December 350 Blocks Report

Posted on December 31, 2024 by prairiemoonquilts in 350 Blocks Project

Well, here we are at the end of another year already! It’s kinda bittersweet that this is the final 350 Blocks Report I’ll be doing. I waffled all year about continuing, but I have decided to stick with my plan of 2024 being the last year for it. But never fear, I’m gonna be having other things going on to help inspire you with your quilting, so stick around!

As for my December block report, I got nothing. My count is FOUR. Four final blocks I made for THIS quilt. And I haven’t even had the sewing machine turned on for a long time! I’ve been doing nothing but running the longarm. But I’m almost done with the current deadlines, and once I am, I’m taking a bit of a break to rest and regroup, and figure out a good plan for 2025, so I’ll be letting you in on what that will be once I get it figured out.

How about you? Were you so busy during December that you didn’t get any blocks made? Or were you so busy sewing last-minute gifts or trying to finish projects before year’s end that you made more than ever? Did you make it to 350? Or go way over because you sewed a LOT this year?

Either way, it’s time to report in with your December numbers.

I have the Project Page updated as of this morning, and I’ll post the wrap-up sometime around January 10th, where I will announce the prize winners and unveil the statistics.

The prize winner for November is Kathy P. As of November 30, she was up to 615 blocks!

Thanks to everyone who has played along over the years. It’s been fun, and I have loved hearing what you’ve all been working on. Hopefully, we’ll still be sharing that fun stuff. Stick with me! There are still a few last prizes to hand out!

December brought 32 blocks for a total of 564 for the year. I finished 28 quilts. A great year. Thanks for all your inspiration through the years.

  2. Paula M Mo says:

Aw man – I have a measly two!

  3. Fran says:

Because I was making appliqué blocks, I only finished five. I did, however, sew binding and labels on six baby quilts which I gave to friends to give to their great grandchildren.

  4. Diana S says:

Not much sewing on blocks this month. 8 blocks for 2 table runners and finished a 16 patch. So 9 total. This maybe my lowest block count since I joined, but we had a little too much going on with house early in the year. And I kept on sorting, donating and tossing stuff! I did get some quilts finished and donated to Linus. A wedding quilt and a baby quilt gifted plus one for us. oh yes and one sitting here waiting to be given to friends. Late Christmas present. So while my count for the year wasn’t the greatest, for the amount of sewing time I had, it’s not that bad!!!! Will miss doing the block count but am totally looking forward to your new ideas! This has been fun and I still may keep track of how many blocks made!!!

  5. Rose P says:

I had 54 blocks for December. I will stick with you even without the 350 blocks. I check in on you daily. I will look forward to other inspiration.

  6. Moira T says:

    I have 26 to report:

A final 13 for my County Clare quilt. I plan to attach sashing and corner block during my guild’s retreat in February — simple sewing is good in such a distracting environment.

I began a Mod Owls (Sew Wonderful) quilt this week and have made 13 Owls so far using scrap solids in warm colors plus with a steel Essex Linen background.

That makes 26 for the month and 287 for the year. I’m pleased with my totals.

I will miss the monthly challenge, and think that I will see if folks in my guild would like to do one for 2025. It’s inspiring to see how much others accomplish. Thanks for running it, Shelly.

  7. Louise says:

I made 9 blocks this month for a baby quilt for my 18th grandchild who is due in March.

  8. Virginia A Smith says:

I was asked to make a large lap quilt instead of a runner so I have made the total for the year.
Two runners and the lap for a total of 64 for December. One at the LAQ and two for me to quilt.
I will miss the encouragement of the monthly count but look forward to what you find to challenge us with.
    Happy New Year

  9. Dianne in Alabama says:

A big zip for me in December! Christmas got in the way and there was some serious knitting going on! I did make the 350 goal, but with not a lot to spare (363)
Can’t wait to see what you’ve got up your sleeve for this next year. Thanks so much for keeping us motivated.

  10. Judy in Mo says:

My world fell apart the 2nd of December when I took a fall and broke my foot and ankle. So no blocks for me this month and I don’t think I reported for November. Congrats to those who made it!

  11. Barbara B says:

I was not able to report in November so the November/December total is 174 blocks.
Happy New Year, thank you for doing this.

  12. Klonda says:

Happy New Year Shelly to you and cowboy

  13. Marlene Clausen says:

12 blocks for December. Looking forward to new challenge(s) . . . didn’t want to be too optimistic that more than one would be good!! My blocks were a test run for a couple upcoming quilts. They work, so will be using them soon. From Thanksgiving until Christmas was busy w/Christmas gifts and most of that was on the embroidery machine. I did sew a couple bucket hats for my daughter. We both have small heads, so commercial ones rarely fit. Happy New Year to all!

