Creativity Challenge #19

Yep, I skipped another week last week. Consider it another chance to catch up on past challenges, or do your own thing. I was traveling — I was in Salt Lake City for Quilt Market, which was a whirlwind of fun. And now that I’m back home, I’m still tired but back at it anyway.

Here’s my feeble attempts at hand lettering:

When I watch videos of others hand lettering, they make it look easy, but it doesn’t come that easy to me. For one thing, I’m always in a hurry. I need to learn to slow down and take my time to get the effects and the results I want.

So we’re on to the next challenge, which is:

Use something unexpected as a base for a drawing

An old newspaper, magazine pages, a paper bag, a coffee filter, a large leaf, a piece of wood, you get the idea. Something you normally wouldn’t think of drawing on — pick that and make a drawing!

I’m really interested in seeing what base you choose, so be sure and let me know what you do with this one!

As an aside, I’m also thinking about starting this: Index Card a Day Challenge.

It sounds inspiring and interesting, and I want to try it, so I thought I’d mention it here in case it sounds like something you’d like to do, too.

I like the idea except ket’s do it on muslin ironed to freezer paper. Then if we liked one of them, we could use it for a mini-quilt or postcard.

  2. Hi Shelly,
My choice was a newspaper. It’s been posted. Have a great day!
