February 350 Blocks Report

Posted on February 28, 2023 by prairiemoonquilts in 350 Blocks Project

So . . . Did you get a lot of sewing done in the short month?

I managed more than I thought I did. I didn’t bother to total anything up until just today, and was pleasantly surprised by my total of 124 blocks!

It didn’t feel like I was getting that much done. I’ve been spending a lot of time at the longarm. And have plans for that to continue through March as well.

I made three more blocks for my Blast from the Past quilt. Here’s Block 10. I didn’t take photos of Blocks 11 and 12. I’m ready for Block 13. The last two blocks come out on Friday, so I’m way behind, trying to catch up. There were some sneak peeks of finished quilts in the April issue of American Patchwork & Quilting. I love the one my friend, Doris, made.

APQ has also started a new Quilt-Along for the cover quilt from the April issue. I’m debating jumping in on that, since it looks fairly easy, and I could use up some more scraps. I really don’t need another project, tho!

I made four more blocks for my Limerick quilt. Here are two of them. It’s all cut out, but the sewing is going very slowly. I hope to step it up in March.

I finished the Scrappy Blue Triangles baby quilt top. Look closely at it . . . I’m a bit upset with myself over the two different whites. I pulled the white fabrics from my scraps after dark one evening, under the artificial light in my sewing room. Come the light of day, I realized it’s two different whites, but I decided I wouldn’t worry about it, since it’s a scrap quilt. Now, I’m more upset about it than I thought I’d be. But it’s done, and I keep telling myself it won’t matter in the grand scheme of things. If you never look at it in natural light, you can’t tell!

I also made another Maple Leaf block, and 42 four-patch blocks for a comfort quilt. And I’m working on a couple of secret sewing projects I can’t show. And some blocks for another project that I will show you soon.

So that was my February — how was yours?

It’s time to report in with your totals.

Our block goal for March is 30 blocks, for a year-to-date total of 75. You can find the Project page HERE. If you don’t see your name listed, or I have your total incorrect, let me know.

The January prize winner is Kathi B.

I hope you get lots of sewing time in March!

‘Love the scrappy triangles quilt. Oh white fabric. Yes there are many shades and tints aren’t there? That has actually happened to me before. Guess what- I completed 12 blocks in February. Yay!

  3. Kat P. says:

I joined February 1st, so my block count for January and February combined is 231! I surprised myself. I shared a pic on my blog. https://madkapquilter.blogspot.com/2023/03/february-one-monthly-goal-moves-to.html

  4. Carissa says:

I think that once it’s quilted, the different whites will be less noticeable. It’s a fun scrap quilt! I’ve been doing some involved hand applique, so that’s taken a lot of my time. Only 6 blocks this month. I do have parts ready for several ongoing projects, so I expect the number to be much higher next month!

  5. 173 for me! Whoo hoo!
I keep in stock a white and an off-white and they’re so close that I have to take them over to the window. I’m super careful with any scraps (I keep them with the bolt) but I’ve been thinking about going a little darker on that off-white!

  6. Rose says:

69 blocks for me this month. Not bad considering we were out of town for 2 weeks. I completed 24 of the blocks during the first 3 days of our trip then I read a book. LOL

  7. Amanda M. says:

102 blocks for February which surprised me greatly since February was crazy. Who knows what March will bring! All of your stuff is so cute!

  8. Deanna says:

Like Rose, I have 69 blocks for February. A total of 259 for the year so far. And I don’t mind the multiple “whites” in the quilt…Anyone looking that closely is already impressed.

  9. Sharon Gratz says:

60 for me in Feb, Shelly.

  10. Fran says:

In February, I made 137 blocks which was good for me. The best thing is that I was able to get 7 quilts ready to send to the long arm quilter.

  11. Pam Desilets says:

  12. Kathi Benchley says:

  13. Phillis Harding says:

217 blocks for me in February completing 4 quilts. All were made with scraps.

  14. Susan says:

I like the variety of backgrounds in the blue triangle quilt. I have a friend who made a large one in scrappy colors, and it is so awesome looking, like yours!

I have 47 blocks for February!

  15. Diana S says:

Once you get that quilt quilted those whites won’t be as noticeable. I managed to get all those half square triangles I found trimmed and sewn into pinwheels. total 84 blocks for the month. Much better after my slow January!

