for the January prize … and with only my paltry 10 blocks😜.
February was a tad better – 28 blocks.
I have been keeping busy knitting and binding for a couple of QOV groups this winter. Hopefully back to more piecing this month.
Again, thanks to Shelly for all you to keep us motivated!❤️

  3. Ioleen says:

I sewed like a mad woman this month, lol. I made 30 blocks. I did finish my Upscale Plaid quilt. I counted 16 blocks for that. 1 calendar block, 5 black and white blocks, 4 Riley Blake blocks and 2 Made and Found blocks. I also made 2 Hemingway pouches. Arm got a little sore from all that but I managed. Congrats to January’s winner.

  4. Well fortunately I already grabbed myself the best hubby many years ago! LOL.
That ivory/oak leaf fabric is divine!!! I’d take a couple bolts of that for sure, and put it on so many things (backs, too!) I make since much of what I do is fallish! The colors in those blocks are soooo pretty!
My sewing days have been fairly minimal but one quilt in particular has gotten my count up, though I had to do a little guessing on adding up a pieced border–but oh it’s a pretty one and should be a finish by next Tuesday’s post! In all, put me down for 133 blocks.

  5. KT says:

  10. Stephanie says:

February I was slow starting (after January surgery) but I’ve been chipping away and ended up with 43 blocks. Most of them red-based for the RSC.

  11. Kelly Powers says:

LOVE your pineapple block! I’ve managed a lot of sewing time this month and was able to complete 93 blocks in February. 32 log cabin blocks plus 8 more blocks for charity quilts, 1 heart mini quilt and 52 blocks for a Wanderer’s Wife quilt. I also sewed a dress-up costume for a granddaughter’s birthday, put binding on 2 quilts, and quilted 2 quilts on my longarm (hand guided and very new to me). Happy sewing to everyone during March!!

  12. Ginny says:

Big Month for me. 85 blocks. One quilt started as 164 blocks but ended up as 42 blocks by changing the layout. Enlarged a old Ufo and quilted & bound it. One block for a Quilt for a Cancer patient. Finally decided what to do with 9 24″ Rodeo Baby blocks that became a queen size top. Turned 15 blocks into a quilt for a niece’s BIL. This means lots of binding in March.

  13. Love the scrappy pineapple block and the flags!
I made 74 blocks in February for a YTD total of 101.

  14. Sandy Hughes says:

I surprised myself and made a total of 81 blocks this month. I made 54 six inch finished nine patches and 27 nine patches that finished at 2 inches. I don’t think March will be that busy tho

  15. Deanna says:

February has been my lightest sewing month in years: 19 blocks. But, we are all doing the best we can.

  16. Tanya says:

l love pineapple blocks! Especially scrappy ones like yours. It is gorgeous 😍 It’s been a slow sewing month around here. I only got 26 blocks done. I am planning on making it up next month during spring break. I agree with you, that’s enough cold weather. Looking forward to warmer weather!

  17. Moira says:

I improved my productivity in February — not hard since I completed zero blocks in January 🙂

    February total is 24 blocks.

The Pen & Paper Sparrows Quilt (https://penandpaperpatterns.com/collections/pdf-patterns/products/pdf-sparrows-quilt-pattern) flimsy is complete and I made Sam Hunter’s Faster Fourteen (https://huntersdesignstudio.com/product/faster-fourteen/) flimsy to make into a tote bag large enough to hold my eldest’s 4-shaft loom when she takes it to weaving workshops. It is currently on the longarm with soft and stable instead of batting.

  18. PAULA M MO says:

I managed 10 this month…but I cut out 700 2 1/2 ” blocks…. so, next month maybe I will have a few more than 10. I really thought I could do 40 this month…so I won’t commit to 30. I am using 5″ charms to make a pine burr pillow ….I guess I could count each round as a block. I am starting small to see if it is something I could manage, watching the girls softball games. I didn’t get the feel for EPP. Well I collected tins, to start EPP, but I know they aren’t my thing!

  19. Barbara B says:

I made 196 blocks in February

  20. Louise says:

This has been a great month for me – 272 blocks. And that is not a typo. I have had a lot of extra sewing time.

  21. Sharon Gratz says:

I’m reporting 44 blocks for February. Working on a quilt for grandson’s wedding, working on a BOM that is really a RBR, and sewing a bunch of pink squares together for a baby quilt. And, I’m sewing crumbs together because I have an idea of making blocks of different sizes for a quilt.

  22. Donna says:

Thank you for your time and skill for making the quilt of recognition for a vet. Our original plan for making it didn’t work out due to meeting cancellations, did it? The quilt’s beautiful.

  23. Wendy says:

91 blocks for me this month! Been having fun in the sewing room while the weather tries to decide what season we are in!

  24. Danice G says:

11 blocks for me in February. Yay! Your pineapple block is very pretty. Your USA flags bed runner looks awesome too.

