Creativity Challenge #20

I’m creative every day, it’s just that most days, that creativity is simply a LOT of sewing and quilting. The purpose of these challenges is to get me to be creative in ways I wouldn’t normally. And I seem to be a bit short on time for that lately!
And I find that to be the entire problem! I want to make time for it, yet I can’t seem to do it. It’s a problematic situation for me.
I’m here to confess that I haven’t even done the last challenge, altho up till now, I’ve done something on every one of the others, even if I don’t consider them finished yet.
As usual, if we skip a week, I hope you use it to catch up on some of those things or to try something else creative.
I started the Index Card a Day project, but here it is the 10th, and I’ve only done a couple of them, so I haven’t even taken the time for anything that simple.
I also found a drawing group that meets fairly close to me, and I intended to start going last Monday evening, but as I was pulling out of the driveway to go, my truck broke down and foiled my plans, so I’ll have to start that another time.
Someday soon, since the year is almost half over, I intend to gather up all my projects, and give you an update on the ones I’ve done and show them to you in their current state. It’s probably going to end up being more and better than my mind is picturing it, because I have slowly been chipping away at trying different creative things all year. It just seems like sometimes I’m not accomplishing much.
One thing I have been wanting to do and haven’t tried yet, is the task I’m proposing this week:
Use watercolor paints
I’ve really been wanting to try out my watercolors and get used to them and how they work, and try different brushes, so I can eventually make something wonderful from watercolors, or even a mixture of watercolors and other mediums. I can’t do this if I don’t get started, so this is the week.
I hope you’ll join me, and get out your watercolors and try making something wonderful.
Are you already a pro with watercolors? I’d love any hints and tips or tricks you can offer. I’ve never used them much before, except playing around as a kid. I was an acrylic paints painter in my painting days.
Maybe I’ll just pretend I’m a kid again, and start from there! Are you with me?
An artist whose work I really admire (and she does some watercolor stuff) is Helen Dardik. Her illustrations are fantastic — there’s so much to look at! She also posts videos of herself actually doing the illustrations on her Instagram page, so you can follow her there as well @helen_dardik. I only wish I could turn out that volume of work! Go check her out.
I’ve fallen behind too, and I can totally relate to wanting to do it, but making the time is a challenge. I have to be more purposeful in my thinking. I did try drawing on something unusual — a wine cork. It didn’t work to my satisfaction. The newer corks don’t work, anyway. A “real” cork one would work better, I think. 🙂
