15 Minutes of Play

I know I’ve mentioned before that my friend, Victoria, has a book out called “15 Minutes of Play”.

Although the book has been out for over a year now, it’s one I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of.bookcover

In fact, I make a point to read it through all over again every once in awhile, especially at the beginning of the year. I think I’ve read it completely through about 4 times now, and it’s inspiring every time. I just read it again this past weekend.zigzags

In the book, Victoria explains her process, the 15 minutes of play concept, how to make “made fabric” to use in your projects, and even gives some block patterns to use your made fabric in.

But the very best part of the book (at least for me) is the 11 challenges offered up to make you work outside your normal comfort zone or way of thinking about quilting. If you’re ever stuck in a quilting rut, trying any one of these challenges would certainly get you unstuck in a hurry!bluered

Some of the quilts from Victoria’s book traveled with the Original Sewing and Quilt Expo this past year, and when I went to the Expo while it was in Overland Park, KS, in November, I got to see the exhibit.

Even though I contributed blocks to several of the quilts in the book, quilted 3 of the quilts of Victoria’s that are in the book, and even have one quilt of mine featured in the book, seeing some of the quilts up close and in person was a wonderful experience.

Furthermore, Victoria did a walking tour of the exhibit during the show, and I went to hear it, and I’m so glad I did. Even though Victoria and I talk all the time, and show each other what we’re working on, and I’ve seen her process in action for myself, going through the tour meant I got to hear and learn things about those quilts and her process that even we have never discussed. It was so inspiring.

So what I’m trying to say is:

If you don’t have this book, you should get it.

If you’ve never been to hear Victoria speak, and you get the chance, take it.

If you’ve never taken a class with Victoria, and you have the opportunity, DO IT!

You will NOT be sorry . . . she’s very inspiring!

And my challenge to you is this:

If you have the book (or get the book), try one or more of those 11 challenges sometime this year.

And for more challenges and inspiration, visit Victoria’s website, 15 Minutes of Play.

You can get signed copies of the book from Victoria herself HERE.

Now go PLAY!

I have the book and LOVE it! She is inspiring. This is a good one for anyone’s personal library. It may be outside of many people’s comfort zones, but it is really cool! So many possibilities….

P.S. I got the idea to buy it from you/your blog. Glad I bought it!

I don’t have the book but am planning on getting it. I have been thinking of doing it as a monthly challenge for myself….

    Thanks for the reminder!

Good idea. But I really think I have a plate full this year. And seeing that I’m getting a lot older I think it’s time I finished what I have started. I did start on my sewing room today. Wore myself out. Will probably take another week to finish. Room is very small and I have a lot. So I think a lot will have to stay packed for a while.