  16. Only 6 for February…but two retreats coming up soon!

  17. Marlene Clausen says:

0 for February. Well, I probably do have some blocks; but it is a QOV Mystery Quilt, so know way of knowing what a block is until later in March. That is also my monthly QOV, so don’t have a separate QOV to add to the total. Have spent a lot of time quilting, shelving fabric, making curtains, and other sewing stuff. Yes, I agree, those two whites would drive me crazy. Guess I would try for a thread color for quilting that would be more noticeable than the mis-matched whites. With your quilting skills it should be easy to create a beautiful distraction.

  18. Ioleen says:

Love you blue triangle quilt! ❤️❤️❤️

I made 56 blocks in February, most were for SAHRR.

  19. Connie S Wolfe says:

I love your scrappy blue white quilt!

  31. KT says:

I made 44 blocks in February, which is good for me. I also quilted my second quilt on a long arm–I’m getting better at it, but still haven’t attempted anything other than an allover fmq design.

  32. Judy Smith says:

35 blocks for February! I’m on a roll now!

  33. I managed to stitch two blocks in Feb! Better than the zero I made in January. But I’m determined to catch up.
Love everything you’re working on. I feel the same about the APQ quilt along…would love to join in, but no time! I’m seriously working on UFOs and enjoying that.
I love your house block, the colors are amazing.

  34. cathy k says:

I made 42 blocks for February, but I finished putting together a couple quilt tops. Now back to block making and getting the tops ready for quilting.

  35. I love your triangle quilt, it’s a shame about the whites being different. I got 40 blocks done for February, not sure how because I am struggling for machine time.

  36. Tanya says:

l love your scrappy triangle quilt! I was able to get 10 donation quilts quilted and bound this month, as well as make 170 blocks. This month I started making the Split Back Star block for Quilts of Valor. It’s a good way to use up my red, white and blue scraps. Happy March, spring is on it’s way🌷

  37. Joan says:

48 blocks completed in February. All done by hand, as we were vacationing!

  38. Diane says:

I have 93 blocks for February.
    Seattle Block
    Venice Block
    30 Crackers
    30 Matchbox Blocks
    and 30 3 1/3″ 9-patch shirt blocks.
I’m thinking eventually I will have to put these blocks into a quilt or wall hanging or pillow, but for now it’s such a pleasure just to make them.
That triangle quilt though…I’m loving that. Going to have to see what I have for a background and just go for it.
    You are such an inspiration!

  39. Debbi says:

A little late reporting here😱. I made 19 blocks total for February. Even tho I didn’t make the goal for the month I have been finishing a few projects.

Got my bathroom remodel underway and there is a bunch of house stuff I’ll be doing that is going to steal my sewing time. I’ll be concentrating on finishing projects that need quilting and purging my stash to move. Ahh! It’s overwhelming to think of…

  40. Clara says:

26 blocks completed. My attention was focused on the Block of the Month project. I’m the leader and need to stay one step ahead of the group…so far.

  41. Linda Knight says:

I’m late reporting but I managed 62 blocks and quilted and bound 3 quilts. It was enough to ease that “I need to quilt” urge.

  42. Raewyn says:

A productive month for you Shelly, and I love the house block made by your friend. I’m sorry you’re not happy with the triangles quilt – that is annoying but it probably won’t be noticed as much as you think it will! My total for February was 58 – I quite surprised myself!

  43. Ceil Podzimek says:

Managed 44 blocks for February – 17 for my Virtual sewing group’s SAL of Jen Kingwell’s Green Tea and Sweet Beans quilt, and 27 for 5 Teddy Bear quilts I’m ready to quilt for our sister guild in California, Glendale Quilt Guild.

  44. I’m a little late reporting my total for February. It was a productive month, and I ended up with 127 blocks.

  45. Beverly says:

I made 20 blocks in January.
    I made 9 in February.

I did lots of appliqué and embroidery rather than blocks!

  46. Moira Ten-Hove says:

To make those of you who reported 6 blocks this month — I made just 1.

On the positive side I did bind 3 finished quilts.

    Onward to March.

  47. Barb Magruder says:

I only did 18 blocks in February. BUT, I quilted and did binding on 7 quilts and 2 table toppers!

  48. Barb Roberts says:

    Hi Shelly,
I’m a bit behind, somehow I missed this post. My February total is 35. Thanks!
