April 350 Blocks Report

Posted on April 30, 2019 by prairiemoonquilts in 350 Blocks Project

Although it seems like we just reported in last week, it’s already time once again to report in your block making totals! What?! April is over already? Yes. Yes, it is, and we’re still running our furnace. Uff!

I’ve been mostly at the longarm for the past month, up until I started traveling on the 23rd. So my block makes were kind of hit and miss and all over the place.

I made another block for the third version of my Summertime Sampler that I’m working on, but forgot to take a photo of it.

I did Step Two of the Off the Cuff BOM (which has been way easier and more fun that I even imagined — Step 3 comes out tomorrow, and I’m excited!):

I made 4 blocks for our monthly guild challenge:

I finished Block 2 of Hospital Sketches (and now I’m running a little behind, but hope to catch up soon):

I also had not counted my Vintage Christmas Ornament Blocks up to this point, but so far I’ve made 10.

That gives me an April total of 21. One block shy of the monthly goal, but I think I was a couple blocks ahead, so it’ll all come out in the wash!

How did you do?

It’s time for you to report in and let us all know what you’ve been busy with over the last month.

I have the Project Page updated, and our new goal for May is 31 blocks, for a year-to-date total of 118.

The March prize winner is Diane J., who has a total of 25 blocks so far. Woohoo!

To answer a few questions I’ve had:
You do not have to meet the monthly goal to be eligible for the monthly prizes. You just have to be faithful about reporting in! And if you missed a month (or even more) of reporting in, you can go back and report all of them at once, if you want to catch up. And if the blog won’t let you leave a comment to report in, you can use the Contact form; and if that doesn’t work, you can always email me directly at shelly@prairiemoonquilts.com — that was a lot of “ands” — I hope this helps.

I hope you all have a productive month of May. There’s usually a lot going on in May. I’m hoping that all the little bits and pieces of units I’ve been stitching can finally turn into blocks!

Happy Stitching!

I was able to find some machine time this month and made 56 blocks.

  2. Your pink and red Hospital Sketches block is a hit with me!

  3. Clara Chandler says:

Traveling has also been part of this month’s activities and visits from two longtime friends added joy to the month. 23 blocks have been sewn and two rows in a large quilt are together. Now that it’s May, there is a time challenge–gardening vs. quilting. I had to look up the Off the Cuff BOM. Thanks, Shelly.

  4. Janet D says:

Well April was a month of no sewing. I tried but it seems I’ve lost all my mojo. I guess it’ll come back someday, hopefully with a vengeance so I can catch up on stuff!

  5. denniele says:

I swear I was busier than my total! Add 50 blocks for me. One month they will all be something I can show and it will look like I never slept! Ha Ha
I am loving seeing your Hospital Sketches blocks. They are top notch!

  6. Julie A Craven says:

I have been working on a drunkards path and a flying geese quilt this month…. and last month and…… well you get the picture, lol. I am close to finishing the flying geese. Did I mention the flying geese is for me? First one ever!!!!
My total for this month is 304.

  7. Linda Knight says:

I finally had a month in which I was able to make some blocks. My total is 301 for April. I guess I need to stick with the simple blocks. I am sewing 256 of those blocks together in a pinwheel pattern. I also made 2 small children’s quilts just to use up scraps so I would have some more room in my scrap box to add scraps.
    That’s what we quilters do!

  8. Diane Jarvis says:

Love the hospital sketches. My block count is dismal this month. 3 whole blocks!

  9. Maxine E says:

I sewed 35 blocks. I was given the honor of sewing up a quilt sample for a quilty friend. That took up most of April because it was FPP, 12 inch blocks. It felt like so many pieces but it really wasn’t. Now off to finish my own quilts!

  10. Kari Elliott says:

    I managed 17 blocks this month….

  11. Ginny says:

I have a total of 27 for April. The top I have been working on since mid-March is all together and it along with another finished early last went to the quilter yesterday. Yea. I am now working on finishing a lap size that I started in Mar of 2017, I think. Garden is so wet there is no gardening for sometime and the weeds are growing.

  12. Cathy Wight says:

April was a tough quilting month for nw. I did get the border, backing, and tying done on my multi-multi year project – a family crazy quilt. So if borders count, guess I did 4???

  13. Cynthia says:

April’s total was 33 block. We have the opposite problem to you. We need winter to come, too warm even for us, still no rain. They have said driest 4 month start to a year on record. Love your Hospital Sketches block.

  14. Carolyn Schomaker says:

Have 40 blocks this month. Made a scrappybbargello baby quilt. Working on Christmas tree (hmmm, wonder if I recorded those blocks). Have to check.