  14. Susanne P. says:

Lots of blocks being made by lots of people, yay!!! I didn’t report for November…are you still counting them?! December has been a productive month for me, since I had a retreat at the beginning of the month. 106 blocks! Thanks for tracking everyone’s progress. 😊

  15. Sandy Hughes says:

I made 4 blocks for December but that’s ok. I was busy cleaning and clearing out things from my sewing room and now I have a nice area to work in! Sad to hear this is the last 350 project…..it’s been fun!! Happy New Year everyone!!

  16. Mary D. says:

I made a whopping zero. December has been so busy for me with Christmas programs, basketball games and holiday get-togethers along with babysitting and extra babysitting along with foolishly agreeing to quilt two quilts that turned into four for a 98 year-old friend, plus we picked up and are trying to pick out 100 pounds of pecans. And I did some blocks in the last few months previous, but couldn’t seem to keep good track of them, so I’m sorry I haven’t been a very good participant lately. I do appreciate seeing what you have made and getting the encouragement to get more done.
I hope we all have a fun and productive sewing year!

  17. Kerry says:

Managed 6 x 9 patch blocks. From those I made large 9 patch blocks with neutral squares and one in the middle of an Ohio star block, so 8 in total!

  18. Ioleen says:

I managed 20 blocks. Thank you for doing this. Happy new year to you and yours and all the best in 2025!

  19. Moira T says:

I thought I’d posted and was returning to mention that your YTD tally for me didn’t match mine. I believe yours since I lost my local tally and had attempted to recreate it — should have just looked here, sigh.

Anyway that post seems lost in the ether somewhere. I made 26 blocks this month. 13 to finish the blocks for my County Clare leaders and enders; 13 owl blocks for a Sew Wonderful Mod Owls quilt that I started a few days ago which I think counts for year end task 3.

    Happy New Year, everyone.

  20. randy says:

hi hi I got 19 done.

    Happy New Years.

  21. 58 Blocks for me. Thanks for this fun project Shelly. And Happy New Year to everyone!!

  22. Cindy Wienstroer says:

I finally got to do some sewing – 9 patches for my kids’ memory quilts with their dad’s shirts. Made a total or 102 – 3 different sizes of 9 patches. Maybe next year will be able to keep up.

  23. Elizabeth says:

Another 0 for this month. But look out 2025 here I come.

  24. Jason Hull says:

A big 0 for me but no biggie. I focused on a stress-free holiday–and it was! Totally worth it!

  25. Wanda Marvel says:

    12 blocks

  26. Stephanie says:

I have 42 blocks done for a new project I started on Boxing Day. Plus I made another row quilt top that I’ll call 12 blocks = 54
Thanks for the challenge Shelly, and I’ll look forward to seeing what you come up with for 2025.

  27. Christopher Thomas says:

well I made it back from the studio and figured up my blocks for the month. I wanted to finish the year with 10,000 but I did not make it. I gave it a good try. maybe next year.

my total for December is 621. it has been a good year and next year will be even better. you all have a great new year and happy quilting

  28. Paula Mu says:

I didn’t get many blocks made this month. 16 blocks is all I got done. I was busy enjoying Christmas. I will miss reporting each month. Thanks for all your work over the years.

  29. cathy k says:

I did 37 blocks, not bad for the busy month of December.

  30. Joan says:

53 blocks done this month. Thanks for all you have done to keep this going over the years. Happy New Year!

  31. Kathy P says:

It was a slow month for me also only 10 blocks were completed.
Thank you for keeping up all motivated during the years with 350 block reports. It’s sad that it has come to an end but excited to see where 2025 takes you and going along for the ride.
    Happy New Year!

  32. Amanda says:

Well I’ve only got 2 blocks to report; 1 I missed in November and 1 embroidery block I finished in December. I’m definitely going to miss you hosting this for us but I hope to keep my habit of keeping track of blocks made. Since I use a notebook it’s interesting to look back through the years to see what I was working on and what my production was. Thank you for hosting for all of these years! Happy 2025!

  33. Kelly Powers says:

I made 18 blocks in December, 3 of which were EPP, so not too bad for a busy month. This brings me to 540 for the year. I also long arm quilted a quilt for my 85 year old mother and taught her how to hand sew a binding.
This was my first year of the 350 block reports. I enjoyed it. Can’t wait to see what is coming in 2025. Happy New Year everyone.

  34. KT says:

30 blocks for me for December. I was busy making more reusable fabric gift bags–sure made wrapping gifts easy this year!

  35. Patti Hawkins says:

It was a good month, I completed 224 blocks. Thanks for keeping the 350 Block project going as long as you did. Now you will have a little more time to do things for you. Happy New Year Shelly, Cowboy and Tucker!

