Now that it’s gifted, I can show you this darling little Esmeralda Elephant quilt. I made this quilt for a very special little girl named Daanya. This one is for her to keep at her Grandma’s house.

The pattern is an instantly downloadable PDF (info below), and there’s a girl version and a boy version (named Edison). There’s also an option for a larger elephant.
For my version, I used the larger elephant, and since I was using a fat quarter pack instead of a charm pack, my squares are smaller. I trimmed my center to fit my larger elephant and then just did the math for the squares, because the pattern is written for the smaller elephant.

My sister has made three of these quilts. The appliqué pieces are large and super simple, and the assembly is so easy and quick once you have the appliqué finished.
I used a fat quarter bundle containing a few of the Fig Tree & Co. prints (by Joanna Figueroa) called Harvest Moon. Such soft colors. Kinda Halloweenish, in reality, but by using mostly the paler ones, it made this quilt come out OK. I wouldn’t normally think of using black in a baby quilt, but I think it works in this case.

I custom quilted it very simply, and used a sherpa fleece on the back so it would be nice and snuggly. Inside is a lightweight bamboo batting to keep it from being too heavy with the fleece backing. And I do love a striped binding, so I used the stripe for that.

And I see a cat hair! I got some help with the binding. But no worries, I pre-washed it before I sent it off!

Too cute ! Really nice work getting that applique on! When that soft orange/peach whatever they called it when it was the color of the year…I wasn’t keen on it. Now I kinda love it! No telling with black how it will be received. I made the mistake of telling my daughter at 5, black was for grown ups, not kids who should be in COLOR…her favorite color since. She even talked her aunt into buying her a black and green outfit for her kindergarten pictures! ( secretly so proud of her! )
Such a cute little elephant.
Do you use bamboo wadding/batting a lot? I have heard that people prefer that to cotton nowadays, not tried it myself.
Lovely and cuddly!
Really Cute!
that is sooo cute! I know they will love it
A friend of mine is expecting her first granddaughter and her name is going to be Ellie. They have an elephant theme. This may have to be my contribution.
I think that it’s very cute!!!
love it
Hi, I would like to try and make this quilt. I can’t find the pattern on Etsy.
I have tried to find the link to the Esmerelda quilt, which I think is beautiful and I would love to make it for a dear friend’s very special and long awaited granddaughter. Can you please let me know how I can either download or purchase the pattern.
Many thanks
Ann