  25. Kerry says:

Managed 19 blocks – well happy with that, plus I loaded up mum’s quilt on the frame and quilted it, bound it and took it to her yesterday. It’s already on her bed – and brought her back here with me for a mini holiday while my husband is in California for a month.

Love your flag quilt – beautiful!

  26. Christopher Thomas says:

well good morning everyone. Happy March first. been crazy here in Carrollton we had a double shooting and both boys died so I got.busy and made both families a quilt. they are at the quilters along with 12 others. I am going to have to take a loan out to cover all of those lol.

I made a ton of blocks left over from my covid mask fabric ( which I do not count all of those blocks as they are 4 patches) I can wip them out a couple hundred at a time as all the fabric has been precut.

work on some other quilted things that I can not talk about in a group sorry everyone one must keep at least one secret in their lifetime and you know what they say if more then you k ow.the secret then it is not a secret lol.

so my total fir February is 986

    happy quilting everyone

  27. Rose P says:

I’m so glad you have a heater in your sewing space to keep you warm. I received my prize and it was awesome. Thank you so much. DH tried to claim the chocolate but I grabbed it back. I have surprised myself, I completed 97 blocks in February. Completed a quilt top, start to finish, at retreat. Hand appliqued (UGH!!) 7 blocks with orange peels, several RSC red blocks and made a great start on another top.

  28. Marilyn H says:

Total for February: 0. I have cleaned two piles of papers stacked up for a year! and now are gone! Reorganizing is greatly needed, and now on to block-a-day for March.
Your pineapple block is beautiful…foundation is slow but very productive results.

  29. Carissa says:

Space heaters can be such a blessing in older houses! I’m glad that it helped you to stay warm enough to sew. I didn’t have as much time to dedicate to quilting as I would like, but I did sew up 60 blocks, which is still good progress!

  30. Arlyn Parker says:

Your Pineapple Block is gorgeous-every time I see one I am tempted.
    February Blocks:
4 Log Cabins for weekly embroideries
    4 Kaleidoscope-only 4 more to go!
    6 Hummingbird Blocks
    8 Hibernation Blocks
    Pieced a baby quilt-63 Blocks
    Total-85
(Soon we will be complaining about the heat!)

  31. Linda Knight says:

I managed 45 blocks this month and quilted and bound 1 small quilt. I am making small quilts for 6 great grands for Christmas this year. 3 done and 3 to quilt and bind.

  32. Wanda Marvel says:

    12 blocks

  33. I’ve been a little under the weather this month so only 16 blocks done. I have a couple of retreats coming up so should be increasing soon (I hope)…YAY!!

  34. Rose Marie Smith says:

Put me down for 61 blocks…………but there were more that never got counted. But my good news is that I have quilted 7 small quilts for community service and have 4 more pieced and ready for quilting. Need batting and backing gathered up. The scrappy blocks are turning into scrappy quilts. Is that artistic? LOL

  35. Mary D. says:

I got 25 blocks done for the month. Love your pineapple block. Must have 863 pieces in just one block!

  36. Cindy Wienstroer says:

I’m a slacker☹️. No blocks for me – did cross stitch instead with some clothes for my sister. This month will be hard since our church’s prom dress give-away. But who knows – it might happen when that is done.

  37. katie z. says:

    71 blocks for me.

    https://zanasninis.blogspot.com/2024/03/february-block-count.html

I also am tired of the cold! There is a space heater next to my sewing machine also, and the new windows are helping as well, but I’m ready to not be cold.

  38. ChrisGG says:

Only 32 this month which is slow for me. I was gifted an older friend’s stash and it took me 2 weeks to sort thru everything choosing what to keep, what to donate and keep everything organized. Spring is coming and the days are getting longer!!!

  39. Diana S says:

love all your blocks Shelly. Every so often I find the pack of papers for the scrappy pineapple, maybe one of these days I will get it started! For the month we had here I am happy with 48 blocks! They are for the County Line pattern by Mountainpeak. using all Texas Wildflower fabrics. Still need to get the top together so I can hand it over to my quilter. Last Saturday I got.up from a chair wrong and twisted my knee. Since my sewing area is on the 2nd floor I didn’t get any more sewing done. I did get the baby quilt bound and delivered tho. We now have new shingles on the roof and all the brick is back on the house. Nothing like gaving bricks ready to fall! when they.built this home 30 years ago they really cut some corners! But it’s better now. Good thing I have a large fabric collection! It was an expensive fix ! Total 48, hope to do better in March

  40. Amanda says:

5 blocks for February and it was all for the Strippers Delight II that I’m working on. I’m also ready for spring as I’m also tired of being cold.

  41. Joan says:

68 blocks done! One quilt handquilted and finished!
Great pineapple block. Just started making one of those using a ruler method that I had purchased a while back. Like the variety of fabrics you are using in your blocks–FUN!

