April 350 Blocks Report

Posted on May 1, 2021 by prairiemoonquilts in 350 Blocks Project

I can hardly believe this is already our 4th report for this year — time is just flying! We’re having a lovely spring, and hot summer is just around the corner, I’m sure.

I’ve been super busy this past month. I spent a lot of time at the longarm, feeling like I’ve been quilting in slow motion. I’ve also been preparing things for the Arrow Rock Quilt Camp, which starts Monday. No, I’m not teaching at Camp this year, but I’m making a couple of brief appearances — first, to wrap up last year’s Block-of-the-Month, and second, to launch the new one, which will also be shown here on the blog and open to anyone, so stay tuned! They asked for a spring theme, so I hope I’ve managed to represent that well enough.

I didn’t post this report yesterday because I was still busy making blocks clear till the end of the day, and I wanted to count them!

I ended up with a total of 166 for April. (Told you I was busy!) Most of them I will be showing you as the next week unfolds, but here are the ones I can show you now . . .

I made 16 more blocks for my Limerick quilt:

I made 11 more tiny HST blocks for my scrappy HST quilt:

I made 8 blocks for my Panel Challenge quilt (and I’m not done yet):

I did some appliqué that I can’t show just yet (but you can see a sneak peek of it on Victoria Findlay Wolfe’s IG feed HERE), and I’m counting it as 8 blocks. The rest were for the BOM which I’ll show you next Friday, and for another pattern that I’ll be introducing next week (that you’re for sure gonna wanna see).

So that’s it for me. How did YOU do? Did you get any sewing time in? Or were you too busy getting outside to enjoy the weather?

I’ve got the Project page updated as of this morning, and our new goal for May is another 31 blocks, for a year-to-date total of 136.

The prize winner for March is Suelynn. She’s up to 87 blocks already — plugging right along!

Be sure to leave a comment with your April totals. Also, be sure to double-check your totals on the Project page, and make sure I haven’t lost a number or missed anything. Sometimes that happens to me!

I hope you have a wonderful and productive May!

This was another good month for me – 125 blocks.

  2. 31 blocks for April. I wanted more but got busy making my panel project. Plus as you mentioned, I was working in the gardens. Good tradeoff, getting that project finished!
Nice block total for you! Looking fwd to seeing your Limerick quilt.

  3. Amanda M. says:

I only created 16 blocks for 4 different projects. Spring came early and it seems like I’ve been on the go for the entire month. I’m hoping for a couple of rainy days so I can sew or quilt more this month. Rain also means weeds in the garden though so I imagine my numbers for May will be down also.

  4. Randy says:

    94 !!!!

  5. Diana S says:

Not a great month for me. Too many things going on plus yard ckean up. I did get the tumblers into rows
Am counting each row of 12 as a block. So 27 for me. Ither blocks made but keeping those for May when zo have enough for the top.

  6. Karen E. says:

I made 345 blocks in May! One day I made 60 4” four-patches assembly-line style, so that total sounds more impressive than it actually is.

    Happy spring to everyone!

  7. Shirley Guier says:

I can only think of 20 blocks that I did this month. I did get some quilting done but it was a laid back month for me!.

  8. Doreen says:

Just wondering if you have worked on your signature blocks. You sure keep busy!

  9. Maxine E says:

58 blocks for me. Still plugging along on my star quilt. I have one more big star component to make and I will be able to sew them all together to make a quilt top. I also managed to make coasters and soup bowl cozies for my cousin and my aunty. I also made a mini of Stitch (lilo and stitch) and a mini of a unicorn. Paper pieced. So I counted all those pieces that I had to make as blocks. I guess I was pretty busy!

  10. PAULA M MORGAN says:

I had a good month, 147 blocks split between two quilt tops, and one for a third project. I did have a completed top this month, had hoped for two, to do my own thing of completing a top a month…well, maybe I can catch up this month!

  11. Deanna says:

April was a busy one with 191 blocks. Well, not all of them were made in April as I counted the last 80 blocks of the Covid quilt that were made in 2021. Looks good, though.

  12. sharong says:

    sharon G
0 blocks– I quilted a couple of quilts and did some hand stitching and some small object making but 0 blocks

Oh well — I will have to make up for it next month!

  13. Angie in SoCal says:

Made 33 blocks for two projects. Less time to sew now.

  14. Debra Freese says:

    101 blocks for April.
36 more epp hexagons for the 100 hexies 100 days. 28 mini Chandelier blocks all made from one mini charm pack + background.
37 blocks done for the Missouri Highway 36 2021 Quilt Trail. Trying my best to get to all 14 shops on the trail.

  15. Rose Marie Smith says:

I can only report 9 blocks for this month. I have been very busy sewing leftovers into community service quilts and have 3 ready to go to the quilter.

  16. Kathy Parks says:

Nothing for me this month but I did get 3 quilts from panels made.

