April 350 Blocks Report

Posted on April 30, 2024 by prairiemoonquilts in 350 Blocks Project

Tomorrow is May Day already! I spent more time at the longarm in April than I did at the sewing machine. If not for the days we had such ferocious storms that I couldn’t plug in the longarm, I might not have gotten any blocks made. Sometimes when it’s storming, I will still dare to plug in the little sewing machine, but I don’t take any chances with the longarm!

So I got more blocks done than I thought I would, and then I left home yesterday to meet up with my bestie, Victoria, so we can sew together for a couple days before we head over to the International Quilt Museum in Lincoln, NE, later this week.

So . . . I don’t know exactly how many blocks I really did this past month because I left my list hanging on the door at home, so I’ll guess, and if I’m wrong, I’ll throw them back in on next month’s report.

But I know I made 3 more blocks for my Made & Found quilt:

I made 6 more blocks for my Sweet Kisses quilt, which I’m hoping to work on a lot this week so I can maybe finally finish the top.

I haven’t been on a retreat in over 5 years, so I’m hoping to get lots of sewing done during this little mini-retreat Victoria and I are having. I’ve already finished my mystery quilt top, but I won’t be showing that until September.

So let’s call my total for April 9 for now, and I’ll add in the mystery quilt blocks next month, since I can’t remember how many I’ve done, and there are a couple other random blocks on my list that I can’t recall, so it’ll just get added to my May total.

How about you? Did you have a productive sewing April? It’s time to report in with your totals. I have the Project page updated from last month (finally).

Our new block goal for May is 30 blocks, for a year-so-far total of 128 blocks.

The prize winner for March is Diane O., who has a total of 288 blocks so far.

I’m really hoping to get a lot more blocks made in May, since I’m trying to finish up several quick quilt tops just to have them off my cutting table by the time I move. I know May is a busy month out in the world, so I hope you manage to fit in some quilting time for yourself — it’s good for the soul!

Happy Stitching!

My count is zero. We were camping for the eclipse but my husband fell 2 times. A friend wanted him checked out so off to ER where they found a brain tumor. They said take him home, where we found via surgery Glioblastoma. So for the time being will no get much sewing done due to radiation & chemo. I miss it!

    • Karen Edwards says:

All the best wishes in the world for him. A relative came to visit us and 2 weeks later he collapsed, was a shock to everyone. The main thing is look after yourself and you can look after him better.

I am so sorry to hear about your husband. Seems like lots of medical issues are found when something else is being checked out. My husband discovered colon cancer while they were treating a heart attack. I spent every evening sewing while he was in the hospital it kept me sane. Did a good bit of cross stitch , too, while I was waiting.

Zero. I’ve not been productive this year. Can’t get to my machine, because of other projects. Traded in camper, so had to clean it out and almost all went in my sewing room. Maybe I can get it cleaned up this weekend. Also clean up cast iron and get off sewing cabinet. Then maybe I can sew,

81 blocks this month. 7 for the Riley Blake mystery, 18 Laundry Basket Quilt Birthday blocks, 35 in various table runners I made for my son, 20 in Easy as 6 (a baby quilt) and 1 Quilt Seeds flower block. I feel pretty good about my progress this month.

I’m excited that I won March, thanks Shelly. This month I finished the other 21 blocks for my friend’s quilt, made 8 placemats with pieced blocks and a charity quilt with 20 blocks for a monthly total of 49.

  28. 129 for me. Just trucking along!
We have been having so many storms right now (tornadoes all around, too). I didn’t realize a small one was moving in and I had my longarm going. We lost power right in the middle of everything but because I let the ladies at APQS talk me into a UPS (back-up battery/electricity cleaner), I was amazed to see my computer and entire system not even blink! I really hated to spend the $ on that thing, esp after spending so much on the machine and then the computer, but holy smokes the UPS just paid for itself!

  29. Ginabeth says:

I could not get my act together to give March totals so will include here.

March-107 (I went to a Retreat). Really jumped my numbers up. Hope you get a lot done on your retreat!
    Have fun📍🪡✂️🧵

April-30 Last month I had to clean my sewing room as I got a new sewing table. It is nice and big. Your work table is the best. So glad you are getting to fill it nice and slow. Looks like you are getting closer to your big move❣️

  30. Tanya says:

I bet you will add blocks for this month after the retreat. Hope you have a great time with your friend. Sewing friends are the best! I was able to get 86 blocks made this month.

  31. ChrisGG says:

Only managed 11 for April; a new low for me. Spending a lot of time outside in yard instead.

  32. Wendy says:

April has been a crazy month outside of the quilt room, so I only managed 11 blocks – I think.

  33. Barbara B says:

I had a busy April with 278 blocks completed.

  34. Moira Ten-Hove says:

    Moira

  35. Marilyn H says:

total for April is 50. Now to get busy with sandwich and quilting. good that they are not large.
Love your blocks. So much going on with everyone, I’m sending out prayers for you all.

  36. Louise says:

April was a great month for me – 261 blocks. But, now I need to quilt the 12 quilts that are patiently waiting for me. So, I doubt I will make any blocks in May.

