350 Blocks Project: The January Report

Posted on February 1, 2013 by prairiemoonquilts in 350 Blocks Project

One month of the 350 Blocks Project: 2013 is already finished. Can you believe it’s February already? I can’t. I wasn’t done with January yet.

So far, I’m managing to do really poorly at my own game, but some of you — some of you are really overachievers! Wow!

We only needed to make 17 blocks in January, and some of you are past even what we’ll need to make for February — maybe even March! Are you prepping for having an off month later or something?

I think I’ve had my off month right out of the gate. I only made 4 blocks in January. I didn’t even find time to sit down and make some easy 9-patches to catch up. Here’s what I got done . . .

My guild block to hand in at the February guild meeting:GuildBlock

Two half-square triangle blocks for my HST quilt (out of the leftovers from the above block):twoHSTs

And the quilt top for the quilt I showed yesterday, Peace, Love, and Lotsa Orange. It was just one big block, so . . . all that work, and it only counts as one block still! But it’s a cool block. (If you want a chance at the pattern, go read yesterday’s post and get in on the give-away before it ends.)Peacetop

Anyway, that’s what I got done. Now . . . all you participants need to let me know your final January totals by Monday, February 4. You can leave a comment on this post, and if you write your own post about it, be sure and leave us a link. You can also email me your total, or use the contact form HERE. But you need to give me your updated total, and let me know you’re participating, so you can get in on the drawing.

On Monday, I’ll draw one random winner from everyone who met the goal of at least 17 blocks, and one random winner from all the participants in general (excluding myself, of course). Winner of what, you ask? Well, I’m not tellin’ . . . but I’m sure I can come up with something suitable out of the inventory closet.

I’ve updated the 350 Blocks Project page with the goals for February, so head over and check it out. You can see what everyone else got done, and get inspired to get stitchin’! Me, I’m going to an all-day quilting party tomorrow, so I hope to get caught up. We’ll see . . .

I can’t believe that February is here either… I also can’t believe that I actually made 32 blocks this month… I have been working a a scrappy quilt that really helped with all the blocks. Now I just need to put them all together and get the quilt quilted.

Somehow that entire quilt top should count as more than one block…doesn’t seem quite right. But, you are the boss and we will follow your “orders.” 🙂

I completed a total of 28 blocks for January. You can read about it here: http://weddingdressblue.wordpress.com/2013/02/01/january-block-report/

Thanks for sponsoring this helpful project.

I am working on Bonnie Hunter’s mystery quilt, Easy Street. Since she gave us the “reveal” on New Years Eve and I had all the parts done, but none of the blocks, I can just count what I’ve got done on the quilt. I am counting the setting triangles and the corners because they have lots of piecing to blend in with the block patterns (side triangles = 9 units + setting triangles and corners = 4 units + side triangles). As of last night I had 33 blocks done for January! I only have 8 more to do to finish the top. I also made two snowball blocks for a group quilt I’m working on, so my January block total is 35!

I think that your Peace top should count for more.

I wasn’t sure if this is where to report January totals or not, but here goes anyway. You have to hit me over the head hard with something so I know what’s going on. =) I completed 42 blocks, which amazed me!

I am embarrassed to say that I only made 4 blocks in January 🙁 But, one was the Peace quilt, which took me a little time 😉 I hope to triple the number over the weekend.

  6. I didn’t get any more blocks done this month. 🙂 But I just finished a purse my mom asked me to make. And that took three whole days to make. I love your first block there (and of course your quilt). Super cute!

I completed 25 this month, and was looking forward to starting on February’s total today when my machine broke down 🙁 I’ll have to see if I can get it back in time to make some progress! At least I will have plenty of time to organize my scraps – no excuses!! I love your blocks, and definitely think that the peace quilt should count as more than one – it’s very cute.

  8. Bobbi says:

When you just count the peace quilt as one block, it makes me wonder if you would count a lone star as one block, too. I may have to cry if that’s the case…

I finished 40 blocks in January. You can read about it here:
    http://amidthismoment.wordpress.com/2013/02/03/350-block-challenge/

  9. My total for January was 29. I had seven done when I heard about your post and joined in so maybe that counts as 22? Either way, I’m enjoying this!

  10. Rose Marie says:

Since disallowed all those hst’s that I did for an Edyta Sitar project, will you allow me to count all the flying geese that I made for the sashings on the Across the Wide Missouri quilt??

If so, I will count and submit those in addition to what I posted previously.

  11. Rose Marie says:

i’m such a whiner that Shelly is going to let me count anything I want to count. And to think. She has been putting up with this for more than 15 years.

Sorry lady’s I have no pict’s at this time, but have been doing a lot of quilting. So far this month I have quilted 5 charity quilt tops for our women’s shelter, and another 4 for the childern’s shelter. I have made blocks using the ” Disappearing 9 patch” for 4 bed size quilts. I use 6 1/2 cut sq’s for these blocks and they make a large quilt very fast! So 12 blocks to a quilt with 6 inch borders, makes a very nice quilt, then I quilt them. these will be going to the women’s shelter. well this is all for this time. So HAPPY QUILTING, veryone , may God bless your day!!

  13. I completed piecing my Strippers Delight quilt. It ended up being 90 inches square, with 63 blocks set on point. I think I made half of these since I started the challenge. – 30 blocks

I made all 81 blocks of my Triple Irish Chain. Yay!

So I have 111 blocks to report, fearless leader Shelly!!

  14. I’ve got my February totals (52 blocks) but I’m not sure where to post them? Thanks!