  42. Ginabeth says:

I had 65 this month. It it were not for the leaders and enders 9 patches I would only have a few. I decided I am going to make Lori Holt’s YouTube project Checkerboard Chain Quilt with my 9 patches.
Thank for doing this one last year.

  43. Bev C. says:

Wonderful pineapple block. I won a pineapple ruler a few years ago and have yet to use it. I certainly should because I have a huge amount of strings. I ended up with 152 blocks this month. Finished quilting 2 quilts. Trying to catch up. I promised myself for every quilt top finished, I would sandwich and quilt that one and sandwich and quilt at least one other from my finished tops before starting another quilt. I’m down to 3 unfinished quilts! Progress!

  44. I had a big month in February–122 blocks! I won’t be able to match that every month, but I’m happy to have it this time.

  45. Susan Siemens says:

I love your blocks, especially the pineapple one. its been on my “want to do” list for so long.
I made 30 blocks, some waves and some boats for a 1st birthday quilt for my grandson. Feels like I made 130 blocks with all the ripping and resewing! I also made 9 Kaffee Fassett blocks I love his fabric and I needed a selfish sew. So total for February is 39

  46. Marsha P says:

    12 blocks for me

  47. Debbi says:

Your blocks are inspiring, as usual. I do so love that pineapple block. It’s going to be a gorgeous quilt.

I did 55 blocks for February along with a ton of L/E that will soon be able to be added to the block count. Best part was making 28 string blocks to finish up a ufo from about 20 years ago. And I even have the longarming done, just needs a binding. Woohoo!

I hope you are not getting a new blast of cold from the west that we have had. I’m ready for some sun!

  48. Darlene Y says:

Total of 39 for me- 20 scrappy stars and 19 blocks for another quilt.
Love your pineapple block it is on my list of blocks to do!
Thank you for inspiring us! ! !

  49. Raewyn says:

Good on you starting another quilt! And great tally for February. I made 42 in February.

  50. Ceil Podzimek says:

I’ve never made a pineapple block – I’ll have to try it someday.
I had 27 blocks for February – 1 Trixie bag to go with my sister Jane’s quilt, 11 blocks for my hexi American Flag hanging, 10 more blocks for my QAL of Tula Pink’s 100 blocks, and 5 bucket hats to go to my 2 sisters and their family in Louisiana (still have a few more bucket hats to go). I did bind my row x row quilt in time to get it in my guild’s March show (‘A Little Help From My Friends Exhibit“).

  51. Randy Menninghaus says:

I like your blocks this month. I have been pretty involved in a Linus group and my new quilt group is making Welcome Quilts for families moving into Maine. I got some serious sewing done. I was given a box of blocks that were started but abandoned at the Linus group. That box alone generates 123 blocks lol. My total for this month 181…

  52. Marlene Clausen says:

I just can’t recall if I sent my total for February and, now, I can’t find my tally sheet. Sew, just in case, am going to guess. I know I pieced the QOV, finished a quilt along, and make some sample blocks which I will use in an upcoming project. Those come to (best guess) 36 blocks for February.

  53. Paula Mu says:

Sorry for this very late reporting.
I had 21 blocks this month. I had 1 in a “card,” 5 in some table runners,1 in a JacquelynSteves project, 2 Riley Blake mystery blocks and 12 Haberdashery blocks in a fat quarter shop project. Hopefully I’ll have more next month.

  54. Love love love the pineapple block.
I have a block count of 14. All veggie blocks.
Thinking next month will have bigger numbers as I did get some half blocks done and they are due to the quilter by EARLY next month.

  55. Diane O says:

Super late reporting, but I had 120 blocks for February. 84 of the blocks were for a Bonnie Hunter quilt called Rectangle Wrangle. It is a Bargello quilt made in blocks with one constant fabric that forms a chain through the quilt. Each block has 36 pieces in it, but you strip piece, so it’s not 36 individual pieces. Our guild theme this year is Bargello and I was doing a demo at our February meeting. I made mine twin size for charity, so didn’t add any borders.

I was ‘gifted’ some wonky preprinted blocks to make into a charity quilt. I added oversized borders to the side of each block and then squared the blocks with wonky borders in order to make the blocks more straight. I think the quilt turned out quite cute, hope it makes the recipient happy.

I love your pineapple block!! The black stripe in the corner of each block, is that in the fabric? It makes the block look so cool!

Thanks for doing this, I’m loving it and sad that it is your last year! Hope your house is coming along and getting ready for you to move!

  56. Susanne Purvis says:

I love your Pineapple blocks!!! Might have to start sewing up some to get my scrap bin reduced. 😊 I made 98 blocks in February. I hope that I am just as productive in March…but it’s a bit doubtful…

  57. Kathi Benchley says:

16 blocks for me in February.