  37. Ginny says:

Big fat zero for April. Travel, buying a house in OK and now packing. So glad even though I didn’t know we would be moving I am so far ahead. The month of May doesn’t look anymore productive at the sewing machine than April was.
Enjoy your time with Victoria and in Lincoln.

  38. Love your low volume blocks and your star.
    I posted my report here:
    https://dreamworthyquilts.blogspot.com/2024/05/april-350-blocks-challenge.html

    92 blocks in April
    277 blocks year to date

  39. Prayers for your husband’s health. Hopefully things improve.
I hope you are having a lovely time at the retreat. It sounds like you deserve it.

  40. Joan says:

47 blocks completed this month. Sweet Kisses quilt… Very templed to start that! To be honest, light prints are my favorite. Probably why I lean toward scrap quilting… Enjoy retreating and the museum–great place!

  41. Diana S says:

I did pretty well in April. 39 blocks made. Had high hopes for more as the quilt takes 92. But it’s a start!Sometimes when I would rather be sewing other things do get in the way. It’s been 10 years since we gutted the kitchen and laundry room. It was time to go through the cabinets in the laundry room. With that dane and the Kitchen ones well on the way to being done I should get more blocks made this month. Oh I did get 2 small quilts bound and ready for Linus!

  42. Ceil Podzimek says:

I had a total of 38 blocks for April – 10 blocks for my textile group’s Tula Pink 100 blocks quilt-along; 28 blocks and borders for two flannel quilts that I’m making for my brother and sister-in-law, which are ready for quilting now. I did just finish quilting a KU fleece/minky-backed throw for my grandson, who is just finishing his sophomore year at KU.

  43. Marsha P says:

    54 for me.

  44. Deanna says:

April brought 34 blocks. Not great. Not bad. That makes 155 year to date.

  45. A end-of-month surge got me up to 84 blocks for April!

  46. I managed to get 56 blocks done. And I sewed together a bunch of found blocks from tidying up my studio. The tidying was counterproductive though, I fear I made more of a mess than a tidy. I got 15 Ruby Hexies done and sewn together just in time to bring to the Celebration retreat. So glad I did as I got a second place for Viewers Choice. Did both April and May exchange blocks for the guild (6 Floral Exchange and 6 Fantasy Exchange) Some Reproduction 9 Patches and a few Scrap Blocks to go with the ones I have that came from the Wedding Dress Blue blog of at least two years ago. It doesn’t look like May is going to be very productive as we have lots of time planned with outside activities. Love retreats. Piece.

  47. Marlene Clausen says:

67 blocks for April. Not much in the way of piecing. April was more of finishing than starting month. Finished a BOM, now to quilt and bind it. Bound a large quilt I got back from a long armer that I made earlier this year. Finished quilting and binding a sew-along that ran through February and March. May won’t be much better for new piecing; but, I am finishing up a lot of “almost there” pieces and small UFO’s.

  48. Susan s. says:

I found a small bag labelled ‘scraps too small to keep’ . i thought they were worth the same price per meter as a length of fabric so set out to use them. I ended up sewing scrappy blocks, Duckworth inpired. i made 60 of them. will need to make 4 more next month. i also made a bunch of flannel pee pads for our 17 year old dog. all in all a productive month. 60 blocks for me

  49. Debbi says:

Well here I am late reporting again…I had a pretty good month and made 50 blocks. (Thanks to going to retreat). I also got two tops sewn together with backings and binding, now in line for the longarm.

  50. Mary D. says:

I’m finally here! Been so busy at Quilt Camp. Missed seeing you there.
I have 79 to report. Some for the camp mystery and some for another quick quilt.

  51. Kerry says:

Just double checked – kept forgetting what I had written down – it’s 46 in total for April. We had a few nicer days to do outside stuff!

  52. Susanne P. says:

Shelly, it was wonderful to see you IN PERSON at the International Quilt Museum and to enjoy Victoria Findlay Wolfe’s Option Expedition Series. Your quilting is amazing!!! Incredible work by both you and Victoria. What a great partnership.

I love your April blocks! I don’t have a long-arm, but there are definitely times I do not turn on my fancy sewing machine if it is super stormy weather. Handwork is preferable at those moments. Or reading a book! I worked on several UFOs this month, yay! I made 77 blocks and have several projects that are ready to send to my favorite long armer. 😀 Here’s hoping that May is a very productive quilting month for me.

  53. Danice G says:

All of your blocks are super pretty. ‘Love those fabrics too. I actually made 3 blocks in April.

  54. Arlyn Parker says:

I am late to the party this month.
I did more assembly and quilting than piecing, so only 47 blocks-4 for a baby quilt and 40 for a mystery quilt.

  55. Beverly Hovis says:

    7 for April!
    I’m slow reporting again.
    I’m still doing appliqué.

  56. Christopher Thomas says:

It has been one crazy month so my total for the month of April it’s 792 I still got quite a few blocks done but i wanted to hit the 1000 mark but that did not happen happy quilting everyone

  57. cathy k says:

I did 51 blocks for April. It was a busy month

  58. ELIZABETH C CUNNINGHAM says:
