My sister got me this quilt for my birthday a couple years ago:

We were eyeing it on Etsy, and I said I’d maybe like to get it and take it apart and machine quilt it. A bit later, I was at her house, and she presented me with the quilt!
And after getting it and looking at it, I’ve decided I love it just the way it is! I love the colors. I love the design. I just love it!
And I don’t wanna undo all the hard work done by someone else — soooo much stitching!
It’s a summer spread. Embroidered top. All those little cross stitches.

No batting. A white sheet for the backing. It’s hand quilted.

All the knots are visible on the back side, which only adds to its charm, in my opinion.

Everything is done by hand, except the very edges. They’re turned together and the edge is machine stitched all the way around to hold them. And it’s in really great condition!

I have enough unquilted vintage tops to quilt as it is, so I think this one, that is already quilted and finished, can just stay like it is and I can go ahead and enjoy it, and spend my time on getting those others finished!
Beautiful
Wish I had made my summer quilt with no batting. I may make another for summer and put no batting in it.
What an awesome gift!
Your summer quilt is beautiful! Perfect just the way it is. Enjoy!!!
Really nice! What a special sister you have.
Oh I’m so glad you didn’t cut it – it really is delightful. All that work that went into it probably needed to be seen to realise it was perfect as it was. Thank you for sharing such a pretty quilt. And thank you to your sister that made it possible!
That is a real treasure!
Taking a deep breath and resting is just such a good idea. Love the hand stitching on this.
lovely!
Such a beautiful gift 💝
Beautiful quilt! I have 3 sisters like that, they would do anything for me, it’s a rare thing to have. Enjoy your quilt just as it is!
WOW what a beautiful gift of the heart.
I can only imagine the hours that went into this gem! The person who did the work would be so pleased it is in the hands of someone who knows to value it for what it is. Thank you for sharing it with us!
It is a wonderful piece complete in what it was intended and in excellent condition. All it needs is a daybed on a shady porch! I grew up on an Iowa farm and Mom’s best friend lived 1 1/2miles away. That woman could grow anything, but especially flowers. From the old fashioned French Lilacs that completely surrounded her yard, all through summer the perfume of her flowers was intoxicating. I spent many, many lovely hours on her shaded porch on a daybed with a very similar quilt and stacks of books while Mom and Dora worked together canning and freezing food for the winter. Lovely memories and your beautiful gift brought it all back in an instant!
I made a summer quilt some years ago. Just 9-patches and plain blocks set inbetween, the blocks are 6 inches square and used a lot of material. The back is one fabric and no batting. I turned the right sides together and stitched the edges; then turned to the front and stitched the perimeter which gave the edge a finished look. No quilting yet even after 15 years, I keep it on the couch to sit on it. The size is nearly king size. I LOVE it. As large as it is, there is no weight and easily moved. It makes a nice coverup on cool nights and does not shift. OK, after writing this I need to make another. 2025 Pick the largest stack of fabric and start. I’ll fill a container with fabric, notes on what I am doing, and go.
What a wonderful gift from your sister! A real treasure. It’s a very beautiful coverlet. I really love the border stitching, too. Someone put many hours and lots of love into that coverlet. It’s great you get to enjoy it, too. 🥰
