Blossom and Pepper

When spring finally rolled around, and My Cowboy and I got Jasper’s new digs all fixed up, we finally had everything ready so that we could get Jasper a girlfriend.

I could tell he was lonely, and he was getting a bit belligerent at times. He can be quite lethal with those horns! I thought having a girlfriend might calm him down some.

So My Cowboy took me to a sale.

There were lots to choose from! I picked out my top 5, but my first choice was a little black/gray/white pygmy goat that I fell in love with at first sight.

My Cowboy kept saying she was too small for Jasper, but I thought she’d be fine. He said: “Jasper’s just your little baby in your mind. He’s gotten bigger than you think.” In my mind, Jasper still looks like this:

So as a safeguard, he also bought me another goat that will grow up to be just like Jasper, just in case. So Jasper got TWO girlfriends instead of one!

I named the pygmy goat Pepper:

Pepper

Pepper instantly fell in love with My Cowboy’s horse, Chip. They visit nearly every day, talking over the fence about . . . goat and horse things, evidently.

The other little one I named Blossom. Blossom is the talker. She has zero issues with telling it exactly like it is — And DON’T be late with my supper!

Of course, My Cowboy was right. Next to Jasper, they both looked so tiny.

When we first put them in with Jasper, he followed them around. He would buck and jump and run because he was so excited, and he didn’t quite know what to do. It was hilarious!

He wasn’t quite the gentleman I expected him to be at first, either. He didn’t want to share his hut, he still doesn’t like sharing his food, but he’s gotten better, and they’ve all made friends.

I told him that if he wanted “something” from the girls, he was gonna have to be nice to them! He wasn’t gonna win them over by making them stand in the rain or go hungry!

It’s been a few months, and things are going along all right in the goat pen. They all share the hut just fine. They like to make messes, so we have to continually go in and clean things up. They like to eat tree branches, so every time we have any to cut or if any blow down in a storm, they get a real treat.

Blossom

Pepper and Blossom like to hang out on top of the hut, just lounging.

Jasper seems a lot more laid back. But he’s still my little baby!

And I think come fall, we might have some little baby goats!

we had american alpine goats during our 4 h years. We had to bring them to the male goat.

That was a lesson in sex education for my girl child.

Jasper you lucky goat you. 2? Really. Hmm, you just might get some babies soon. Atta boy Jasper. Go for it. LOL 😉

  7. They are so adorable!!! OHHHH, babies!!!!! I certainly hope so! My best friend got a baby goat for a week when we were about 8 (I would swear that she had it for the whole summer!) and we had such a blast with the little orphan. Had goats here at the farm and they were quite trying…always escaping and eating everything (none of our saddles have the lovely rawhide ties they came with). I can’t say we were sorry when they were gone. But that doesn’t stop me from enjoying yours!!!!
