350 Blocks Project, 2023 Wrap-Up

Posted on January 13, 2024 by prairiemoonquilts in 350 Blocks Project

Well, we made it to the end of our 12th year of the 350 Blocks Project!

The Project Page is updated with our final totals. It’ll be up for a few more days, so you can check it out if you want to.

And now we’ve arrived at my favorite part . . . the year-end statistics!

2023 statistics:

  • • We had 94 participants sign up.
  • • Of those 94, we had 85 reporting participants.
  • • Of those 85 reporting participants, 63 were considered active participants, by reporting in at least 6 times during the year.
  • • Of those 63 active participants, 53 made it past the 350 mark!
  • •There were 10 of you that made it past 1000!
  • • And . . . two of you made over 2000 blocks — amazing!
  • • The greatest number of blocks made by one participant was once again Phillis, with 2324 blocks!
  • • Beverly C. came in second with 2011.
  • • And Cheree is third this time, with a total of 1470.
  • • The average number of blocks made by our group each month was 3757.
  • • The total number of blocks made in 2023 by our entire group was 45,088. Wow! We’re down in numbers from previous years, but that’s still a lot of blocks!

Once again, I’ve posted an infographic on the Project Page, so you can see the year-by-year comparisons.

We ARE doing this again for 2024, and I hope you’ll all join me. I will tell you that this is the last year I’m hosting the 350 Blocks Project because I’m nearing retirement, and as you know, I’m trying to downsize everything, and have a lot less on my plate going forward. But hopefully, we’ll have a great block making year this year, and go out with a bang! So tell your friends, so they can join, too!

Before we kick off the 2024 350 Blocks Project next Tuesday (the 16th), it’s time to announce this year’s prizes . . .

Our December monthly prize winner is Wendy B. She ended up with a total of 501 blocks this year!

For the Project as a whole, there’s a Grand Prize, and three other prizes. I’m doing gift certificates again, so the winners can get exactly what they want or need.

The Grand Prize is a $50 gift certificate, and the other three are $25 each.

The Grand Prize winner is drawn from among all the participants who made it past the 350 blocks goal. The other prize winners are drawn at random from among all the active participants, regardless of how many blocks you made, and it also doesn’t matter if you’ve already won a monthly prize — your name gets thrown back in for these prizes. The only rule is that you must have reported in at least 6 times throughout the year to be considered an active participant, even if you reported in late, and even if you reported a ZERO for the month.

So here we go . . . The Grand Prize winner is:

Pam D. (519 blocks)

The other three prize winners, by random drawing, and in no particular order, are:

Kathy P. (464 blocks)

Marilyn H. (249 blocks)

Fran (905 blocks)

Congratulations to all the winners, and as always, thank you ALL so very much for joining in and playing along with the Project this year. I appreciate all of you taking the time and making the effort to participate.

We’ll kick off the 2024 350 Blocks Project next Tuesday, the 16th. Again, no big changes to the rules, and it’ll still be easy, free, and have prizes! So be sure and check back in on the 16th to get signed up. Remember, this is gonna be our last one — let’s make it a big year!

Congrats to the winners! I’ve started sewing a little every day as my arm is getting back to normal. Still a little pain but getting better. Hope to make more blocks this year. Wishing nothing but good things to all 😊😊

    Thanks, Shelly.

I will most certainly sign up for next year although I doubt I’ll manage to better my total for this year. It has been inspirational to keep a tally month by month.

Well done everyone! That is absolutely amazing progress! I’ve now joined some local ladies that meet up twice a month – I took my hand crank because lack of electricity points, and between the chatting I made two 9 patches and would have finished a third if a birthday cake hadn’t been produced! LOL! So I should get at least 4 patches done each month now!

Thank you for doing this again.
Congratulations to all the winners. It has been fun to tally all my blocks for the last few years.
I printed new sheets to tally on so I’m ready for 2024. It does keep you making blocks.
Hopefully you can get your downsizing done and move in soon.

Thank you for the honor. It is such a great push to keep me on my toes. Glad you are doing the 350 blocks project again. And, so many others are participating to keep pushing ourselves to new heights! Finish those projects and begin new ones to keep our brains sharp!!

Thank you for hosting and will definitely join you for your last year of the Block challenge! I am surprised I made as many (few) as I did this year. I expected it would be a lot less. My sewing is settling down to a more normal pace after a year and a half of the chaos that is created by selling and buying houses. Also, I was able to get a lot of tops quilted so there will be more new starts. . . and blocks! . . . this year.

  13. Ginny says:

    Job well done by all.
I’ll be in for next year. Praying all goes with your plans for less on your plater & retirement. I think I am getting more quilting done now than ever.
My plan for this year is push working on started tops & ones already bought & planned ( if I can stay away from one I now want to do. ). Of course gifts always come up like 2 baby quilts I want to do

  14. I’m looking forward to participating this year. Thanks for the opportunity!

  15. Susan W says:

Congratulations to everyone for all their work! I didn’t participate in 2023, but I have cheered everyone on, and I have been sewing. I am looking forward to joining in this coming year! Onward!

  16. Wendy says:

So fun to read the stats of the year – wowza, there are some very prolific block makers in our group! Thanks for doing this one more year, Shelly! I’m in – maybe I can up my numbers this year!
