Creativity Challenge #12

Posted on March 24, 2016 by prairiemoonquilts in Creativity Challenges

I hope you found last week’s task relaxing, and that it gave you some time to catch up, so you’ll be fresh for the next set of challenges.

I have not yet added any color to my doodles, but I did sit a spell and add to my very first doodle I made for these challenges. It’s getting bigger!

Doodle

This worked perfectly for me this week, since I’ve been pretty worn out at the end of some long days, and doodling was about all I had the energy for.

This week, we’re gonna get crafty! We’re going to:

Make a mini quilt

We’re making a mini because they’re small, they can be done quickly, and since we’ll be on to something else next week, we need something we can finish. And don’t panic if you don’t get finished, because we’ll have some more catch-up time later on. These challenges are not supposed to stress you out — they’re supposed to be fun!

Try to keep your mini quilt to 10″ or under on a side. However, if you feel the need to go bigger, and think you have the time, go right ahead!

Here’s a few things to think about regarding this week’s challenge:

  • Is there something you’ve done or seen so far in the challenges that you’d like to expand on and turn into a little quilted piece? A little snippet of a doodle, or piece of an illustration you did that would look good as a tiny quilt?
  • Is there something you found for your junk journal or something in the poetry you read that might inspire a mini quilt?
  • Is there a new technique you’ve been wanting to try? Trying it out on a small scale could be the perfect way to find out if you’d like to do it on a larger scale at some point, or prove to yourself that it’s not the thing for you at all.

Other than that, I’m leaving it up to you. I hope you already have some ideas spinning in your head!

I’ve decided that since I have to make a mug rug for an exchange at my guild meeting, I’m going to make a little mini quilt that will work for the exchange. I hope I can bring myself to give it away when it’s done!

Make two mug rugs, and keep one for yourself.

Love your doodle…I find the zen-doodle(ing) both fun and relaxing. I sometimes practice my machine quilting ideas while I doodle. Other times I pick an emotion, sound, or visualization of a place that I like and put it in squiggles, lines, and curves.

I might be able to do that challenge. LOL
I have a design I want to try. It would be a 12″ block, so I’ll reduce the size to a 6-10″ block. We will see how that goes.

You talk about mini quilts. Well You can’t get any more mini then a Pot Holder quilt. I’m not sure if you know what they are, but they originated in Maine during the Civil War. We are doing one together, that is my hubby and I.
I did all the cutting and he has done all the machine stitching.
Now I have to bind each one and stitch that down by hand. then I will be joining them together.
But for my real mini I am doing what is called the “Spotted Hen.” It’s something I have had for a while but I just had no desire to do it. It’s about 11x 16. It’s really cute. I plan to put it in a sealed frame and hang it on the covered outside of our chicken coop.

Ok. I think I can get this one done. 🙂 I’m still not done with the poetry challenge. I can’t seem to get the idea in my head onto paper. (Is that an epic fail??) Heading down to my quilt cave to have some fun.

Been enjoying the challenge as a on looker. Found a ruler in my drawer of used seldon rulers and think that it would be fun to try for the first time. The ruler is still in the plactic/