  36. Wendy T says:

Boy, December was kind of a wash for me. Not much time in the quilt room, but I managed just six blocks, a few of which turned into pouches. Ha!

  37. Beverly Hovis says:

    10 for me!
But I made a wall hanging with squirrels and pumpkins and it’s at the quilters. The more frustrated I got before, during, and after the election, the more I sewed squirrels. Stress release!
I’ve really enjoyed counting these past years. I get more done than I think! Thanks!

  38. Linda Knight says:

I made 39 blocks and quilted and bound 3 small quilts.
I made those three small quilts from orphan blocks that I scrounged out of my box. I now have a little more room to in that box to add some new orphan blocks as they become available (which they always seem to do)! I have really enjoyed this challenge. Thank you for inspiration. Happy New Year

  39. Karen E. says:

I made 144 blocks this month, which brings me to a year-end total of 999. I’ll continue to count my blocks now that I’ve been in the habit for the past several years.

Happy New Year to you and your Cowboy!

  40. Debbi says:

It seems like I did quite a bit of sewing in Dec but I guess I didn’t make any blocks or I forgot to write them down. I quilted and finished 4 sets of pillow covers and a wall hanging. I’ve added borders to a twin quilt to bring it up to queen size but I just cut apart the pieced backing and didn’t make any new blocks.

I will miss the block reporting, it has helped me appreciate and understand how much I can accomplish. The truth being not as much as I think I can! I’ve got a much better idea of how long it takes me to make a quilt. It’s curbed my buying of new projects. Thanks you for hosting the 350 block challenge! Happy New Year and on to new adventures!

  41. Rose Marie says:

I have no blocks to report for yet another month. Moving and recovering from surgery has been everything most of this year. Wow.

  42. katie z. says:

    1541 total for 2024

I’m sorry to have been so absent

  43. I’ll miss sharing with the 350 Blocks Report each month, but I will probably continue counting my blocks anyway now that I’m in the habit. I ended up with 35 for December.
I’m looking forward to seeing what you have going on in 2025!

  44. Christine says:

Thanks for running this Block Report, Shelley. I’ve now got in the habit of counting blocks and keep a record of finishes which helps encourage me when I look back. I’ve not been reporting blocks since we moved house (sewing has been a bit more erratic here) but have enjoyed reading your monthly reports and all the comments, found lots of encouragement and inspiration there. Best wishes for 2025! I’m looking forward to whatever new things you’ll share with us 🙂

  45. Carissa says:

Your sewing for December sounds a lot like mine. To be fair, I did do quite a bit of sewing, Christmas PJs and dresses, but not a single quilt block. There’s always room for more in 2025! Thank you so much for hosting this, it has been a great motivator!

  46. Suelynn Williams says:

I made 16 blocks in December. The most fun was helping my daughter get her quilting bags and fabric off the floor, clearing her work surfaces, and shopping at the Container Store and IKEA for the shelves and drawers! My granddaughter and son-in-law assembled the units while we sorted.

  47. Ceil Podzimek says:

Just seven blocks for December – I made a large Christmas pillow for my daughter using a Peanuts gang Christmas panel, 2 large single fabric santa bags, and 2 large pieced and quilted santa bags. The santa bags were fun to make and were very handy to use. Otherwise, I was busy quilting my cousin’s Tetris quilt made with my Tula Pink’s 100 modern blocks in time for Christmas giving.

  48. Suelynn Williams says:

You are my inspiration in so many ways. It’s been really helpful keeping track of the blocks I’ve made through the years, and occasionally I’ve been pleased to look back over the log sheets you created to see what I’ve accomplished. Thank you.

  49. Danice G says:

Only 3 blocks for December. It was a slow month for sure.

  50. Diane O says:

December produced 27 blocks. Lots of time was spent in the studio, but block production wasn’t a part of that time. Several things were quilted on the longarm and bindings completed. It was very successful month and now we are on to a great 2025!! Thanks for doing this Shelly!! I loved being a part of this.

  51. I finished the year with 2194 blocks.

  52. Ginabeth says:

I never sent my November blocks so I’m including them below. We had all the family at Thanksgiving so December was wide open to sew.
    November 79
    December 258
Thank you for keeping our totals over the years. I plan to continue on my own thanks to your sheets.

  53. Pam Desilets says:

I was able to finish 85 blocks for December.

  54. Marilyn Holder says:

    Total blocks for December; 24.
    Thanks for continuing this.

  55. Kathi Benchley says:

Another zero month for me – I did do a lot of sewing – gifts for the grandkids! Thank you for doing this – it kept me motivated!