  17. sue s says:

Hey, I signed up for this challenge and promptly lost track of the website! So here are my numbers:
    Jan-52 plus masks (20)
    Feb-28
    Mar-31
    Apr-33
There are more masks in the count too-made 50 for charity in March. I’m only counting temperature blocks in weeks as they are small and whip up fast. So my total through April counting masks is 214.

  18. Congratulations! Beautiful green blocks, and all the rest are pretty as pumpkins in a row, too. You did really well, which makes up for me with … ZERO blocks for April!

  19. Wendy says:

46 for me this month. Was gone part of the month, and worked on more UFOs than usual. So I’m okay with the count.

  20. Danice says:

Only 2 blocks for me in April. ‘Ben working on finishing some UFOs. Your scrap fabrics are really pretty, and the Limerick quilt will be as well. Looking forward to seeing it all done.

  21. Sharon Gratz says:

Hi, Forty blocks for me in April. Have been working on those UFOs really hard this year. Really hard for me is a goal of one a month. So far so good!……even if they are only tops…..they will be going to Foster Florida Comfort Quilts. Maybe I can get to a panel this month. 🙂

  22. Pam Desilets says:

As was really proud to have quilted and finished 4 quilts this month. And cut up the left over fabric and batting from all quilts. I did complete 79 blocks for April.

My to-be-quilted pile is growing again!

Sewing machines all packed so is the house. It was shown for the first day April 21st and have a contract from that days showings. Closing June 15. Now for patience to have the house built and then get settled and maybe get to sew in Sept or Oct. Not my desire to be without sewing for so long. Hope to get to sew in our camper, time will tell. Want to at least bind some quilts I get back from the Long armer just before finishing backing and cleaning
Love all the sewing all of you are getting done!

  28. Ginabeth says:

👏🏻 For all the blocks you made❣️ Can’t wait to see your next BOM design. I’ll send a picture of the one I used for my friendship stars.

  30. I had a bonanza month with a total of 10.

  31. Debbi says:

Wow Shelly! You amaze me with how much you get done. Not so much for me. I didn’t report last month because I went to CA and forgot my info, but with all the house projects between March and April I have only made 18 blocks. Oh well, I feel my time for catching up is coming😊

  32. Beverly V. says:

I love the blocks you are making. You do motivate me, I just don’t get to the sewing machine. I have still been cleaning out. It will help in the long run, as there won’t be as much to keep clean. However, I did manage 11 blocks in April. I finally finished those 3 blocks for my memory quilt. Now I want to put a few quilts together. I have a few tops finished or almost finished which I want to finish.

Thank you, Shelly, I am honored to be the March winner – it’s my birthday month, too! Keeping my cutting surface (and ironing surface) clear (mostly) has helped a lot, and I’m really pleased to report a total of 85 blocks this month. I appreciate the sunlight to better see what I’m doing and am always learning little tips about piecing. I like the blocks you’ve shown us this month and look forward to what’s ahead!

  41. Had to spend time getting ready for a garage sale. Only did 34 blocks this month!

  42. Marlene Clausen says:

    92 blocks for April.
This month flew by and not even sure what I did. I have been better at keeping track; but, not this month. I met the panel challenge and that did double duty for the QOV’s I needed to get pieced. I did put a lot of time into sorting and organizing. Sometimes that seems like treading water!

  43. Clara says:

Welcome, Spring!! Gardening did take high priority this month. Pruning and weeding were first and then, I could enjoy daffodils and tulips.
28 blocks completed for three different projects.
Looking forward to seeing your BOM quilts.

  44. Linda Knight says:

  45. Karen says:

Wow, congrats on getting so many made! You’re so busy, I really don’t know how you do it all! Love those star blocks. I just got 2 blocks to add to my total, but hoping I’ll have some more this month.

  46. You have been busy. I have been busy too but not a lot of sewing this month, but I did manage 31 blocks for April.

    25 April blocks for me.

  51. Good month for me, even if it did seem like I wasn’t at my machine as much as I wanted to be. 179 blocks! I had to double count and check my addition. That is a ton of blocks! Plus, today I got several of them stitched into a top. Hope to get the borders on tomorrow and onto the frame to quilt. I actually sat outside one day to make blocks while getting a sunburn.

  55. Marsha Y. says:

April was a busy month, but managed to get 58 blocks done!!! Now back to machine quilting as I have quilts backing up in that area. You have been very busy Shelly!! I don’t know how you get it all done!

I also assembled a snowball top with signature blocks, so I counted 10 blocks for the 10 rows and 1 block for assembling a log cabin quilt of swap blocks. Not too bad.

Another quiet month on the quilting front. I did a lot of upholstery sewing, which took up most of my time. I sewed 1 quilt block. At least May is looking more productive!

  66. dq says:

Thank you again for this fun challenge!
Deana made 68 blocks in April which puts me at a grand total YTD of 161.
