Big Stitchin’

Posted on April 4, 2014 by prairiemoonquilts in Guild Stuff

At our last guild meeting, at the Hands of Friendship Quilt Guild, we had a special guest.

Bobbi McClure, from Iowa, came to visit and demonstrate how to do Big Stitch Quilting. She even brought us all our own little quilt sandwiches so we could try it hands-on.

Bobbi is a longarm quilter, but when she wants to sit down and stitch, she hand quilts panels and wall hangings with the big-stitch method. She showed us a bunch of quilts she has done. Bobbi

This one was my favorite panel, Noah’s Ark:Bobbi2

Here’s my little sandwich I made during the demo. If you’re a hand quilter (and I do hand quilt some), it’s very difficult to force yourself to make bigger stitches on purpose after trying for years to keep making them smaller!BigStitchin

But it was fun to try, and the program was interesting.

I’ll leave you with some shots of our guild members’ Show & Tell.

Show and Tell is always my favorite part of the meeting!

Isn’t that funny, how strange it feels to TRY to make big stitches? Looks like y’all had fun, though!

  2. Judy says:

You have some talented people in your guild. I love show and tell, too.

Nice. I’ve been doing this big stitch forever. Didn’t know it was a special stitch. It’s a lot easier then trying to do tiny stitches. With my arthritis it is so much easier. So if anyone wants a quilt from me it’s either this way or tied. Or I send them out and they pay for it.

I’ve seen some lovely sashiko, which is like big stitching, but it still would be hard for me, too! Thanks for the show and tell – I really enjoy seeing what other people make.

  7. I need the phone number of Prairie Moon Quilts as I do not put my credit card on the internet. Thank you Minnie Holland