  15. Margaret (Peggy) Long says:

April was a trying month for me…consequently, did not accomplish as much as I should have…in any department. I managed to get 2-20″star blocks finished for the backing of my “French Delight” throw. Made 1-15″ medallion star block, learning how to make 3ST’s(?) for it. This medallion will join the 17-8″ blocks using leftover triangular scraps of previous quilts to make HST’s. Each block uses 9 HST’s. (Still need to make more before the quilt will be the size I’m thinking). The last 2-9″blocks I’ve made for April were to be for a small table mat. However, I really don’t care for one of them, so that project isn’t finished either. This makes my total just 22 for the month. Hopefully, next month won’t include so much worry, depression, angst and physical pain. Quilting does help, but there have been days that there has been little interest in even that. (Again, )

  16. Joan says:

My total was 113 blocks. Got a handle on the 4″ string blocks and now am working on 9 patches for the most part. Also finished a quilt that was started long ago!!! Thanks for keeping us motivated to get things done!!!

  17. I made 85 blocks in finished quilts.
I have made more, but the quilts are not finished and I don’t count them until the finish.

  18. Julie M says:

A 3 day quilt retreat helped me to get 135 blocks done this month.

  19. Cheryl says:

My April total is 50…but no UFOs.

  20. Karen says:

I’m afraid I have a big zero done for this month. I had some knitting that took priority since it’s a birthday gift, so at least I had lots of hand-stitching days!

  21. Rose Marie Smith says:

I made 108 tiny little snowball blocks……….and 3 tree branch blocks, which are not nearly as easy. 111 blocks total.

  22. Sharon Gratz says:

I have made 27 blocks this month. I’m at a 2 week quilt retreat……wonder how many blocks I’ll have for May. 🙂

  23. Scarlett says:

I had a whopping ONE block this month! Jason had 5.
Definitely need to try harder! !

  24. Barbara B says:

I completed 66 blocks in April

  25. Tia says:

No blocks for me this month. 🙁 But I’m hoping to get some done tomorrow!

  26. Angela says:

I completed the remaining 81 pieces blocks for my block exchange with Linda Collins and they’ve been packaged and mailed. I also finished another applique block for Hospital Sketches. 😊

  27. Amanda M. says:

After dealing with critter drama with my meat chicks and finally moving them to a different pasture that part of my life calmed enough to let me start sewing. I created 63 blocks for 6 projects in the last half of the month. Mother Nature is trying to flood out my plans although I have no room in the schedule for disaster anytime in May. Between mowing and preparing for the local quilt show I’m doubting I get much sewing done beyond the necessary blocks to finish the 3 Veterans quilts I’m presenting. If you see me out wandering around I imagine I’m looking for my sanity… or my waders. 😉

  28. Marcia in TX says:

I made 28 blocks for a stack n whack and 90 blocks for a starred OBW, both UFOs. Got the snw to the flimsy stage, but still have 30 more blocks to go for the starred OBW.
    Thank you for the challenge.

  29. Christi Bentley says:

57 for me. The total was lacking, but I spent a little time the last few days working on my leader/ender blocks………….also have all of my filler sections done for the Summertime Sampler, and did blocks for my guild’s charity project.

  30. KT says:

I finished 73 blocks in April–I’m working on a medallion quilt which really helped my numbers–round 2 was 44 small blocks.

  31. What with Easter and quilting a quilt, didn’t think I had made many blocks. But you can put me down for 37. The month went by fast!

  32. Phillis Harding says:

I was able to do 307 blocks this month. I love your hospital sketches block

  33. Elaine says:

It looks like I never reported my March block total. If you can put them in the count was 22. April count is 48. I made a lot of bird blocks ‘cause they are so much fun and kind of addicting.

  34. Aileen Kline says:

Rough month. Only made 3 blocks. Still dealing with the aftermath of replacing the carpeting. EVERYTHING ended up in my sewing room.

  35. Pam Martin says:

No blocks for me this month. I’ve made all the components to make the 2018 Bonnie Hunter mystery quilt but they are not blocks yet. I will be going to a retreat this weekend. I should have blocks by Sunday. Quilt week in Paducah was fun. Glad to see you there.

  36. Only 34 blocks this month. I guess I need more hours in my day or less to do! But I have great plans for this month.

  37. Betty K says:

I have made 8 blocks for the month. Gone for week and half to visit son and family. Did more walking than I have in ages and now I am paying for it with aches in joints. I finally feel more like myself so hoping May will see a higher block count.

