16th Annual Final Countdown

Posted on December 28, 2024 by prairiemoonquilts in The Final Countdown

Yes. 16th Annual. And even with a brand new studio, I’m still in dire need of continued organizing!

I have to give myself credit. I did a LOT over the last two years to make some great progress. I downsized a lot, I built some good habits, and I worked hard to not make things worse for myself (aka: exercising willpower).

But even with all that I did, I still wasn’t completely ready to get everything moved over to my new studio. I still have too much stuff! And most of what’s left is stuff I want (or need) to keep, and projects that I still want to finish. Once again, I spent so much time quilting for other people that my own to-be-quilted pile just kept getting bigger. And I still need to find good places to put some things. That’s the point I’m at for the start of this year’s Final Countdown.

So with a fresh new year beginning, I’m ready to whip things into shape to see if I can be even more productive in 2025. How about you?

If you’ve joined me for The Final Countdown before, I’ll be really happy to have you join in again!

If you’re new here, welcome! I hope you’ll join us this time, as we all try to freshen up our sewing spaces for a great start to 2025.

Here’s how it works . . .

  • • Beginning tomorrow, I’ll post a task for us to do each day for three days in a row; a different task each day.
  • • Your job is to do the task, if you so desire (totally optional). If it’s not a task you need to do, then you can pick any task you feel fits your situation better, and do that one instead.
  • • After you’ve done the task, leave a comment on the post that you did it, and how it went for you. If you want to write a blog post of your own and link back to it, that’s great — we all love stories, and photographic evidence! If you’re already so organized that you don’t even need to do the task, you can still leave a comment to be eligible for the prizes.
  • • I’m offering up a prize for each task, so be sure and leave a comment for each task that you complete. You’re only eligible for the prize for that task if you did the task and left your comment (or left a comment that you already had it done or didn’t need to do it). I try to make the prizes something that will help you with organizing, or things that you can use up, so as to not cause you more clutter or disorganization. If you do all three tasks, you’ll have three chances to win. How many you choose to do is completely up to you. Easy!

I’m giving us till January 6th to complete all the tasks, so be sure to leave your comments on the posts for the tasks you accomplish. I’ll post the three winners on the 7th. That should give us time to take a good crack at all three tasks.

So there you have it — simple rules, and prizes!

I’ll post our first task tomorrow, so be sure to check back in. Or if you’re not subscribed already, you can subscribe to the “News From the Ranch” using the form at top right, so you’ll automatically be notified when the tasks are posted.

Are you ready?

I have been anxiously waiting for this!!! I managed to get the last two goal projects completed before the EOY. I have another that I am trying to get done but it’s not crucial. Looking forward to the Final Countdown. Thank you for hosting. Also, the 6th is my birthday so wouldn’t it be great to be a winner!?!

I’m ready! I’m hoping 2025 is a year of organizing for me. I need to make a list of current UFOs and what I need for them to become FOs. I also need to get better with time management.

Boy do I need this. My sewing room is a disaster. I wrap gifts in there, so that added a lot of met. I have removed some, but there is much to go.

I have never done this but I definitely need a little nudge to organize and make the most of 2025

I’m in! I’ve been having the odd bash, but the sewing machine calls. We’ve had 5 days of non-stop fog. At least it isn’t raining, so a little pottering and a little sewing and a ton of sorting out the house ready for the family invasion!

I’m game! My Brother in Law had me take my sister’s (RIP)fabric. Thankfully, she didn’t have the hoard I have! Now what to keep/give away??? More importantly where is it going to go? I found myself wondering why she had so much velvet, not off the bolt but clothes?

I always look forward to your suggestions for end of the year! My sewing room is due for a major sorting/cleaning/tidying so this will give me a great start. Thanks Shelley!

I’m hoping it makes a difference in my studio and life.

I’m in need of a massive overhaul. We moved 5 years ago and I have a good size studio and it’s a mess all the time. I’ve been good this year about finishing up some UFOs but still have many to work on.

I LOVE the final countdown and look forward to it yearly. YAY!

l’m in. I finished up a project just before the holiday so the studio was in pretty good shape until yesterday when I started a new one.

Now the place looks like a bomb just hit it, sigh!

    Send tasks my way, Sarge.

  18. Jocelyn says:

Sounds like fun and productive. I am going to try to keep up this year.

I really need this challenge! I’m newly married and have moved into his house. I have a new clean organized sewing room and am only working on one project there: Bonnie Hunter’s 2024 Mystery Quilt. I’m keeping my old house that is three miles away. It is packed to the gills with sewing, knitting, and crafting stuff. After my husband died in 2016 my whole house became my sewing room. My goal: to keep my new husband’s house neat and to organize my Sewing House that I’m now using for weekly Sew Days and occasional Retreats. I’m all in!

I need this so bad!! However, the Final Countdown always occurs when I have extra kids in the house. They are getting older, so that shouldn’t be an excuse, huh? I really need to get this studio in order! Let’s do this!!
