Happy New Year to me!
My Cowboy went out at chore time last night, and discovered that Blossom had twins during the afternoon!
Blossom is my best nanny goat, the best mother, and never needs help, and prefers to be left alone, so it’s probably good I didn’t know she was having them so I didn’t hover.
We turned Wyatt in with the nannies on November 1st, so we would have April babies, but back in the summer, he broke into the nanny pen a couple different times, and I guess he had just enough time to do the deed with Blossom. She had been getting larger, and I had decided I needed to keep an eye on her, so I wasn’t hugely surprised, but didn’t think yesterday would be the day! January 1 babies — so precious!
In keeping with my attempts to always name Blossom’s offspring after flowers, we came up with the name Chryssy for the girl (after Chrysanthemum), and Jack for the boy (after Jack-in-the-Pulpit). Chryssy is the one on the left in the photo. They’re both super healthy and doing great! Yay, Blossom!
And it’s good they’re twins, so they’ll have each other to play with, because all the other babies are hopefully a long way from being here yet. I don’t like having babies in the winter because of the weather, but today was thankfully in the 50s, and we’re having another small warmer streak, so they should have a good head start before it gets bad again. Whew!
And let’s hope Wyatt didn’t get to any of the other nannies during his break-ins! We want April babies!
Good for Blossom!!!! A good nanny to take care of everything herself and giving you a surprise to start your New Year with a huge smile. She put a smile on my face, too. 🙂 Baby goats are so cute to watch.
Congratulations on the new additions!
Wonderful news!
Already started my 2020 block count!
That wascally Wyatt 🙂 Cute little babes, though! Glad you are having mild weather for them too!
Didn’t you explain to Wyatt, that be fruitful and multiple was on your schedule not his! What a randy goat he is!
Awwww, they are so cute. Great start to the new year celebration. Will you take them in if it gets to freezing?
So cute!
Prescious babies with great names to welcome the New Year!
Okay, these baby goats sure can entice you in for a bit of snuggling and care. Gotta get a few more blossom names ready for the next babies. I love doing that part.
Baby Kids!!What a great surprise for sure…Our ram got impatient last fall and lambs are due a bit early here, too. But, babies on the ranch are always a happy blessing–as soon as they are well on their feet. Isn’t it something how resiliant they are? Great HAPPY NEW YEAR to you and your Cowboy.
So sweet, pretty little kids.
This is a riot! I love it. Yes, to April babies. LOL!
They are adorable. Congrats on healthy, complication free births. Love their names 💗💗💗
It’s awesome every time, but surprise babies on New Years? Priceless! Congratulations Ms. Blossom. Well done!
how sweet
How cute!
Baby goats are the cutest and most loving animals. My favorite stage is when they do nothing but hop everywhere they go! Worked on a goat farm during birthing season. My main job was just loving those babies and when weaning feeding lots of hungry tummys. Hardest job was caring for those born floppy and/or with difficulties. Lost two of them in my arms, which I guess isn’t bad considering that year over 100 were born in March and April.
They are both adorable. 😀
Awww. They’re so cute. Mom will take care of them.
Congrats on the addition to your growing flock.
That surprised me – flock. But herd is more common.
They are so cute! I had been wondering if you had any new babies!
Such adorable new babies! We had a bull get in with some beef-stock heifers once, so we had a few that ended up pregnant. My dad was NOT happy! Haha
Baby arrivals on a spread out basis just allows for individual loving instead of loving enmass! Lots of straw in the pen and Mama Blossom, they will be cozy even when it gets colder. Spring was always so busy on the farm, there was never enough time to just enjoy some of the smaller pleasures. You received a very sweet New Year gift!
