2013 Final Countdown Wrap-up

Posted on January 5, 2014 by prairiemoonquilts in The Final Countdown

Wow! You all can make some lists! I’m impressed (and frankly feel a little lazy, looking back at my own)!

I only just today got the binding finished on the baby quilt:Blushbaby

This is a quilt I made a while back, using leftover blocks from the baby quilt I made for our new little niece, who is now 3 years old and not so little any more. I used a Blush jelly roll, by Basic Grey for Moda, and used my own Stripper’s Delight pattern to make the blocks. I had enough blocks for two quilts. You can get the Stripper’s Delight pattern for free HERE on my Free Patterns page.

And my cutting table looks a little better, but I’ve already started two new projects, and finished my first (well, second) project of 2014, so it’s messy again, and I’m not showing it to you. Just take my word for it. But there’s no more spare change or feed coupons on there . . .

And I showed you my list in my original post. I’ll be posting more about the list and some other plans for 2014 in a few days, once I get my act together.

For now, it’s time to announce the winners from all those of you who did the tasks and commented and hopefully are getting your 2014 off to a great start!

So without further delay, the winners are:

Carol Smith

Pam in KC

and

Jenny (jmniffer)

Congratulations, and thanks so much for playing along! We’ll do it all again at the end of 2014, just because I think it’s a lot of fun, and it’s good for me. I hope it helps you, too.

Before I go, I want to ask . . . are you familiar with the practice of “choosing a word” for the year, a word that you can use to motivate or improve yourself? I’m not sure where it originated, but there are a lot of folks out there doing it.

I had almost decided I didn’t want to choose just one word for 2014, but then Victoria offered a challenge over on 15 Minutes Play, so I think I just might choose a word and put it in fabric, and hang it on my wall to inspire me this year. What about you?

Have you chosen a word? If so, leave me a comment and let me know what word you chose. I think hearing all the different words and the reasons for them can only help us all. Have a wonderful 2014!

I like your quilt! Thanks for the free pattern. I haven’t chosen a word. I chose one last year, but the whole concept of word choosing didn’t really fit me. This year, if I chose one, it would probably be “survive” because of things that are going on, and that isn’t as positive as I’d like to be, so I’m not choosing. =)

No, I don’t think I can choose a word. You have already got me going with the list! I also made a list of the things that I could remember finishing this year and there were 11. I may have more that I didn’t remember but I was pretty impressed with myself. I about broke my arm patting myself on the back! Congrats Carol. She was excited!

My unofficial word is UFO. 😉 I want to finish all the projects around here before my daughter comes home. I’ve started making a list but need to finish putting it together. Then I can start crossing things off the list!

  4. Colette says:

My word is grateful. I loved your lists and I actually got one thing organized, my embroidery/cross stitch floss!

  5. Kathy says:

My word for 2014 is TRUST. Explanation is: Everyday I have to trust that God will supply my every need and that He will guide me through all the challenges of that day. Trust. It’s a big word with a lot of meaning. Think about it. We go through each day hardly thinking about anything but what we have to do. Who gives us the means and the talent to do all we do?? Sorry, just my opinion. I know keep it to myself. But you asked.

    • Barb says:

Kathy, I like what you said about “Trust”, both the word and your explanation. Thank you for sharing.

I think my word will be “Downsizing”–no explanation necessary. 🙂

I like being organized. As far as my floss goes I use those pull out draws that the guys use for their screws and stuff. Each draw has the number of the floss on the front. That way when a pattern calls for a certain number you can find it quick. I also keep them in numerical order. Since I’ve been doing this method I always find my floss easy. And I also keep a small pad on top to write the number down when I use it so when I go to the store I can pick one up. Usually I buy 2 of each color when I go and if they have a new one I get 2 of those at the same time. That way I don’t spend a lot of money at a time. I have 3 of those bid draw bins. Need to get another one soon. Harbor Freight here I come. AGAIN!!

Thanks Shelly! I am excited that I am getting a surprise in the mail. I love surprises. I haven’t heard about the one word for inspiration. I will have to think about that for a few minutes. Your challenges were fun! I have got one checked off. I finished my Mystery Quilt~New Years Day 2014. And I have started my Christmas quilt (another thing on my list :)). My sewing room is useable and reasonably organized. Loved the 2013 final countdown.

I don’t do words. Besides the only ones I can think of right now are “cold” and “burr”. I am going to work on the UFOs this year. I have too many. I decided that I am going to finish two before giving myself permission to start a new one. I have already finished three this year and I reasonable expect to finish two more this month. I do not intend to start any new ones yet though. Really trying to make progress.
