Creativity Challenge #25

I kinda fell off the blogging wagon for a while there. I’m still not completely back on it — I feel more like I’m being drug behind that wagon right now!

I’m really hoping August is a bit slower month for me, but I can already tell that the first half of it won’t be. But it’s OK. It’s a good problem to have!

I managed, in spite of myself, to find time to go to my new art group again, and this was our subject for the session — a branch from a golden raintree:

Here’s my rendition of it:

I don’t like trying to draw realistic things and make them look realistic. I already know I’m not good at that, so my plan is always to excerpt just a portion of whatever the subject is and concentrate on various attempts at that portion. I did a bunch of leaves. And I tried some of the “fruit”, even tho I didn’t try real hard to make it look real. I’m not completely unhappy with it.

I am very happy with myself for trying things I would never attempt sitting here at home. This group is really good for me!

One gal did hers with colored charcoals, a couple of people did theirs with watercolors, one gal used acrylics and crayons, another couple didn’t even attempt it and just sat and drank wine! It’s a very informal group! I’m having fun.

Anyway, on to the challenge for this week. Did you make a watercolor background a few weeks back? This week we’re going to use it. I want us to:

Doodle or draw on top of your watercolor background

I’m using Sharpies in the same color but a bit darker than my background.

I made a pink one:

And a blue one:

I like this monochromatic look using more than one medium. It’s fun so far. I’ve got a ways to go yet before I call either one of them finished (as usual).

You can use whatever you want to draw on top of your background: more watercolors, pen and ink, crayon, markers, colored pencils, regular pencils, you name it. Give it a try. The choice is yours.

I’ll be interested to see what you try out and how you think it worked for you. Have fun with this one!

I like what you’ve done so far. I think it would be fun to have a Paisley Party–whatever that might be. Your designs need to be developed to print with Spoonflower.

I like this idea. I tend to stockpile ideas also. I have had a little experience with watercolor class. I always plan to do an “art journal” This will be a great project to try. Don’t know how soon I can do it, but when I get one done, I’ll see if I can post it. Thanks for this idea!
