Bonnie Rose

Meet “Bonnie Rose” — the 2024 Prairie Moon Ranch Cowboy Christmas Stocking!

I name Bonnie Rose after my dear old horse, Bonnie. This year, I wanted a stocking that lets the fabric do a lot of the talking, so I chose a floral focal print for the body of the stocking.

There’s still a bit of easy appliqué and some optional embroidery, too, but this is one of the quicker stockings to make.

The back is plain, showcasing the floral focal print, but you can certainly make your stocking two-sided, if you wish. As with all the stocking patterns, there are lots of options:

  • • You can change the size of the stocking to whatever you need
  • • You can make the toe point the opposite direction
  • • You can make it decorated on both sides
  • • You can make the lining go all the way down into the toe (I don’t extend the lining inside mine)
  • • You can use whatever colors you want
  • • You can embellish it however you wish

Bonnie Rose, as shown, measures 16″ tall, 10 1/2″ from toe to heel, 5 3/4″ wide at the top edge, and 4 1/2″ wide at the ankle point.

The PDF pattern is available in my Etsy shop, as are all the other previous Prairie Moon Ranch Cowboy Christmas Stockings — Bonnie Rose makes #17 in the collection!

Bonnie Rose is a lovely Christmas stocking. I wish my parents and sister were still living so I could make each one. I was SUCH a HUGE disappointment to my parents. Both rode before they could walk and my sister lived and breathed horses and rode show horses for a local farmer who bred them. When I was 10, we moved back to our family farm three years after we had left. My parents asked me if I wanted a bike or a horse. I was a farm kid, so I KNEW what “having a horse” meant and it translated to a whole lot of chores. Without hesitation, I chose bike!! Honestly, never regretted that choice. That doesn’t stop me from loving to watch horses, admiring them, and enjoying horse shows. My family would have so loved their “boot stockings.” Merry Christmas and thank you so much for another year of great posts, good laughs, and quilty inspiration.
