A Trunk Show by Julee Prose

Last night at our guild meeting we were treated to a trunk show by Julee Prose. If you’re familiar with Julee’s work, you know she does some really spectacular hand appliqué, which is right up my alley!

Her trunk show did not disappoint! I asked her permission to post a few pictures of some of the quilts she showed us. This is not all of them, but they’re some of my favorites.

So without further ado, here we go . . .

This is Julee’s version of “Libertyville”, one of the Kansas City Star BOM quilts:

These next four are all from designs from Lisa Bongean of Primitive Gatherings. Lots of wool, flannel, and cotton:

This gorgeous blue creation is from a pattern by Barb Adams and Alma Allen of Blackbird Designs. It just might be my favorite of the entire trunk show, but really — how can you choose?

This one is called “Home Sweet Home”, also by Blackbird Designs:

This one is called “Birds of a Feather”, another Kansas City Star BOM:

This one is from a Kim McLean pattern, and made from Kaffe Fassett fabrics. Julee has named her version “The Bizzy Bird Farm”. And I must also note that this is not only hand-appliqued, but also HAND quilted, as many of Julee’s other quilts are.

This one is Julee’s own design, named “Look What I Did To The Drapes!”

And another one of my favorites, Julee’s Bunny quilt:

And here’s another fabulous appliqué sampler:

If you happen to be going to Quilt Odyssey in Hershey, PA, this weekend, Julee has a quilt hanging there, so look for it, too. She calls it her “Eagle Quilt”, and it is probably even more spectacular than the ones I just showed you.

This isn’t all the quilts she showed us, and I was seriously blown away. Each quilt by itself is fabulous, but taken as a whole, Julee’s body of work is so amazing. I’m struggling to understand how she does so much appliqué so fast, AND all that hand quilting!!! (Makes me feel like a slacker!)

I hope you enjoyed this little sneak peek. I’m all inspired to go dig out some appliqué and see what I can get done!

I saw Julee’s quilt at Quilt Odyssey, and I am not kidding when I say that it was the most frequently mentioned quilt when I asked people on the bus what their favorite quilt was. It really is beautiful. Julee is such a talented artist!
