350 Blocks Project, 2024 Wrap-Up

Posted on January 8, 2025 by prairiemoonquilts in 350 Blocks Project

Well, this is it! The final wrap-up report for the 350 Blocks Project. Kinda sad, but I’m happy to know that a lot of you are still planning to count your blocks so you can keep track of your progress (more on that below).

The 350 Blocks Project has run for 13 years! It was a good run. We sure made a lot of blocks over the years. I kept a personal running tally from year to year, and during this time, I ended up with 9105 blocks! If any of you kept a running annual total, chime in in the comments with how many you did over the years — it’ll be fun to see!

Are you ready to see what our year-end statistics are! I love this part:

2024 statistics:

  • • We had 78 participants sign up.
  • • Of those 78, we had 74 reporting participants.
  • • Of those 74 reporting participants, 59 were considered active participants, by reporting in at least 6 times during the year.
  • 43 participants made it past the 350 mark!
  • • There were 12 of you that made it past 1000!
  • • And . . . three of you made over 2000 blocks — amazing!
  • • The greatest number of blocks made by one participant was once again Christopher, with 8319 blocks! He was aiming for 10,000, and he got sooo close!
  • Pam D. came in second with 2605.
  • • And Meloney is third this time, with a total of 2194.
  • • The average number of blocks made by our group each month was 4132.
  • • The total number of blocks made in 2024 by our entire group was 49,592. So many blocks! So close to 50,000!

Also, here are a few statistics from all the years in total:

  • • The average number of active participants over all the years was 65, altho many years we had over 80.
  • • The greatest number of blocks made by a participant was Christopher, just this year, with 8319 blocks!
  • • The average number of blocks made each year by our group was 38,541!
  • • And the total number of blocks we made over the course of 13 years as a group was . . . drum roll, please . . .

501,028

Can you believe we made over 500,000 quilt blocks??? Please take a moment to realize how many quilts those made! We are a fantastic group!

Before I announce the prize winners, I got a bit to say . . .

I cannot even begin to express how much I appreciate all of you for participating and playing along all these years. Some of you for only one or two years, some of you have been along for the entire ride, but I appreciate each and every one of you for taking the time to track your blocks, read the report, leave comments, and report in. No words can express my thanks to you, my readers.

I love the way you have encouraged each other, given suggestions, talked about what you’re working on, and let us all in on little pieces of what’s going on in your lives. I feel like you are all my friends, even tho I’ve never met most of you in person. I will miss the monthly reports, but I am hoping that you will all stick around for some future fun stuff I’m working on.

I also want to encourage you to keep tracking your blocks. Just because I’m not posting a report each month, doesn’t mean you can’t still do the tracking and pat yourself on the back for all that you get done over the course of a year. And here’s the tracker file for you to download, so you can still do it: 350BlockTracker

I’ll still be here blogging, and I have lots of plans for fun things we can do together, so please keep checking in. I haven’t posted a tutorial in quite a while, but I have couple up my sleeve. We’ll be having a few celebrations and give-aways, and I’ll be keeping you posted on my project progress, and I hope you’ll still share what you’re all working on. And a couple other ideas are percolating as well. I want to continue to inspire you, help you, and support you in your quilting journey. And it needs to have a lot of fun sprinkled in, right?

So now . . . it’s time to announce this year’s prizes . . .

Our December monthly prize winner is Marilyn H. She ended up with a total of 255 blocks this year!

For the Project as a whole, there’s a Grand Prize, and three other prizes. I’m doing gift certificates again, so the winners can get exactly what they want or need.

The Grand Prize is a $50 gift certificate, and the other three are $25 each.

The Grand Prize winner is drawn from among all the participants who made it past the 350 blocks goal. The other prize winners are drawn at random from among all the active participants, regardless of how many blocks you made, and it also doesn’t matter if you’ve already won a monthly prize — your name gets thrown back in for these prizes. The only rule is that you must have reported in at least 6 times throughout the year to be considered an active participant, even if you reported in late, and even if you reported a ZERO for the month.

So here we go . . . The Grand Prize winner is:

Deanna (564 blocks) This honestly makes my heart so happy because I think Deanna has been along for the entire 350 Blocks run, so this is well-deserved! Thanks, Deanna!

The other three prize winners, by random drawing, and in no particular order, are:

Danice (45 blocks)

Bev H. (109 blocks)

Stephanie (834 blocks)

Congratulations to all the winners, and thanks again to everyone for playing along!

Congratulations to everyone who participated and especially the prize winners!

Thanks for offering up the tracker, Shelly. I am recruiting members of my guild to join me in the fun. Not sure if I’ll offer prizes but gift certificates to an upcoming guild yard sale have been suggested 😂

  2. Pam Desilets says:

Congratulations to all and a great big shot out to the winners.
Please include me for 2025. I love keeping count of blocks. I have so many tops to be quilted. I quilted and finished 20 quilt for Christmas. Happy New Year to everyone and happy sewing!

That’s an amazing number of blocks! Well done everyone as that is a lot of sewing and congratulations to the winners!
I now take a tally as I go, I’m not a fast piecer, but this is fun to see how I do over the year. I need to see if I can beat my total from last year now.
    Thanks Shelly

Thank You Thank You Thank you📍
Even though I did not find you in the beginning I loved keeping count. I going to try to get my Retreat friends to keep a count on Retreat starting Sunday. That should hook them.
I really like your monthly organizer tasks so I’m in for hanging around❣️

I plan on keeping up with the 350 blocks tracking. Just this morning, I printed out my sheets for the next 3 years. I like keeping track, otherwise I had no idea I was creating so many blocks.

I’m with Ciel. I enjoyed tracking because I never realized how many blocks I managed to make in a year. I will continue to track my blocks in a notebook. Can’t wait to see what fun you have for us this year.

Wow, half a million blocks! Well done us.
How exciting to win a prize (I’d forgotten there were prizes).
Best wishes to Shelly and many thanks for all the fun challenges you set for us.

  11. Kathy P says:

Thank you so much for the motivation each month. Half a million blocks is such an astounding amount, I wonder how many quilts were made over the years with all these blocks.

I plan on keeping track as it was fun to know how many blocks I made every month. Some months I did a minimal amount and other months it seems like I couldn’t stop.

Shelly I wish you the best in the future and can’t wait to see what you have planned next.

  12. Carissa says:

  15. Rose P says:

I counted on you to keep the running total. Guess I’m gonna have to do that on my own now. I keep the tally sheets under the table of my featherweight so it’s handy. I look forward to your other challenges. Congrats to the winners. We are all winners with those totals.

  16. Angie in SoCal says:

Thank you, Shelly. This was fun and it kept me motivated to make some blocks. I’m going to keep on tracking my blocks made each month. It was great reading what everyone was doing. Again, Thank you!

  17. Diana S says:

Well done everyone! It was fun keeping track of mine and also seeing how everyone else was doing. And thanks Shelley keeping us inspired by showing us your blocks each month. Will miss this but totally understand- it’s time to move on to other things. Will be interesting to see what you come up with now. Thanks again for some fun years!

I know I’m late in posting. Was taken by ambulance to hospital Dec 27th and have not been home since. I’m well enough that I’m allowed to go home tomorrow. I do not know about my sewing/quilting future but hope to be able to at least do some small projects. If it helps with the numbers, I did 11 blocks and a lot of pillowcases for Christmas. I plan to hang around and see what’s on the horizon. 🙂