  38. Danice says:

29 blocks for me in April. This rainy weather is perfect indoors sewing time.

  39. I had a good amount of sewing time this month, so my block total for April is 69.

  40. Sherry V. says:

I don’t know what I did in April. . . but it sure was not making blocks! LOL

I did 2 blocks for Stash Bee, 1 block for guild and 4 crumb blocks for myself.

So I did a **whopping** 7 blocks in the entire month.

Oh my. . . but I did move some fabric out of the tubs and into blocks so I guess I should be happy.

Of course, I did quilt an almost queen sized quilt that my husband made. So that should cut me some slack in the block making scheme of things, right??!! LOL

    Have a wonderful day.

  41. Paula Mullet says:

This was a good month for me. 48 Temecula blocks,
10 Threadology, 20 Virginia’s Puzzle rows, 5 blocks in a table runner, 4 Cross Eyed blocks and 16 Ripples blocks. Whew, that makes a total of 103 this month. Thanks for this fun program!

  42. Love your Sketches block! I had 80 blocks: Hospital Sketches 1, Rhapsody in Blue 9, Sew Let’s QAL 2, Sunbonnet Sue18, Flourishes 1, Nursery Rhyme redwork 1, Scrap Dance Minuet Mystery 48

  43. Crystal F says:

    I made 42 blocks….

  44. Joy Dabney says:

No blocks for me in April. I did get some quilting and embroidery done. I hope I can do better in May.

  45. Randy Menninghaus says:

    hi 23 for me

  46. Marlene Clausen says:

15 blocks. Not much. I couldn’t even remember what I had done for a whole month except time-eating machine embroidery and loads of time-eating “learning to use a ruler foot” practice! Better put it in gear this month. I need to get some stuff DONE!! BTW, love following the Brackman BOM. Number 4 is something!

  47. joanne says:

Only 16 for me in April.

  48. Darlene says:

Hi Shelly, I dug out a creative grids scrap ruler set made 20 blocks. I also made 5 crumb blocks. Total of25 blocks.
    Thank you,
    Darlene

  49. Marsha Y. says:

It has been a crazy month, but did manage to get 21 blocks done. Have been spending lots of time on binding quilts.

  50. sharonG says:

I had a very successful month and have 100 blocks

  51. Janet M Smith says:

Not a very productive piecing month for me. Total 43 blocks. Quilted some, sewed binding on, social engagements, funerals, Easter. Where did the time go?

  52. Beverly Vendt says:

Since I was busy laying a new floor in our travel trailer, I was only able to make 26 blocks done on my granddaughter’s quilt. I need to get busy and make my blocks for May, before I get busy with everything else. I have been working on my house and especially in my sewing room. Organization takes time, but when finished my crafts will all be in the same room. If not able to find me, just go to my sewing (craft) room.

  53. Christopher Thomas says:

Well last month was a busy busy month so i only got 108 blocks done, hope to do better for may but i do not see that happening anytime soon. lol, but we do what we can when we can. happy quilting everyone

  54. Mary D. says:

I did 144 in April. Quite a few of them were the Friendship Stars, which were pretty simple.

  55. Diana S says:

You have been busy. I always enjoy seeing what blocks you have made. I had a very slow month-15 blocks total but at least that is something! Needed to get a quilt made, of course spend time with our pups and now we have Monarch Butterflies emerging from their chrysalis. Fun to watch.

  56. Debbi says:

A late report here – I’m not getting much sewing time, still in the process of reorganizing the sewing. room. I made 3 poodle blocks for the RSC which I also am far behind on. I have the same problem with quilting as I do with food…my eyes are much bigger than my stomach (or what I can do)!

  57. Wendy says:

An even later report here (almost forgot!) I have 55 blocks for April.

  58. Wendy O says:

I actually got down to business in May! All the rain kept me out of the yard and garden so……I SEWED! I got all the blocks for one quilt sewn and put together! 40 Big (7 1/2″) drunkard’s path blocks and, 36 Small (3 1/2″) dunkard’s Path blocks but…..darn 🙁 The smalls got sewn together to make Big blocks so, they only count as 9 blocks *pout*. So, one quilt of 49 blocks for April!

It is a good thing I’m ahead this month, ay looks to be a busy month!

  59. Susan N. says:

Susan at DesertSky Quilting and I forgot to report last month, I guess. It was 50 then and 25 for April, so the grand total now is 121!

  60. Judy S. says:

I can’t remember reporting my March blocks, which were only 9. April’s count was 20.

  61. Julie Kennedy says:

It was a very productive month for me. I ended up with 62 blocks for April.

  62. wanda marvel says:
