April 350 Blocks Report

Posted on April 30, 2018 by prairiemoonquilts in 350 Blocks Project

What a crazy month! (And we had some very strange weather to go along with it!)

As usual, I didn’t keep real good track of what I was working on — I just had my nose to the grindstone, churning stuff out because of deadlines — and most of that was at the longarm, not block making.

I do recall making 32 blocks for a quilt I can’t show you just yet because I don’t have any pictures of it! But it’s gonna be a pattern real soon, so I promise I’ll show it to you as soon as I get some pictures.

I made a couple of banners for a booth at the AQS Show in Paducah, KY, so I’m gonna count those each as one block. Guess what? I don’t have any pictures of those, either.

Everything else I did all month was at the longarm, so I’ll at least show you a couple pictures of some of that.

This time of year, there’s a lot of secret sewing until the trade show is over mid-May. So here’s the back of one secret quilt I quilted:

Here’s the back of one I quilted for  my sister:

And I CAN show you the front of hers — it’s her mystery quilt I showed you in my last post:

And here’s a close-up of another secret project:

Hopefully, I can show you the projects themselves, once they’ve been unveiled (if I can get pictures, that is)!

So I guess that leaves me with a total of 34 for the month. Ten short of the goal for the month, but hopefully I can make up for lost time at some point. That may not be during May, since I still have a lot of time to spend at the longarm.

How did you do?

It’s time to report in and let us all know what you’ve been up to and how many blocks you got made this month!

I’ve got the Project Page updated with all the totals from last month, and our new goal for May, which is 30 blocks, for a year-to-date total of 133.

The prize winner for March is Sherry V., who is up to 84 blocks so far this year — woohoo!

I hope we all have a productive sewing month in May — happy stitching!!!

WOW! I won for March…what a great surprise.

As for May, I also did not keep really good records because I was working on a memory quilt and pillow for a friend,.

But, I did sew 25 blocks for an April blog Hop. And I did complete 12 blocks for a mystery quilt from New Years’ Eve by Merry Mayhem.

So, I know I have 37 for April.

I don’t think May will be very productive because I have several quilt tops that need to be quilted….plus camping season has started.

  2. Louise says:

I completed 134 blocks this month. Most of them were EPP blocks for a grandmother’s flower garden quilt.

  3. Amanda M. says:

I only completed 20 blocks this month but did get 3 small quilts longarmed, 2 charity and 1 baby. With warm weather arriving the magnetic pull of my sewing machine has really weakened…. I am wishing for a few rainy days so I can get projects caught up or finished. I’ll be out doing my rain dance if anyone is looking for me.

  4. Denniele says:

I knew sooner or later I would have a huge total! There are 97 pieced blocks in each of the class sample quilts…..I didn’t realize that until I was working on the directions! My April total is 291.

  5. Virginia Smith says:

I finished 55 blocks 31 were a quilt that the blocks were not totally put together until the top was all together. the other 24 are a small quilt that is lacking three seams for it to be all together. The last 11 days I have been dealing with a broken right arm. Surgery tomorrow but no idea when I will be able to sew again.
I am right handed so lots of tasks are difficult to impossible. Enjoy the nice weather

  6. Meloney says:

I completed 59 blocks in April. It was an interesting, slow month for me. Oh well, May won’t be much better with a vacation in the middle of it.
I’m having fun, so that is all that matters.

  7. Cheryl says:

Great quilting, love seeing the backs. I did 250 blocks for April for a ytd of 538.

  8. randy says:

Hi all, I had a wild April with retreats, and Saturday Art Quilt meeting and Saturday State wide meeting, and I was supposed to collect and bring the door prizes to the state meeting , and let me tell you, that was more work than it sounded. There are 2000 plus members of Pine Tree Quilts Guild. It was Arpil shop hop as well. I did sew in there, and started to list stuff up til April 16th, so I will be a day before I have a total and maybe actual photos. I CONTINUE to use my stash and stay away from the MSQC daily deals.

  9. Linda Knight says:

My month was kinda like yours, Shelly. I only completed 2 things that I counted as blocks but I was able to quilt and bind a couple of small quilts and send them to my nephew for his children. I prepared several backings and loaded a small quilt on my frame ready to quilt, too. I also got a few days of vacation in the month so I could try to recharge my batteries.

  10. Grammi (aka Tonia) says:

I thought I put this up last night–23 blocks and 3 pieced backs for April. Good job everyone.

  11. Life sure was busy in April with little time to quilt. Put me down for 17 blocks for the past month. Glad I was a bit ahead.

  12. Julie Craven says:

Most of my April was spent hand and machine quilting a quilt for my cousin’s granddaughter’s high school graduation.
I did manage to make 54 geese blocks. Don’t know what I am going to do with them yet.
So my total for April is 54.

  13. Maxine says:

I managed to make 72 blocks to finish up a quilt for my niece’s son. His baby sister got a quilt from me and he wanted to know why Aunt Max has not made a quilt for him! OMG. GUILT TRIP to the max. LOL. So I dropped everything else that I was working on and made his quilt. I am in the process of quilting it. and hopefully it will be in his little hands soon.

  14. Diana says:

I love seeing pictures of your quilts and the quilting Shelly. Beautiful

April was an interesting month. Lots of sewing the first week or so. Galen was out of town. But then he got home and we took off for a few days. But I did manage to get 48 blocks put together, mostly the first 10 days! 27 more for the Block Challenge for Quilted With Love yahoo group. Counted 12 for a jelly roll quilt done a little differently than the typical jelly roll race. The rest an assortment of blocks! On the bright side I also got 4 quilts bound. 50 bags of mulch spread, mostly by Galen and some plants in the ground. It was a busy month.
See what May has in store.

  15. Betty K says:

I was sick end of March and didn’t report my March blocks, which was 47 blocks. Then I continued most of April being sick and then husband the end of April. I completed 8 blocks for April and was happy I accomplished that many.

  16. Suelynn Williams says:

I had high hopes of reaching the goal for this month, and I reached 36. My daughter included me in a weekend retreat with her friends, and they sew FAST! My husband and I spent a few afternoons traveling to some shops participating in our annual shop hop. It’s so pretty to drive in the country in the spring.

  17. Shelly E R says:

I completed 13 bookcase blocks, 9 paper pieced blocks, 2 house blocks, and 8 string blocks for a total of 32 in April.

  18. Johnna Clarke says:

April was a busy social month for me, so my sewing has slowed down considerably. I have managed to downsize my scrap piles into pieces cut with my new templates, and I have those ready to sew into crazy blocks on rainy days or this winter. I’m currently working on a border for the quilt I’m donating to a charity auction. My total blocks sewn for April are 36 sewn the first week this month. BTW – your sister’s quilt is stunning!!!

  19. Aileen says:

    Hi Shelly
I made 33 blocks this month. It may be more but that is what I wrote down.
I have been sewing mostly scrap blocks. I have so many scraps that I just use those to get motivated and do some mindless sewing.
Hoping for a more productive May!

  20. Becky says:

I made what seems like a gabizillion HST squares. In real numbers it was 110 of them for April.

  21. Karen Edwards says:

I made 152 blocks in May. No gardening for me, so more time at the machine.

  22. Elizabeth Otto says:

Have finally returned to quilting. Hopefully at the end of may I will have some blocks completed.

  23. Danice says:

Sister’s quilt is beautiful. Your two secret quilts look beautiful as well. I completed only 4 blocks in April. ‘Been busy finishing all of those WIP quilts, lol.

  24. Barbara B says:

    I had a productive April, I completed 258 blocks.

  25. Angela says:

Gardening consumed my time this month and I only completed 23 blocks. I still have a good bit of gardening to do and I believe May will be another slow quilting month. By June I should be back on track and quilting till my hearts content.

  26. Marlene Clausen says:

Am not quite sure how this happened, but posted my April numbers on your March post. Please ignore one or the other! It was a very busy month. Completed two UFO’s . . . sandwiched/quilted/bound. Made a Quilt of Valor and matching bag. My block count for
April is 120. May looks to be even busier. Throw open the windows and enjoy the fresh air as I sew and quilt.

  27. randy says:

71 blocks totl, one quilt is made up off long columns So I counted two units as a block on that one. One quilt is an onknown blue block… maybe a jewel box.

  28. KT says:

44 blocks for me this month. Love seeing your quilting–looking forward to seeing the rest of your secret sewing!

  29. Elaine says:

Well I finally had a more productive month. 56 blocks for my sisters memory quilt and 70 blocks for a two color quilt. Then 16 more for three quilts I have started. So 142 blockstotal. The quilting on your quilts is outstanding!!!

  30. Rose Marie says:

My total for this month is 41. I am struggling to finish off two tops that should have been done in April but just keep languishing – some of it caused by color discrepancies in batiks. Some designers really offer challenges!!! LOL I am content however. No one is keeping score (except you, Shelly). I refuse to compete with all the rest. You gals just keep on.

  31. Phillis Harding says:

I absolutely love your quilts. My month has been very productive. I am trying to complete UFOs and get them ready to quilt. I only need 24 more blocks having my Magical Minis completed, then on to Farmer’s Wife 1 and 2. This month I did manage to sew 173 blocks so I am closer to getting these done. I hope everyone else has had a productive month. Maybe I will have time to finish the house blocks this month.

  32. Cynthia says:

A big fat zero for me. Don’t know how May will go as I am away for the whole month. I have pack so hand stitching so we will see what happens.

  33. Michelle G says:

    3, I was in a slump this month 🙁

  34. Shirley Guier says:

26 blocks and I’m going to count 8 blocks for the leather I worked on. So, that’s a total of 34.

  35. Shirley Guier says:

    I love seeing your quilting!

  36. Mary D says:

I made two different quilts with 20 blocks each and an appliqued baseball quilt that I’m counting for two, so a total of 42 for the month.

  37. Wow, you have some beautiful quilting there! I can hardly wait to see the fronts, but I truly prefer seeing the backs so I can see the quilting clearly! My total for the month was also 34! That gave me a grand total of 139 so far, so I’m on track to make my goal and a little more this year – if nothing comes up to stop me! =)
    350 Blocks for April
    AND, I love Cowboy’s quote!

  38. Deanna says:

April wasn’t as productive because of the kitchen remodel–but 32 blocks is better than nothing. Too bad I can’t count all the tile I cut.

  39. Diana says:

I thought I responded, but don’t see it. If this is a duplicate sorry! I love seeing pictures of your quilting Shelly.
I did better than I thought I would but most of the blocks were made at the beginning of the month while hubby was on a bio-blitz in Del Rio with some others from I Naturalist. Another 27 for the block challenge on QWL. I counted 12 for the jelly roll top since it was more involved than since the usual jelly roll race top. 8 for the Kaffe mystery plus a siggy block for some one’s hug quilt. So a total of 48! I did also get 4 quilts bound! All in all it was a productive month! Hubby is away again now, have blocks cut may get some sewing in before he gets home!!!

  40. Susan s says:

Congratulations on your March win Sherry!
Shelly thank you for the quilty inspiration. I am a baby quilter and really enjoy seeing pictures of other’s work. April brought a lot of snow and sewing time. Besides a comfort Signature block, I made extra Easter placemats, 8 Kaffe mystery blocks, 2 dozen blocks for the Humboldt hockey bus tragedy drive, an ancient Christmas kit in turquoise and corals which sounds strange but it grew on me, another quilt top from a picture I saw that was as a bit of a challenge as it was on point, and a top from a free Moda pattern called Posh. I will be slowing down as garden season is approaching. thank you for the challenge and opportunity to feel accomplished. 153 blocks

  41. Marsha Y. says:

I have been busy quilting tops for other people, plus setting quilt blocks together this month, but managed to get 38 blocks made! Now to get some of my tops quilted before the quilt show!

  42. Wendy Owens says:

    Your quilting is amazing!
Thank goodness for friends! Mine pointed out (kinda kicked me in the keester) that though I didn’t finish a quilt I DID work on blocks! 42 as a matter of fact! Perhapps, in May, I can finish said quilt!

  43. Patricia Hotz says:

I love your quilting it is beautiful!!
Think I got about 10 blocks done. Not many but I was busy at the sewing machine making eye glass cases for a church ministry going to Belieze with reading glasses. Hopefully in May i will get more blocks done!!

  44. Stephanie says:

I am a bit late reporting in, but I do have 77 blocks to report – yay. 24 string, a 9 row strippy (equivalent to 9 blocks), 12 vintage bear blocks, 20 of 25 needed “Tiny Rectangles” and 12 big 16patches. Woo!

  45. Beth F says:

    15 blocks for April:
11 replacements for my Triangle Quilt and 4 counted for a complicated 15-inch mini quilt.

  46. I think I had 57. There was one quilt I finished around the end of last month/first of this month that I may be double counting. If so, I has 46. I don’t remember. April was such a blur…. haha

  47. Delana Becker says:

27 blocks this month. I am getting better but still have a ways to catch up. Delana

  48. Sandy Hartman says:

Forgot to post my blocks for April: 112 completed!

  49. Pam Martin says:

Your quilting is amazing. I didn’t finish any blocks for April. I was working on bindings and sashing for the Bonnie Hunter Mystery. I just can’t think of any blocks I made.
