Some Recent Finishes

Posted on March 1, 2022 by prairiemoonquilts in Quilts

I was planning to write a post about things I’ve been working on, then I realized that there are so many things, the post would be way too long, so I’m splitting this up into three separate posts: things I’ve finished, things I’m working on, and new things I’ve started this year (yep, way too many already)!

So here are a few things I’ve finished lately. First, a couple I finished late last year that I never got posted.

This is the wall quilt version of the Vintage Christmas Ornaments Quilt-Along that has been drug out forever over on the Hazel’s Diary blog. We’ve finished this version, and I’m trying to wrap up the other two options this spring.

I also needed something quick to load on the frame in between larger quilts, so I quick quilted up this Plum Sweet Table Runner late last year. I made this from leftovers from my Brunswick Sampler quilt:

So far this year, I finished three charity baby quilts that were donated, and I completely forgot to take photos of them. They were all identical, flannel patchwork with brushed homespun on the back, nice and soft and cuddly for some lucky babies.

Then when I needed another quickie for the frame, I quilted up this Blush table runner, also made from leftovers from another larger quilt:

The first large quilt I quilted for myself this year was this Tuesday Afternoons quilt, which I showed you more of HERE, if you’re interested in more photos and the details about it.

I also finished three Honor Flight quilts that I will show you in a future post real soon. And altho it’s not a quilt, I finished up my 100 Days of Hand Embroidery stitchery project, which I will also show you more of in a future post.

Yet another quickie little table mat, I quilted up this cutie that I once again made from leftovers from another project. I couldn’t bring myself to throw away those triangle trimmings, so here it is!

I’ve also finished a really epic quilt (finally) that I will show you in a day or two. I just need to get some photos, and need to wait for My Cowboy’s help (since my own arms don’t work). But stay tuned for that. I’m really excited about it, and can’t wait for you to see it. I got pestered so much to write the pattern for this one, that I gave in and did it, so there will be a pattern release along with it!

So I hope you’re inspired to finish up some little projects of your own. I still have an entire pile of projects on my cutting table that need binding, so I’ll have to do another post of finishes soon (but that sure feels good) — I hope my list continues to get smaller.

You would think I wouldn’t have any scraps left, since I’m putting them into other projects, but such is NOT the case at all. I have several scrap quilts in the works, some of which I started recently, so you’ll see those in a future post as well.

At the beginning of this year, I had 72 quilt tops in my to-be-quilted pile (of all sizes). I’m down to 61 right now, and hoping to make an even bigger dent in that number throughout the year. I’m choosing a lot of the smaller ones to do first, since that’s basically all I have time to squeeze in between customer quilts, but they also go so quickly that I can make the numbers go down faster that way!

How many projects have you finished so far this year?

Love the Tuesday Afternoons quilt – the fabrics are so pretty. All of them are super, but that is my favourite!
Builders still not done and I can’t even reach my fabrics now as the kitchen stuff is piled behind the door! Beginning to tear my hair out now! Nope, changed my mind, that hurts – whispering curses instead. 😉 Happy sewing everyone.

The Christmas ornaments are so pretty. You are making such good use of your leftovers. I really like that mini triangles quilt. The green and purple make a fabulous color combination.

You have done a great job getting your projects completed. So far this year I have completed 6 quilts. My goal is 3 per month. I between I am piecing blocks from my scraps. I think the scraps multiply while I sleep.

Speaking of scraps and small projects check out https://I foundaquiltedheart.com
Very inspirational and some of the “stories” about how meaningful they were to some people is amazing. I’ve stitched up a bunch so far and am looking forward to hiding them as weather warms up.

Wow! That’s some great progress and beautiful work! I agree with Randy … no wonder your elbow hurts.
And with Phillis too … I’m quite sure you are right … scraps must multiply while we sleep😉
51 blocks for me this month. Happy sewing!

    My 2022 progress:
    9 UFOs finished
    2 New Starts finished

    2 UFOs are now flimsies
5 New Starts are now flimsies

1 UFO has 4 borders planned and the pinwheel on point have their triangles attached-ready to assemble.

    2 New Starts are halfway

I am very happy with my progress in just 2 months!

I broke the bobbin hook on my LA last Friday, service call yesterday and part is ordered. Approx 1 week for it to arrive and then I can get going on quilting all those finished flimsies I’ve created this last month 🙂

I have finished 3 quilts so far this year. 2 from scratch and 1 UFO. All needed to be done by end of February. Which I did❣️

I had 32 blocks this month. Thought I was short but surprised myself.

Thanks for keep us going and loved all your finishes.

Everything is so pretty! Very impressive on your to be quilted pile! Congratulations!

  11. Sandi says:

Congrats on reducing your to be quilted pile! Your quilt and table runners are beautiful colors. I finished a table runner and a lap quilt and quilted and bound two chariity quilts so far this year.

  12. Moira says:

I have taken a different approach to getting my to-be-quilted pile down. I donated 4 tops and their backing to my guild’s Quiltathon. They were tops from QALs or classes that I enjoyed making but hadn’t any purpose beyond that.

This way they’ll get finished and enjoyed and I can get on with finishing the ones I can used/gift.

You accomplish more with ‘injuries’ than l do without any .. lol … Very nice finishes! Only 62 blocks for Feb. l’ve got a lot of starts, but no finishes … 🙂

  14. Becky Cogan says:

I had 58 blocks for February. Hope before long you’ll be able to use both arms however you want

Are your patterns for the quilt alongs going to be available forever? I have just fallen in love with the ornaments—-Better late than never, Right? I promised myself I would work on “Good plans from the past” this year and not start anything new—Well, except for the necktie project of Grampa’s Ties. I think starting on either an embroidery or appliqué project that everyone else is finishing up qualifies as a “Good Pattern from the Past.” Besides this is the messy side of spring here and an inside project is just what I need.

  16. Darlene says:

Shelly, you have been quite busy! The Christmas ornaments are beautiful! I am excited to see the rest of your finishes. I wonder are all the table toppers gifts on hand or do you use them all at your house?
    Have a great day
