April 350 Blocks Report

Posted on April 30, 2023 by prairiemoonquilts in 350 Blocks Project

Well, how did your April go? Mine went fast!

I worked my tail off, but don’t feel like I got near enough done! I ended up with 34 blocks this month, just over the goal. I was working more toward finishing things I have started, which does not necessarily lend itself to more block making. At some point, I always say, we have to stop making blocks and turn the ones we’ve made into actual quilts!

Most of the blocks I made I can’t show you until later on. But I did make one more block for my Mad Dash quilt:

And one more Maple Leaf block:

Some of the rest are for mystery quilts that I can’t reveal the mystery for just yet! And 20 of them were for the Round Robin project that my friend, Rose Marie, and I are working on, and I’m not gonna show you those until she has seen them first. But that will be soon, because I’m just about finished and will be shipping it off to her this week!

Now it’s your turn! How did you do? I hope you were all more productive than I was.

I have the Project page updated, and our new goal for May is another 31 blocks, for a year-to-date total of 134.

The prize winner for March is Ginabeth! She’s up to 329 blocks already — so close to 350.

I’m looking forward to your comments and numbers, as always. You all inspire me with what you manage to get done and I love hearing what you’re working on. Have a wonderful stitchy month of May!

I have 55 blocks for April. I joined the Alison Glass Trinket SAL. I have enjoyed her small blocks in years past. I thought maybe it would get my mojo going again. Well, I know for now, I am done with small! I completed 10 thought I would do another 10 in scraps. 20 in and I wanted to be done already. The other 5 blocks were re -do’s, with hopefully better fabric color choices! May I am going big!

  2. Sally H says:

Only 24 blocks for April – 6 finished placemats for Meals on Wheels.

  3. Amanda M. says:

I got 67 blocks made!! I’m still creating blocks using your Strippers Delight 1 & 2. I’m trying to get my smaller scraps worked up. I seem to have a lot of both 1.5″ and 2.5″ wide stuff. I need to do 3 more blocks and then I’ll have another String quilt done! I also need to make more Leaf blocks and some more tiny Churn Dash blocks; too many ideas, not enough time!

  4. 126. my sewing machine is smoking

  5. I only completed 19 blocks. I, too, have been trying to finish some of my starts.

  6. Carissa says:

I finished by big project, a hand appliqued quilt for my mom’s 70th birthday, so I am thrilled about that. I also managed 67 blocks towards a couple of other quilts. All in all, I’m happy with my productivity this month. I hope that you are closer to some finishes as well!

  7. Wow that mad dash is amazing! Courageous, too. =) I thought I must be reporting incorrectly, when I looked at totals earlier this week. I didn’t have it in my link on the sidebar.

Here’s April’s link that shows a correct total of 208 blocks, so I must have forgotten to send March’s total to you, too.

  8. Wendy says:

I managed to eke out 35 this month. I really need to amp up my quilting, I guess! Not sure what I’m doing lately rather than quilting (I’d like to say finishing quilts, but nope!).

  9. Diana. S says:

I managed 36 blocks this month. Think I getting back to sewing more now! Finished a baby quilt a friend asked me to make. I rarely make quilts that people ask for but she’s a special friend. She was one of my Dad’s care givers. They had a special bond and we have stayed in touch. Also did a jelly roll star quilt for a March QAL. Yes finished a month later but done!

  10. Ioleen says:

April was a bad month for me so I only got 25 blocks made. My sewing mojo went on vacation!

  11. Ginabeth says:

I had 95 for this month. Made 2 high school graduation quilts📍

In shock over being to winner again this month. What a happy day❣️

  12. ChrisGG says:

I got 63 done and was surprised at myslef since I’ve been spending more time outside!

  13. Kathy Parks says:

I finished 58 blocks, quilted and bound 2 table runners, binding on a small wall hanging. I also finished a quilt top but I have a small wave that I need to fix. I feel it was a great month.

  14. Louise says:

April was a great month for me. I never count my blocks until I finish the quilt top. So, I got busy and finished making blocks for three UFOs along with making two more tops from start to finish this month. I made 357 blocks this month. No, that isn’t a typo. 357 blocks! Of course, I had an advantage. I spent ten days taking care of grandkids at their home out of state. I took my machine with me and sewed all day while they were at school. I don’t expect to ever see another month with that many blocks. 😋

  15. Barbara B says:

Zero for April. I have injured a tendon in my right hand and am in a brace.

  16. Fran says:

Love your Maple Leaf block! I have started making hand appliqué blocks and borders so I will not have as many blocks as usual. In April, I made only 67 blocks, but I did finish two quilts.

  17. Moira Ten-Hove says:

I’m willing to state that I made 19 blocks this month. I was doing so well until I realized I needed to get back to the longarm to finish a wedding quilt by the end of May. Then there is getting the yard sorted for the summer months…..

  18. Paula Mo says:

    I have 55!

  19. Shirley Guier says:

I have 50 for this month. I finished pretty birds and a baby quilt. Now ive got a lot of quilting to do.

  20. Kathi Benchley says:

April was a very productive month for me. I finished 101 blocks! It helped that the weather was crappy and I couldn’t get much yard work done.

  21. 22 blocks for April….I’m way behind my usual totals for the year but always optimistic about a possible catch-up. Love that Mad Dash fabric, Shelly! Reminds me of some prints I used in a scrappy QAL years ago.

  22. Kerry says:

I’ve been making paper piecing strings and then trimming to three and a half inch squares – using a larger page and cut into four pieces. I’m not fond of doing them, but I like the little squares when they are trimmed. Lost count of how many – I’m racing through the scraps!

  23. Dianne D says:

38 for me in April! Not speedy, but plugging right along. Did manage a couple of finishes! Yea!

  24. Marcia in TX says:

    0 for April. OOPS

  25. Rose Marie Smith says:

I did 106 this month. I love to make blocks. I also am stitching down a binding and making a couple of baby doll dresses. Isn’t sewing a breeze!!!

  26. Cindy Wienstroer says:

Didn’t make the goal but did 28 disappearing 9 patches for a charity quilt that i have to have done Sunday. Still plugging away on an old UFO. Also need to quilt a full size blue & yellow want to use in May. The list doesn’t seem to get shorter!☹️

  27. Marsha P says:

8 blocks for me. More quilting than piecing. I’m turning my blocks into quilts, just like you said.

  28. Rose P says:

Not sure why I can’t see the comment I posted earlier in the day. So, here I go again. I completed only 19 blocks this month. I have been trying to complete other starts and I took to trips in the motorhome.

    • Rose P says:

Only one in the motorhome and the other was to Paducah for quilt week with 6 of my sewing buddies.

  29. Ginny says:

Total of 23 for April. Not many blocks but totally finished one quilt started in March & quilted a table topper UFO. Almost done with 40table topper I started on Jan. Made 3 more pincushions. Pincushions seem to be winning

  30. Tanya says:

Can’t wait to see your secret sewing! I made two donation quilt tops this month. Bringing my block total to 77 for the month. I will try to get them quilted this month. Happy May day!

  31. I had 189 total for April…5 were 18th & Vine paper pieced and 184 On Point blocks.

  32. Wanda Marvel says:

    16 blocks april

  33. Linda Knight says:

I finally got to sew some and made 159 blocks. I feel so accomplished!

  34. Beverly V says:

I am going to count my 24 appliquéd blocks that I started earlier this year, but they are finished and put together. Still need to embroider the last block for this baby quilt. Working on a scrap quilt, but will wait to count when the quilt top is finished.

  35. Danice says:

That Mad Dash quilt block i8s gorgeous. It looks a lot like the Pantone Color of the Year 2023- Magenta. I actually completed 18 blocks in April.

  36. Angie in SoCal says:

Progress report: Bad news – ER didn’t see everything. I do have a break in my sacrum. Good news: Primary care ordered more imaging and I’m going for a CT scan Tomorrow and then to Orthopedics. Moving very slowly and carefully, I got 8 blocks done
    Yippy!

  37. KT says:

I finished 39 blocks in April, finished one quilt (quilted and bound), made one quilt top, and started something new just for fun–the Tula butterfly quilt! In May I have two quilts that I need to quilt and bind (wedding quilt and baby quilt for my niece). We will also be traveling for my son’s college graduation (yay!), and my daughter is coming home after spending 2 months in Romania for a school project (yay!), so lots of fun family stuff coming up this month.

  38. Joan says:

It’s nice to review which projects I have worked on this month–14 (many very time consuming). Finished the applique blocks for one of them that I had been working on over several years.
This month I completed 33 new blocks–applique slows things down a lot, but gives a realy sense of accomplishment!

  39. Suelynn Williams says:

I made 33. Finally, sunny days are here and the fruit trees are delightful with flowers.

  40. katie z. says:

    136 new blocks for me!

    https://zanasninis.blogspot.com/2023/05/april-block-count.html

I suspect May will be slower, but that’s fine!

  41. Pam Desilets says:

I completed 45 blocks for April.
Happy seeing for May to all!!!

  42. Becky Cogan says:

Well when I looked at my sheet I hadn’t written down anything for April. Been working on several projects but nothing finished to report.

  43. Sharon Gratz says:

32 blocks for April. I surprised myself and have a 45×60 quilt made for our newly born 16th greatgrand baby…..doing some ditch stitching when I can see it. I also started making blocks for St Louis 16 Patch. We find that we might be able to be in Indiana for our daughter’s book launch. So happy for her.

  44. Deanna says:

I don’t think I have ever had two months in a row of the same number of blocks: 66 again. Total of 391 so far this year. I hope to finish the Halfway blocks in May. That would be a 2-year accomplishment.

  45. Debbi says:

Well, only 14 blocks for me but I did quilt and bind an old ufo that was queen size, put two tops together with 144 blocks each, pieced backings, made bindings, quilted pillow shams and worked on borders for my temperature quilt. Like you say the time comes when you have to do the work with the blocks that have been made.

I’m working hard to wrap up recent projects before I start anything new. The problem is the pile that needs to be quilted is getting big and I always seem to avoid the longarm. Out of sight outta mind😊 I’m planning to challenge myself to longarm every day till the end of the month….after I get back from a vacation to CA. I’m learning consistency is key in making progress.

  46. 76 blocks for me. Where did the month go? May is going to fly by even faster. I find myself looking forward to slower times! Wherefore art thou June/July!? (….or September!)

  47. Paula Mu says:

I had 88 blocks this month. Pathways gave me 30, Flowers made 29 and Scrappy Spools resulted in another 25. I had 3 Riley Blake blocks and 1 Sherry McConnell BOM. I kept pretty busy sewing.

  48. Paula Mu says:

I had 88 blocks this month from a variety of projects. Listed them but when I sent it, it did not post. Will try again.

  49. Marilyn Holder says:

Total for April: 22. Too many interruptions…is it possible to spend one day sewing/quilting 8-10 hours straight?

  50. Marlene Clausen says:

0 for April. A very busy sewing month, but nothing new or anything that required blocks. Sewing the last, and largest, lined curtains for den and living room; four line, zippered bags for “my girls” in Texas, and quilted and bound one quilt. Hopefully, May will be see at least a couple of new projects piece with a QOV at the top of the list.

  51. Barb Roberts says:

    Hi Shelly,
I managed 24 blocks this month. Thanks!

  52. Bev C. says:

Well I shocked myself. 305 blocks! I made a “Jack’s Chain” quilt that has 170 three and a half inch nine patches. Always wanted to try this one. All y seams!! Finished that and made and finished another quilt. I’ve been trying to use the fabric that I have, so some blocks end up on the backs of my quilts to make my fabric “grow”. It certainly adds interest. I doubt I’ll ever hit that total again. lol

  53. Ceil Podzimek says:

Only 10 blocks for April for me – 1 applique block for my Green Tea and Sweet Beans Jen Kingwell sew-along and 9 blocks on my guild’s Row x Row. I was lucky to get that done before I finished packing up my sewing room. At least I am finally moved in, but the unpacking is slow and will take a long time. I did manage to get my sewing machine set up in the midst of the chaos, so hopefully I can start sewing again.

  54. I had a big month in April with 268 blocks finished, most of them very easy blocks like 9P and Rail Fence. I also finished two small quilts!

  55. cathy k says:

I got 107 blocks done for the month of April. I started out slow but finished the month strong.

  56. Susan S. says:

despite having my 2 year old granddaughter stay for 2 weeks while her mother went in and out of labour with her baby brother I did manage to sew 40 more random pinwheels and 16 star blocks. so 56 blocks for me, surprisingly!

  57. Clara says:

    Hello, Shelly.
16 blocks for me this April. My attention was spent on quilt tops to the longarmer. One of them was the BOM I led this past year. I’m also trying something new–precut pieces for blocks. A friend recommended them to “fast forward” sewing instead of cutting. So far, so good in my fabric choice.

  58. I was almost afraid to add up my blocks for the month since I didn’t feel as if I did anything!

    January Blocks: 62
    February: 148
    March: 95
    April: 34
    Year-to-date: 339
Not too bad and this month should be better!

  59. Connie S. Wolfe says:

April’s total block completion number is zero. There have been some serious happenings here at Gobbler’s Knob. We had a chimney fire which has prevented me from quilting. However, my machines have been returned after servicing and inspection. My hope is to resume some quilting but that is likely to be in June when repair work has been arranged.

  60. Phillis says:

    401 blocks this month

  61. Raewyn says:

HI , I’m behind in reporting again, but here I am! In March I sewed 18 blocks, and in April the total was 42. Thank you 🙂

  62. Barb Magruder says:

I managed to get 94 blocks in April. The month went by too fast!
